Weight Loss Have u tried Alli supplements? Apr 17 2009

I have been taking Alli for a week now.  Just like michi-mom says, I also use it to supplement my weight loss. If you eat under 5 grams of fat at your meal, then it's not necessary to take a pill.  At breakfast I rarely take one of the pills since I eat fruit and non-fat yoghurt. Your body requires fat, Alli reduces some of the fat you would normally digest, not all of it.

The instuctions are very clear about how many grams of fat you should be eating.  It's when you eat more than 20 grams of fat at one meal that you may have treatment effects.   You take a pill at each meal.

I have taken the pill when I ate 20 grams of fat at a meal and had no problem.  Alli is just a tool to assist you on a low-fat, low calorie plan.  It's not a magic pill and yes, if you're going to eat a high fat meal with 50 grams of fat, you're going to have treatment effects aka crap your pants.

I like it because for me it sets a limit on how many fats I can have.  I am so scared of the treatment effects aka crapping my pants, that I don't eat seconds and really limit the fried foods I eat.  So, for me it's a good thing to take Alli and I am learning how to eat a better balanced diet.

I call these people "toxic people".   My best advice would be to start moving her out of your life and concentrate on improving your own life.  People like this will suck the life out of you.  Get rid of her!!!

I am in love with Thrift Shops!  When my pants started to get baggy I went to a second hand store and found some great wardrobe buys!  Some of the shirts I just found are a name brand and really fit well.

Once I lose all the weight I need to (42 more pounds) I will invest in a nice wardrobe for myself.  But right now I don't have the money and I will be dropping a few more sizes, so thrift and consignment stores are for me!

Good advice from GI Jane.

Make sure you're eating enough protein and getting all your calories in.  The same thing happened to me, I was so exhausted I went home after work and had to lay down, then I found I was not eating enough of the right kinds of foods and only eating about 1200 calories a day. Good luck with stopping smoking!

I think I have been on every diet that's been on the market.  The worst was the grapefuit and egg diet.  All you eat is grapefruit and eggs.  I did lose some pounds but only lasted a few days and I immediately put the pounds back on.

I have tried them all. Fell off the wagon on Weight Watchers because I began obsessing about the points.  I was on Atkins for about 2 years and lost 50 pounds, which I have kept off, but developed a rare Vitamin B7 (Biotin) deficiency from eating high protein levels.  I had a hard time with low carb for the last 6 months because I kept binging on sugar and high carb foods.

Sandlizard, you are so right about not denying yourself comfort foods! I feel so much better knowing that I am not depriving myself of the foods I love.

Yep, you guessed it, my metabolism is totally messed up.  I've been counting calories now for a month and have lost 4 pounds.  I get to eat all my favorite foods, including a piece of cake now and then, as long as I stay within my calorie counts. I am exercising and I feel better physically and mentally than I have in a long time.  I finally feel like I am in control.

I have a friend that sends me stuff like that, most of the time when I read the subject line and it's like this email you received, I delete it before I open it.  I just don't have time for that junk.

I have replied to her that I did not appreciate this kind of email, she didn't write back, but keeps sending this stuff out.

Just delete it and go on.

Weight Loss Why are my mind and my body at a war? Apr 09 2009

It does seem like our minds and bodies are at war!  I had hunger the first few days I began eating low calorie.

I drank water.  Every time I was hungry I drank a bottle of water.  I also munched, and keep in my refrigerator, baby carrots, sliced cucumbers, pickles, cherry tomatoes, apples and pears to eat.

After a while I just didn't notice the hunger.  I think my stomach is shrinking.

You will have to decide what your motivation is.  Mine is fitting into a size 10 pair of jeans I could wear last year.

You can do this!

The Lounge anyone ever stayed at an intown suite??? Apr 09 2009

I have stayed in a couple of them.  No, they don't have a bar. One of them had a mini bar, but the others didn't.   They are very nice, just like an apartment. We've stayed in the one bedroom and two bedroom ones.  The only thing I didn't like was that they arent' very soundproof.  You can hear a lot of noises in the hall, etc.

It was worth the money and very comfortable and clean.  If you look them up on the internet you can email them and ask if they have a bar.

One of the ones I stayed in, there was a restaurant with a bar across the street.  But, you can always buy your wine, beer or liquor and bring it with you.  The suites have ice and glasses.

I've taken them all, speedy ones, Phen-phen, fat burners, appetite reducers, etc., you name it.  Made my wallet thinner, not me.

None of them are for the long term and really don't teach you the proper way to eat.  I've had some friends that have had excellent results with Alli, so I may try that.  They learned how to eat a lot better and had NO side effects.

amethystgirl, according to the phord info, I should be eating about 1550 calories a day, big difference from 1250. Yes, I did put in the original data that I was sedentary.

I don't think I have been eating enough. (That's weird to say out loud.) No wonder I am so darn tired.  I will up my calories  to 1550 and see how I feel.

No, I've never had a problem with depression or tiredness.  I think the depression is just from not having enough to eat.

Thank you both!

I just got my real estate license and was at the first meeting with a new company.  After the meeting there were some drinks and treats for the staff.  I got a diet coke and was drinking it , making small talk with the other new sales staff when one of the older salesmen came over to me and said, "there's another fat girl here that does real well selling houses, you should meet her."    I was stunned.

You may have to visit the product or place website to get the information.  I ate a protein bar that wasn't listed, so I went to their website, wrote down the info then put it in the "add it here" box on the food log.

Focus on getting healthier instead of the weight loss for a few days.  I go through this "Oh, my, I look horrible" thing from time to time, but I just keep plugging away at it.  I didn't get this way over night and it isn't going to come off overnight.

Weight Loss Does dieting make you miserable? Mar 26 2009

Yes, diets make me miserable. I have a history of yo-yo dieting and it has ruined my metabolism.

I don't consider counting calories a diet, probably because there are no foods that are off limits. Mostly I eat healthy, but I do make allowances for foods that aren't so healthy, I just don't eat a lot of them.

I was on a low carb diet for way tooo long and my eyebrows fell out.  (No kidding),  I also lost the hair on my arms and legs, and some on my head. (Nowhere else.)

I went to my doctor and she prescribed OTC Biotin at 2.5 mgs per day.  It seems the high protein diet pulled the Vitamin B7 (Biotin) out of my body. Please note that this is a really rare phenomenom. She also advised me to purchase the Biotin at either GNC or the Vitamin Shoppe, or a health food store because those stores usually have a higher consistency and quality of brands that may be sold at other stores. (I can't verify this information, it's just what she told me, and no, I don't work at either of those places.)

I've been taking the Biotin, things have been corrected, however it has taken about 6 weeks.

My doctor said hair loss is not unusual when you change your diet, it's just a natural cycle and your hair will come back.

You might try getting some Biotin, it's working for me.

I believe the total calorie count at the top of the list is the amount you use.  In low carb plans they deduct the fiber from the total carb count, but not with low calorie.

Today is the end of my first week on a low calorie plan.  I lost 1.8 pounds and feel great.  I have really enjoyed this plan and am amazed at the simplicity of it.  I am enjoying being in the kitchen again and preparing healthy eats.

I took a walk every day this week.  Next week I want to go to Jazzercise and up my calorie burn.

I believe their menu is on line.  They have a lot of healthy choices and they will prepare anything on the menu at your request.

My favorite is the mussels josephine.  I can eat those for a whole meal. Also, it you like fish they do a great job!

Watch out because they serve hot bread and olive oil for an appetizer at your table and it is wonderful.  I have to stop myself after a bite or two.

Weight Loss Nutrisystem? HELP PLEASE! Mar 19 2009

One of my closest friends did Nutrisystem.  It was too expensive for me to try. You receive the frozen foods on the plan then you have to purchase the fresh foods that go along with them. The menu is all planned out for you.

She lost 45 pounds in 6 months, that's about 7.5 pounds a month.

She liked the food and...

Yes, she gained all the weight back after stopping.

They have a good support system in place now.  Actually, I've never heard anything bad about their program except that when it's over, people go back to their old way of eating and regain the weight. Honestly, I've never heard from anyone who left the program and kept the weight off, but I'm sure they're out there.
