May I suggest those 60 calorie no sugar pudding packs from jello? I'm totally in love with them because there is no taste difference between that and full-fledged pudding, but its a much better option. I often dip fresh strawberries in them and its just like having regular chocolate dipped strawberries, plus it fills me up so I don't eat a ton of them:) (The dark chocolate is my favorite, but theres milk chocolate, boston creme, and a vanilla/chocolate mix as well) |

Basically, you've said "I know you can't spot reduce, but how can I do it?" - you have answered your own question.
And I agree with the rest of the posters. did you see the pictures of megan fox's 22 inch waist? It looked totally weird and abnormal - and 24 isn't that much different from 22. 27 inches sounds fabulous - perhaps picking a different focus like toning? |

| Maintaining | how do i increase my calorie intake without gaining weight? | Apr 26 2009 03:19 (UTC) |

keep in mind that this early on it's probably due to some water retention (TTOM perhaps?). your muscles will bulk a little over time if you are doing a lot of weight lifting, but in such a short amount of time with such a small increase in calories, it's probably water. Drink some water with lemon (I know it sounds counterproductive), and that will help to flush out your system. That might help in the short term. In the long term, just be patient and don't stress out about the little stuff. If it helps, take pictures of yourself, once a week. Those will tell you (with an unbiased opinion), whether or not you've really gained any significant mass. |

| The Lounge | How do I get new songs on my Ipod without losing my old ones? | Apr 21 2009 20:36 (UTC) |

Ok, so don't freak out. I've done this twice - and you can get your songs off of your iPod. It's a program called Senuti. It's legit - no spyware, and you can get it offline. If you have less than 1000 songs then you can use the trial version and not have to pay anything. It will take you through the steps of getting the songs from your iPod and then onto your iTunes. After that, you will have to reinstall everything on your iPod, but it will be good to go. I'm not sure how it works with playlists. I didn't want to figure it out - so those were lost, but I'm sure there's something. Make sure before you reformat your iPod that everything is on there - and next time, get an external harddrive and back it up on there:) Cheers! |

word! my bday is sunday too - I'm already anticipating a lot of excess drinking and such - so I'm trying to plan in exercise so that I don't feel as bad. For instance, instead of going to the gym, I'm going golfing at the local driving range - something I've wanted to do for some time now. Not saying that it's as good as an hour on the elliptical, but at least it's something right? Just enjoy the weekend and resolve to work extra hard next week:) |

Original Post by pgeorgian: Don't get offended if I say it's a generational thing. I'm not calling anyone old - it's just that the millennial generation seems to be much more receptive to things like Twitter and Facebook and the such. And obviously there are people that cross the gap in both directions, it's not a blanket statement. I equate it to...the Jonas Brothers for instance, I think they are completely for the generation after me. I don't really like their music, and don't really understand the craze about them - but I'm not going to say that the people who listen to them are wasting their time. To each his own.

Original Post by pgeorgian: So I'm emotionally immature because I use twitter? Why is sharing my thoughts with other people narcissistic? There are some times when something is funny to me or I have a particularly thoughtful question, but no one I know is around to discuss it with. Twitter allows me to connect with those people and if they choose to respond - great. If not, fine. The day goes on.
Perhaps it's more constructive to just say - "No I don't use it" instead of "It's about emotional maturity".

Have you ever seen those white foam rollers at your gym? If not, ask a trainer if they have any and see if they will show you how to roll out. My volleyball coach in high school had us roll out after practice - and the first time we did it we just about cried! It hurts alot in the beginning but after a while your muscles will loosen up and it will really decrease how sore you are the day after an intense work out. |

After taking a shower, I must be completely dry before putting on clothes. No hasty toweling and throwing on a shirt, every drop of water must be gone from my body (although my hair can still be wet).
I hate having my TiVo filled up. If I watch a show, it has to be deleted afterward. And I hate having my boyfriend fill it up with pointless shows that he never watches, which then makes my shows delete. Dirty fingernails gross me out. So does acne. And while I do use sponges, I bleach them every week so they don't smell bad:) |

I have lived in Old Navy's Sweetheart Bootcut Jeans for the last two years. I've probably gone through....10 pairs? ( I wear them almost every day so I go through about three pairs every six months) They have just enough stretch to fit but don't look skin tight or awkward. And last time I checked they were on sale for $19.99. |

I know the hockey players at my old university weren't allowed to have sex (solo or otherwise) for a minimum of 4 days before a game. It was so they could build up that testosterone and aggression and take it out on the ice. At least that's what they were told... But I'm pretty sure it didn't have to do with saving calories. |

| The Lounge | Feel like my college career is over... | Apr 01 2009 22:08 (UTC) |

ML, my sister in law went through something similar with her spanish professor (who jsut happened to be the head of the whole department) the semester before she was supposed to graduate. It was the last class she needed to complete her major, and she could not take it with another teacher (she hated this one). The teacher accused her of plagarism and was going to fail her in the class, despite not having ANY proof at all. my SIL fought the school and agreed that since it was her word against the teachers, that she would write a new paper and submit it to a bias free professor from another institution. This is a little ahead of your situation, but don't feel like you have to drop out right away. There are plently of options. I agree with everyone who says that you need to ask your professor for exactly what he is calling plagarism and have him show you what you did wrong. If it's completely accidental (ie: something other than entire paragraphs lifted from another source sans credit), since your a freshman they'll probably let it slide with a warning (might have to rewrite the paper too ). If it turns out that you just end up failing the class, you could also petition the school to retake the class (with another professor if possible) next semester and have them replace the F with whatever grade you would earn.
Don't give up right away. My freshman year was so bad I ended up transferring schools and moving halfway across the country, but I kept on going and am graduating (on time) in just a few weeks. Talk with your academic advisors and ask them what you can do to improve your GPA, and good luck with your professor! Let us know how it turns out...

| Maintaining | how do i increase my calorie intake without gaining weight? | Mar 31 2009 16:56 (UTC) |
19 |
Just follow the simple "calories in, calories out" mantra. If you want to increase your caloric intake without gaining weight, then exercise more. Lets say you want to bring it up by 300 calories, then just make sure you burn 300 more calories during the day. That way your deficit stays the same (or to make sure that you come out even during the day), but you don't gain weight over time.
That being said, you are right to take it slowly. Get used to eating more, and exercising a little more. Over time you can find a balance that is good for you body and mind.
Best of luck! |

Empire waist tops are good, but high-waisted jeans will take care of your problem. They hide the belly bulge and are totally fantastic!
But if all else fails...you could always wear a snuggie!

| Weight Gain | BMI question | Mar 10 2009 12:31 (UTC) |

Because you are so close to the low end of the BMI scale, it very well may be that you can be healthy and still have a BMI of 17. That being said, you should check with your doctor to see what he/she says. Since they have your medical history and know your body type, their verdict is what should guide you in your decision to maintain or gain weight. My guess is that you might have to gain 5-10 lbs to satisfy a more healthy body weight. |

No doubt you're going to get at least three "you can't spot reduce" replies... Which is true, but you can choose which muscles to strengthen, which in turn will help to make your thighs look leaner, or atleast have better definition. I love to use the thigh machines at my gym. Not only do they work all 360 degrees of the upper leg, but it helps to tighten the glutes as well... |

you may want to ask your gym what they allow. I know my gym has a specific "no sandals" rule on the workout floor. If its possible, you could go to target and pick up a $10 pair of sneakers that can be your backup pair incase this happens again! |
