If aren't a traditionalist, some of the less healthy, Americanized rolls are good too.  A place near my house does something called a "Rock 'n' Roll," which is spicy tuna with tempura batter.  It's pretty yummy, I must confess... as long as you're taking a break from calorie counting, that is. =) The fat content in that one has to be off the charts.

Agreed!   I love me some raw fish, but there was a "sushi buffet" (not as gross as you'd think, they were new and family-run.  Chefs made you 2 rolls specially when you sat down, then there were 10 kinds on the "bar" at all times plus some other stuff in generic buffet style)  near me that did the batter-fried sushi.  So good....  But I'll eat anything.  Eel is my favorite, then Salmon, then those in sushi rolls instead of just plain.  Then all the fried stuff.

Know what I don't like?  The rolls with rice on the outside!!! WHY.  IT MAKES IT STICKY.  /rant.  I can't get nori-outside around here.

My BMI is 17 right now, but it's BEEN 14.5, so I guess I really don't feel like I'm all that in need of help right now. But I guess that's being in denial.

You sound just like my friend Gemma did a few weeks ago.   She was saying that she was a whole XXlbs above her low weight, which must be so fat.  She kept justifying it to herself that she was so far from her low weight that a few more pounds off wouldn't hurt, even though her BMI was similar to yours.

Then she got a chest infection, which she always gets when she's being unhealthy.  That was the first tip-off, but she explained that she's just prone to them now from having them before.

Then she started having panic attacks, which she also only gets when she's being unhealthy, but she reasoned that she was just getting them because of her sickness... then her weight kept dropping and now I'm afraid that she's gotten very seriously ill again.

The whole time, she was resisting getting treatment, saying that she was fine &  she was staying healthy.  She didn't even realize that just by losing the weight, her reasoning was no longer sound and she couldn't stop once she got started.  I haven't seen her in weeks now, I hope that her family managed to get her sent to get some help.

Wow, that's impressive to me.  I have never once been able to resist restaurant bread haha.  It's a dealbreaker.

How am I dealing with Thanksgiving?  Well I'm going to a friend's house and her family DOESNT LIKE PUMPKIN.  And they apparently don't have plans for any pies other than the apple one I am bringing.... I know that they will not know the difference if I make a mediocre apple pie on purpose so that I don't get tempted, but i dunno.   I think I will at least get a premade crust to save myself time and temptation, since the filling really won't be too unhealthy.  I'll healthify it anyway.  I'll just make fantastic filling and apologize about the crust.

Beyond pie, there's nothing that really tempts me for thanksgiving.  Sure, I love turkey and gravy, but 1 day of stuffing myself with that won't really hurt me.  I've been trying to keep a larger deficit all week to account for it as well.

I am so glad that I lost all my weight quickly after coming to college.  I only have to deal with that while I'm home.

I'm a wimp.  I just say that I was too busy / social / the meal hall was far away and closed before I liked to have dinner .... no one wants to hear the reality anyway.

Try all the at-home hangover remedies like gatorade and aspirin etc.  because junk food is only helping your psyche, not your body, recover from the drinking.

Eat lightly regardless of whether you think you will be going out.  I learned the hard way that my friends will ALWAYS drag me to dinner 3 hours after I've had a huge lunch.

What are your goals?  Did you know that the body will always use carbs and fat before turning to protein?  Unless you are in deficit of the first two, the extra protein is not going to help.

That being said- If you like sashimi (raw fish) or even think that you might, get 2 lb of raw tuna or salmon from a reputable place like an upscale supermarket.  Dip raw in teriyaki sauce - YUM.    Or put over rice.

If you are trying to gain, I'd say do what I want to do every day!  Take chicken + black beans + tons of avocado or guacamole + stir fry veggies and have a chipotle style fajita burrito!  (whole grain high fiber tortilla or just go without if you please)

I think Louis Black said it best about eggs, but I apply this to just about everything lol.

"First eggs are bad, then they're good, then they're bad, then the yolks are bad but the whites are good MAKE UP YOUR MIND, IT'S BREAKFAST, I HAVE TO EAT."

I totally apply that to fats, eggs, and just about anything I hear from research or the internet.  Sure, take note of it, add it to the mental stock of "facts I know" but nothing is the be-all-end-all of diet knowledge.

Weight Loss Ouugh the scale... Nov 23 2009

My scale drives me bonkers as well, but I finally concluded that it's the scale.  Reading exactly the same, down to the decimal place, for an entire week (even when I tried night vs morning) just wasn't right.   I screamed, took out the batteries & replaced them, and voila, lost 3 lbs.

While coffee is a laxative, you were already irregular beforehand, so perhaps it just was undoing the damage already done?  6 days of backlog is quite a bit.  Maybe try it when you aren't already in a bad place.

Motivation Lack of motivation. Nov 22 2009

I  agree with GI-jane.  Maybe you need to mix it up.  I know that I can no longer force myself to go to the gym lately.  Instead, I've adding extra miles of walking to my day for things such as post office trips and supermarket runs.  It helps that I don't have a car.  If you drive, then bike places, if you bike, start walking.

Try some alternative forms of weight loss.  Things like upping fiber to a ridiculous amount (make sure you are hydrated!) or just little strategies that work for you.

I'm sure you have times when you feel extremely motivated.  Use these times to go food shopping and DO NOT go at any other time!  Buy only healthy fibrous and lean items, then you CANT waste them by buying junk later!  (I'm currently using this tactic lol!  I am having a motivation crisis as well tbh)  It's like Oh I'm super-motivated, I'm going to the grocery store and all I'm getting is broccoli and chicken and mushrooms!  ~~ 1 week later I want cheese burgers but all I have is broccoli and chicken.... so I have a delicious meal and wonder why I wanted that cheese burger to begin with!

What are your problem foods?  What are your favorite foods?  What are the healthy foods that you love?  Make a list of things you cannot buy or things you have to buy at the supermarket / store / wherever if this applies to you.  I cannot buy instant rice.  Weird, I know, but I will eat 3 cups of rice with a meal if I have it.  I have to buy cabbage and mushrooms.  I love these things and they are completely low calorie.

If you are looking for a metabolism boost I'd say the peppers thing is a sure bet.  I know many people don't like pills, but I don't like spicy! So I take cayenne pills.  They increase my resting heartrate to my walking heartrate, and my walking (90) to about 110.  The effects are not long-lived though.  For best results, green tea + cayenne + caffeine (caffeine is optional, and really if you have regular caffienated green tea you do not need it).  You can also try bitter orange (Citrus aurantium), which I believe is found in earl grey tea.  Disclaimer- do not do any of this if you have heart problems.   I have a very low blood pressure and slow heartrate, so the risk to me is negligible.

Everything about metabolism boosting is shady science honestly, but I've seen studies on the green tea / capsaican / caffeine combo.  Relatively legit, even though there was a low sample size.

Honestly, you sound super-healthy and your body may be clinging to this weight for a good reason.  I'd suggest perhaps doing some light muscle work and toning up while you are struggling, as it's easier to build muscle now.

Hmmm what else (I've seen tons of these threads so I'm trying to remember it all)  Calorie Cycling!  Like 1200 one day, 1600 the next, 1300 after that.

Also- drinking water is not just for your weight!  It will greatly improve your running as well.  I used to run and it's so rough running dehydrated!  Just carry a bottle everywhere and it will become habit to drink from it.

Annnddddd ... you could try upping your protein percentage.  Not low-carb per say, but if you are doing 30C/30P/30F  you could try 20C/50P/20F, as protein has the highest thermogenic effect out of all the macronutrients.

I actually stop checking back after posting in that kind of thread on purpose.  It just makes me so mad to see the responses, so I ignore it and am content that I've said my piece.

1.  she does not have any ED.  Stop acting like she does and couching all of your responses based on that.  1500 calories and self-esteem issues makes her a normal teen, not an anorexia-promoting queen.

2.  the thread had almost nothing to do with how much weight she still had to lose.  You and hedgren made it about that.  It was a rant thread about the comments of others, the same type of thread people make every day.

peaches0405's response was a good example of a response that got the point across while not seeming like a you-know-what.  As was your later post (I'm checking back now because you mentioned it).

I've been bouncing around BMI 21-22 for about a year now trying to kick those last 10lbs, and let me tell you, every day I think about how long a ways I still have to go.  The last 10lbs are so hard because the motivation is gone (for me anyway) and I just want them to melt away like the first 10 did.  I'd be quite likely to post on the forums as having a long way to go.  Maybe that's why I'm so defensive of this girl, I'm wondering when people like me became unwelcome here.  When did I get too thin to be allowed to post my troubles in this forum?

I never said anything yay or nay about her weight loss- I didn't have the information needed to do so.  I simply said what I say in that situation consistently - If you aren't happy, then it's time to make a change.  I don't believe that age has any affect on that.

Honestly, I find more supportive and reasonable people on Livejournal these days. (And if you've heard the horror stories about that place, that's saying something)  Oh wait- I shouldn't say that since some of my livejournal posts are public so it would be okay for people to scour the internet, find them, and turn this thread into a personal discussion about my weight.

I agree that when someone is looking for advice in the area of how many calories, how many lbs, etc. looking through posting history is justified because they probably just forgot their stats or didn't realize that you'd need them in order to help.  However, that thread was not one of those situations.

If you see something you don't like hit the 'report violation' button....

That's only for entire threads though, which makes it look like you think the original poster is at fault, not the following comments.

Yeah, I've pretty much stopped being active on the forums because of the abuse that's started against anyone who isn't conforming to any one member's view of a perfect diet, perfect BMI, etc etc.  There really needs to be some kind of mod action against it.  I get that each person can suggest their own diet or state their opinion that something is unhealthy, but people are starting to do it in a "If you aren't already following MY rules you must be dumb!" kind of way.

It is in the "how to get a thread locked" sticky that you aren't allowed to abuse or harass other members, but there's such a vague definition.  No name-calling obviously, or trolling, but I've seen TONS of posts that snark at someone for having an ED when they do not, which I consider a form of name-calling.  Even nastier than names actually, because there are people who read here who probably do have problems like that.

Also- I've started seeing a lot of members, if they can't get the incriminating data they want, they will go into the poster's personal journal and previous posts, and use things there to discount anything the poster may say.  I think this qualifies as harassment when what they find are not relevant to the post, and are only used to fuel a personal attack.

For example: Giasbash (sorry if I spelled it wrong!) takes (very gracefully I might add) **** from a few members who will see her post in a thread, look and see her interesting diet on her profile, and then use that against her even if the post is mostly unrelated, basically discounting what she says.  They just never say specifically "anorexic!" or any real "name."

Or I've seen someone complaining about meat making her ill due to her long abstinence from it, and another member replying that she probably just wanted an excuse to purge.  The person had followed her posting history back to find that she used to be bulimic, but that fact was completely unrelated to the discussion.

Just this week a girl posted a generic "Omg don't you hate when ____________?! " sort of rant, and was immediately attacked by two people and called anorexic (without using the names of course) and dumb, then someone stalked her posting history back and found her stats to parade to everyone, and guess what, she was over the average weight for her age.  So it didn't even make sense for them to bash her.

I consider that harassment.  Sorry for the long post, but it's been bothering me for a while, and I hope the mods see this.

Mmmm went to cracker barrel yesterday, so delicious but no nutritional info.  Sad.  So I just said 500 for each side and 1000 for the main dish.  Good thing it took me 2 days to eat it all.

Uh huh. So what? How old are you? This your first massive diet? What's your BMI? How compulsively are you exercising and restricting your calories? How much weight have you lost?

Any history in your family of eating disorders, addictive behaviors, compulsions? Did you know that genetics can trigger a change in your brain when you start restricting calories that will inevitably result in an eating disorder?

All you've done is whine that you don't believe people around you saying you are skinny. Are you just looking for a bunch of posts to confirm how silly people can be in thinking you are underweight when obviously you are not because you have small hips?! Well, sorry I can't oblige.

Kankan- I definitely disagree.  Being stuck in a body you are insecure about is no way to spend the "best" years of life.

Why does not posting her stats automatically mean that she is at risk for a disorder?

And to the people who posted the stats after - RUDE.

Try eating only things for which you actually know the calorie count for a few days.  Packaged things aren't always bad - frozen fruit and veggies have calories and serving sizes on the bags.

Then if you feel hungrier or the weight comes off, you were underestimating your calories.

Owww.  I think my deficit for today might be effed.  I just had lunch and it was mushroom ravioli with a cream sauce.  Usually the place I got it from has nice light things / a little bit of sauce, but today it was SMOTHERED in something that tasted like pure cream.  It was so nasty that I only ate half (and it was small) but I still think it killed me.  200 for the sauce, 300 for the ravioli.
