Team_malone posted this in another thread: 'I just got the one by Jerry Sienfeld's wife called "Deceptivley Delicious".It is made with kids in mind...and how to incorporate veggies into recipes by making a variety of vegetable puree's and adding them to things. I am enjoying the recipe's in it.' It might work for you, as well. |

I sometimes make a sauce using Balsamic vinegar, brown sugar, red pepper flakes, and chicken stock. I don't measure, but it's close to 3 parts chicken stock for 1 part vinegar, so for 1 cup of stock it would be 1/3 cup of vinegar (more if you like), then a teaspoon or two of sugar (mostly to taste) and some red pepper flakes (I like heat, if you don't you can take out the red pepper). You can also add garlic, ginger, salt or whatever.

I'm not a vegetarian, but I use a cookbook called 1,000 Low-Fat Vegetarian Recipes, and then I just tweak the recipes a little bit by adding meat to the soups and stews and such, or using chicken stock instead of vegetable stock. It also has the calorie count for each recipe, so that comes in handy. |

I do sort of the same thing as Giabash. Only, I leave it raw and squeeze a fresh lemon over it. Then, chill it in the fridge for about an hour. It works better if you slice it really thin. |

Cool Ranch Doritos, I eat entire large bags at a time, so right now, they are banned from my life. It makes me sad. |

4 sea scallops on a bed of barely warmed baby spinach and sliced granny smith apple with a homemade honey mustard dressing and 1 slice of bacon chopped into bacon bits. It was 330 calories total. |

I just found this doing a quick google search for calories in cough syrup. You might find a better link: Approximately 15 calories per ml...so if there is 120ml in a standard bottle of cough syrup then that means there are 1800 calories in a bottle.http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_many_calories_a re_in_a_120ml_bottle_of_cough_syrup |

I do this, also, and if I let myself I will eat until I can't move (I love food; cooking, eating, menu planning, recipe creating, grocery shopping are my favorite things to do in the entire world). I wake up at night and my first impulse is to head straight for the kitchen. My favorite wake-up snacks are deli meats wrapped in cheese (I no longer keep deli meat in the apartment) and cashews (not handfuls but entire packages, I now buy them in single serving packages). Instead of trying to fight the urge to eat, I allow myself to eat a little something, like fruit or yogurt. Then, before I allow myself to eat more, I do one or all or any combination of the following. 1. I go to the gym for an hour (at about 3 in the morning) and do some sort of cardio. 2. I'll do light calisthentics, body weight exercises (push-ups, lunges, stretching) around my apartment or I'll clean or find other ways to keep myself busy, reading, sewing, drawing, staring at the internet. 3. Sometimes a nice hot cup of tea fills me up a little. 4. I'll bake, healthy-ish things. I don't buy a lot of junk food. Instead, I make it myself. Foods I cook at home have less 'filler' ingredients and pack more punch per calorie, so if I am going to eat, I'll feel sated sooner. Also, doing any sort of kneading, rolling, punching, and cleaning up the mess when your done burns calories. Ultimately, I find exercising is the best thing for me, because if I do decide to eat, at least I have a bit of a deficit already, so I won't blow my calories for the day, entirely.

This is a recipe I've used a few times. If you like tangy potatoes it's really good. Also, the ingredient amounts can be played with to get it to taste. In fact, the original recipe calls for a cup of olive oil, but that was too much for me. Sometimes I do away with the olive oil entirely and add extra lemon juice and vinegar or I'll use balsamic vinegar instead of red wine vinegar or drizzle the potatoes with a little dab truffle oil. 1 pound potatoes, halved with the skin on 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil (this comes out to about 4 tbsp) Bring a large saucepan of salted water to a boil. Add the potatoes and cook 15 minutes, or until tender. Drain well and cool. Peel the potatoes. Mash the potatoes in a bowl. Smash the garlic with the knife and chop it up really small (you can use roasted garlic for this, but I personally like to use raw garlic). Add the garlic to the potatoes and stir well. Gradually add the vinegar, lemon juice, and the oil. Add salt and pepper to taste. |

Akela, I have to do the same thing, no dinner until after my run! However, if you like to cook vigorously (chop veggies in a sick OCD kind of way, use a whisk or spoon instead of the electric mixer, knead dough yourself, hand mash potatoes, etc) doing cooking prep work burns 140-200 calories an hour. I don't include that in my calorie count, though, because I am certain I eat twice that in calories "testing" my food. |

What I enjoyed about wanting to lose weight is exercising. I have horrible mood swings and I get sad/angry for no reason. I make myself miserable. Working out consistently has helped my mood stay more balanced and if I am particularly miserable a good run helps a lot. I just feel better. Edit: Another thing that I've enjoyed because of my diet is discovering new foods and creative ways to use them. Things like acorn squash, spaghetti squash, quinoa, chard, new types of mushrooms, etc. and learning how to make my own jams and applesauce. Also, I'm learning how to use old standbys like chicken and broccoli more creatively whether it be new cooking techniques (love my new wok) or recipe experimentation. I really enjoy experiencing food (buying it, prepping it, cooking it, plating it) now, as opposed to just the act of eating it. |

Thanks everyone for the replies and the advice. I'm definitely going to check out a different material. I really like the idea of the seamless bra, because I feel like I get oversensitive when I am doing cardio. I think I can feel every seam and it starts to annoy me. I'm also going to check out the Body Glide that was mentioned. And thank you for all the links. It looks a little like buying a house is less complicated than buying a good sports bra

Thank you for the quick reply. That's a good point I hadn't considered. My sports bras are all lightweight cottons, so there does seem to be a lot of stretch in the material and that allows movement. I'll look at Champion and maybe Danskin; I have a store close to me. |

Original Post by evie19: Are you going to use someone who is healthy to barely overweight? Because many people assume people at a healthy weight should be happy to be where they are, but a lot aren't. Plus, the perception of seeing someone who is already too skinny, people are going to assume that's how they got there anyway and you aren't going to move them emotionally. People who are too overweight some ignorant people are just going to snicker and say, "Well, that's what they deserve," and you have the same issue of not emotionally moving someone. |

I don't know what edit platform you are using, so I am imagining this being done on Avid. I'm a video editor, so I haven't touched a camera in years. Brainstorms: Here's my idea, videotape or get pictures of 30 people who are unhappy with their bodies. Then, just do one second shots with either a 20 frame dissolve over each one or have them melt into each other. Just one after another of unhappy body image people. Or you could take shots of individuals and focus on the part of the body they are least happy with... Pan across the body part and then do a dissolve into the next body part. Or you could get a group of people starting at very obese all the way down to super skinny and do a very slow 30 second pan across them, each in a different insecure pose, one covering their belly another covering their face. One in ultra baggy clothes to cover the weight, one holding a laxative, one screaming. This would really require no editing, unless you wanted to do a title over them saying something like "We're all different, but we share insecurities," or something like that. You could also do a time lapse of someone sitting on a couch or something with 30 healthy foods or something and as they are sitting there, you take out a health food and replace it with an unhealthy food. YOu would put a camera on a tripod and every two or three seconds exchange a food until it's all junk food surrounding this person, then in the end they can knock it over and overcome their obsession. You would edit out the times when you walked into frame and you would want each shot to last 10 full frames with 20 frame dissolves. I hope this helps.

| Motivation | Quit smoking 3 days ago... now I want to eat! Ack!! | Mar 06 2009 09:00 (UTC) |

Congrats on quitting smoking. I quit six years and two monthes ago, and here's what I did to keep my mouth busy; it's as much an oral habit as it is a nicotine addiction. I blew up a lot of balloons, for the first two weeks, I blew up a package of balloons a day. I found when I ran out of breath I had a little dizzy feeling almost like the first shot of nicotine of the day would give me. I chewed a lot of gum; when I am stressed I still do. I sucked on ice cubes. I didn't chew them, just sucked on them. Sometimes, I made flavored ice cubes so I would enjoy them. Occasionally, I would chew on straws. For me, it was about keeping my mouth busy, because I was really tied into the whole act of smoking, and I didn't want to replace smoking with eating. I didn't want food to become my cigarette replacement.
