| Health & Support | Weird fatigue-do you know what I mean? | Aug 23 2009 16:33 (UTC) |

Have you ever head of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome? (Sometimes also called M.E.) I have had it for 10 years and the main symptom is the kind of fatigue you describe. There is lots of information if you type in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome on Google. There is a charity in the UK called AYME which is for young people but their website has a lot of easy to understand information about the illness - if you click the link below you can read about the symptoms, quotes from people who have it.. etc. hopefully it will help you to get an idea of if you could potentially be suffering. Just go to the website below and then all the links are down the left hand side. |

| Health & Support | irregular periods after amenorrhea | Jul 30 2009 14:35 (UTC) |
|
I'm 18. I admit I don't usually eat much fat at all but I have tried to up my intake in the last few months, just a bit stuck in my ways with my staple foods and such. I did think my periods were becoming more regular in the last 3-4 months or so, but this month I'm really really late again, it's so frustrating. I have recently lost a tiny bit of weight (like 7lbs) because I was ill so I dunno if that has anything to do with it - I didn't think such a small loss would effect me much though. Thanks for the replies though, maybe my body isn't very happy at this weight. |

Your turkey and cheese sandwich is dry, what do you put on it? despite the fact that i don't eat turkey or cheese.. tomato salsa, or ketchup You're being executed, what do you request for a last meal? peanut butter, banana and honey sandwich If you had to eat at one fast food restaurant for breakfast, which would it be? mcdonalds in paris, they sell yogurt and granola-y things and little mini croissants, so cute Your inlaws are coming for dinner, what do you make to impress them? i don't have in-laws! but if michael cera's parents came over (closest things i have to in laws obv) i'd probably make something really basic like chili and rice or something easy. and then a killa dizzzert like.. chocolate cheesecake What food would you be very dissapointed if your grocery store stopped carrying? hummus, peanut butter, carrots, sweet potatoes, soy milk You go grocery shopping, they dont have your brand of peanut butter, would you drive 20 minutes to get it, or buy the unhealthy version (if you eat the natural stuff)? buy the unhealthy version to get me by, and then ask my brother to pick up some PB&CO while he's at work to bring home with him next time he comes.yummy How long does it take you to grocery shop? sooo long i love the supermarket, i go around and look at everything.. me and my mum were once in there for over 2 hours ahahaha Best topping to spread on a bagel? peanut butter and honey, or blueberry jam, or cream cheese and tomato salsa Best thing to put on a pb sandwich (jelly, banana, honey, etc)? honey and banana, sultanas and raisins are nice too though mmm Food you go through the fastest? hummus, salsa and pitta bread Youre at a restaurant and are splurging, eat more food or go for dessert? food, as the only restarants i would ever 'splurge' at would be nando's and wagamama, and their mains are soooooooo splurgeworthy One food you would make calorie free if you could? peanut butter, without a doubt Cook or be cooked for? cook Unpeel the banana and then eat it or peel as you eat? unpeel and then eat, but only because i rarely eat a banana on its own, usually it's chopped up in a sandwich or oats or on cereal..etc Rip up lettuce and then wash it or wash it then rip it up? buy the ready washed stuff Season meat and then throw it in the pan or put it in and then season? i have no idea how to cook meat Best way to make a burger? the vegan black bean burgers from how it all vegan, they are so delicious, in a pan with cooking spray. in a nice bap with ketchup. yum. Could you honestly eat chicken breast and broccoli for the rest of your life? noooooooo i can't eat chicken eerrgg. Favorite drink to have with dinner? water |

| Maintaining | UK people - clothing sizes there? help | May 31 2009 22:45 (UTC) |

my measurements are roughly 33-26-34ish??? i'm kind of guessing from memory cause i rarely measure myself anymore. i am 5'5. so you are a bit shorter and slimmer than me. i usually take an 8 on top and an 8-10 on the bottom. you may need a 6-8 or a 10 because as others have said, sizing is really inconsistent. just try everything on if you can, especially jeans! with tops i think you'd be safe with an 8. i find that topshop jeans are incredibly inconsistent, i have three pairs which are different sizes but fit me exactly the same. but if you can get a pair that fit you just right they are faithful and super comfy :) |

| Health & Support | binge foods in my house | May 23 2009 14:42 (UTC) |
|
How understanding are your family? Do they know that you binge eat, and if so do they take it seriously? If you think they would understand then it's a good idea to let them know, maybe sit down and tell them or write a letter if it's hard.. If they are understanding and want to help you get over it, you could ask if they would be willing to keep their own snacks in different places. When I was in the same position you are in now, I asked my brother to put his snack bars in his room where I couldn't get to them. I also asked my mum to put the peanut butter, jam, nutella etc somewhere different - everyone else in the house knew where it was kept except for me, so they didn't have to stop eating it. I think it was just in another cupboard at the back behind loads of other stuff or something, so wasn't in a really inconvenient 'hiding place'. This way also means that when you start to feel strong enough to introduce these foods back into your diet you can ask for the peanut butter (or whatever), make a sandwich, ask for it to be put away again... and it helps with re-learning how to enjoy things in moderation. Another option is to pre-portion peanut butter, cereal etc... into individual packets or bags so that if you DO slip up, you can be a little bit more aware - kind of a way of fighting against that 'trance' you go into where you'll just eat half a box of cereal without realizing... if it's all bagged up, you'll be more aware. Even if you ended up just eating one serving less, it'd be a victory.

Original Post by loriklorik: AHHH that is so cute!!!! I quite like Dinah and Belle :) Still not sure though.. I've also been brainstorming a lot of old lady chic names like Agnes and Enid which are sweeet. It's hard because whatever name I give her has gotta last her like 20 years.. and still suit her when she's grown up. Does anyone know any names that are like Juno or Nemo? I love those names but don't want to call her either of them cause of the films. |

| Health & Support | Daughter's eating habits... what to do? | May 13 2009 12:11 (UTC) |
34 |
dstev100 - I am an 18 year old girl and when I was 17 I was in a similar position your daughter is in now. The first paragraph of your original post could have been written about me, word for word. I can completely empathize with the lack of control that your daughter is feeling. Please understand that your daughters bingeing is her body's response to such long term starvation and it will be borderline impossible for her to ignore it's cries for food. Her body is literally SCREAMING at her for fuel because she previously deprived it for so long. I can assure you she will almost definitely be doing EVERYTHING within her power to stop herself from binge eating, especially if she is obsessed with her weight. It will be a constant mind/body struggle for her, (for me I was fighting it every minute of every day) but eventually the body will win over the mind because it is designed to survive, and fight to get what it needs. "She finds the food we hide and selfishly ignores the notes we put on it, and eats it anyway." Please don't think of your daughter as selfish, she is struggling with a whole range of illnesses from the sound of it, and literally is powerless against her body's confusing cries. "I think she is just being lazy and wants to rebel." I really don't think this is the case at all :( You describe your daughter as lazy twice, but how can she be lazy if she walks 7 miles a day, has a job, and has successfully graduated high school? Her lack of social life is likely down to low self esteem or depression. Eating disorder sufferers commonly push people away and become very withdrawn. I also think her reasons for not wanting to write down what she eats are completely valid. After your daughter has binge eaten, she will feel VERY depressed, and a lot of self-hatred, and writing everything down will just make her dwell on it even more. I understand how angry, upset, emotional you must feel about the situation, it must appear to you that her behavior is completely random and careless and selfish - but please understand she has a lot of problems and must be in turmoil inside. Is there any way you could accompany her to the psychologist? You really need medical professionals to help you with your case, rather than people on an online forum. Perhaps family therapy could be something to look into, especially since this problems is affecting your whole family. I also think it could be a good idea for you to read some literature on understanding eating disorders, if you haven't already. There is a lot of information on this website, but you could also look for books that offer advice on binge-eating and bulimia. I hope I have not offended you in any way, but the way you spoke about your daughter sent alarm bells ringing in my head. I know it's very difficult for you to understand what she is going through but please don't think of her as selfish and lazy and negligent - her behavior is compulsive. For the most part, she will feel completely powerless and as though she has no control and no way of stopping. This is something she can only overcome with professional help. Best of luck and I hope you and your family can all get through this, and that your daughter can soon begin recovery. |

cut pitta bread into traingles and put it in the oven for a few mins until it's crunchy (you could dip in salsa, hummus, cottage cheese, cream cheese, guacamole) i like to crumble it into soup too. or try and find some wholegrain, healthier chips. sugarsnap peas, carrot sticks, pepper slices (for dipping) use crunchy lettuce as a 'wrap' puffed wheat/puffed rice cereals (in yogurt, cottage cheese, milk) apples (dipped in pb? cottage cheese, cream cheese) nuts (you could sprinkle flaked almonds on things for crunch. i love flaked almonds on sliced banana) you can make salads REALLY crunchy, with raw vegetables, nuts, or 'crutons' made from a slice of toast cut up into squares |

| Health & Support | Anorexia Recovery - Hypoglycemia? | May 04 2009 18:00 (UTC) |
18 |
I thought that I developed hypoglycemia when I started gaining, I had the same symptoms. Since I've been a healthy BMI it's gone off a bit - no idea if this is related. (I wasn't hypoglycemic though - had the tests). It could be any number of things, especially since your weight is so dangerously low. I think you should bring it up with your GP and see if you can get some tests done, and meanwhile just make sure you're eating a weight gain diet and filling up every 3 hours or so, to avoid getting the symptoms. Have you got gaps between your exams that you can fit your meals or snacks into? You could fill out this hypoglycemia quiz and take the results to your doctor (you may have to do a screen shot if you want to get all your answers in.. can't remember exactly what I did). They can look into your symptoms then, maybe do tests or suggest what else it might be.. Good luck with your A Levels lovely :) |

| Health & Support | Dining out, and weight maintainance after restoration. | May 04 2009 17:46 (UTC) |

hey ellie. i know this is late but i thought i'd reply anyway, for next time you're going out to eat. i think most 'normal' 19 year olds would (i'm thinking about my friends here)... eat what they wanted all day before, and then go and eat whatever sounded good off of the menu, too. if it was me, i'd try and pick something moderately healthy 80% of the time (e.g. avoiding anything deep fried or whatever) but if it's a special occasion, or you just fancy your 20%, go for it! you may be weight restored but you are still in recovery from your eating disorder so i think it's important that you don't feel you have to 'restrict' or deprive yourself in any way. remember you are NOT DIETING so you shouldn't really feel like there are any strict rules or boundaries surrounding food. the reason we go to restaurants is to enjoy a special meal, company, surroundings.. relax and have fun, it's nice to try and soak up some of the conversation, the decour, and so on, and it also detracts from any anxiety that might arise relating to the actual food. is there anyone you know who has a healthy, balanced approach to food that you'd aspire to be like? for me, my brother is a pretty good example. he's 21 and just eats what he wants, but tries to be healthy and knows when to stop. he has such a relaxed attitude towards eating so when i'm with him it totally rubs off on me - i find it so much easier to relax a bit and follow his lead. if i was going out to eat and felt anxious, i'd just try and ask myself what he would do and it makes me feel relaxed and calm about it again, as though i was with him. maybe you have a friend, or relative, or your sister(?) who might make you feel like that too. but i hope it went well! i went to wagamama yesterday :) |

| Health & Support | Anyone had a lymphatic massage? | Apr 22 2009 19:45 (UTC) |
2 |
Hellooooo! I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/M.E. There is a treatment called Perin Treatment, which is a form of lymphatic draining massage specially developed as a treatment for CFS... I had it about a year ago. It definately had an effect on me.. unfortunately it was very negative. It made me soooo much more unwell, worsened all my symptoms and partially contributed towards a relapse. HOWEVER, since you're not going as treatment for illness it COULD work positively for you. I think it only had such a negative impact on me because of my CFS. It's really pricey though, so you kind of need to ask yourself what you're actually going to get out of it... Obviously it would have been worth it for me, had it lessened my CFS symptoms. |
