I know that everybody is built differently, but I am 5'1 as well, and at 105 I had no problem fitting nicely into size 2 pants/jeans. I can't imagine that anyone on the cruise would think a size 2 is overweight. I totally understand wanting to lose that last 5 or 10 pounds, but honestly, at this point, it's not an "I can't be seen in public" emergency!

Is it possible that you have an unrealistic perception of what your body looks like?

Edited to add-- If you can find 10 minutes to jump rope twice during your day-- say once in the morning and once at night, it's a quick and efficient way to burn off 150 calories!

yeah, i went on a cruise.. and 90% of people on cruises are bigger people.. being a size 10 is tiny compared to most. and honestly... im 5'1" too so i know a healthy weight is 130 - 95lbs depending on build.... how low are you shooting for if your just barely over 100lbs?????

Weight Loss do you think the size of your friends influences your weight? Dec 10 2008

i dont think it does... i used to have a group friends i was always going out with, and they were TINY and i was about the same i am now. when i managed to loose some weight a few years ago i had both heavy, and skinny friends. and now im pretty heavy trying to loose weight and my best friend, also my boyfriend, is very thin and athletic... so i dont think the size of friends play into it.

Fitness A few jogging questions......... Dec 10 2008

ok so i was reading and found something that may be what is causing the back pain for you. it says in my book that shoes, if you have a low quality, poor fitted, or the wrong type can make you back hurt. so maybe you should look into going to a running shoe store, a specialty place, and get measured up for some decent shoes?

Original Post by keb1984:

I have noticed that when I jog, my back will sometimes hurt. Is this from the impact or maybe my posture when I jog?

Also, I noticed yesterday when I was on the treadmill and I forgot to open the window, that my heart rate was higher than today when I jogged at a faster speed with the window open. Do you think that because I was cooler and not sweating as much, that this is why my heart rate wasnt as high? Does this mean that I burn less calories if I jog with the window open than if it were cold? I know it sounds like a stupid question, but it is something that I noticed today.

And one more thing, I have been able to jog 5 k, but it takes me 40 mins to do it. What is the best way to improve my time? Should I continue at a steady pace for 50 mins and eventually improve, or should I push myself as fast as I can for as long as I can and then slow down?

I know thats alot of questions, so thanks in advance.

ill try and take a stab at this, as for your back, im not sure, never heard of anything like that.. but the open window i think i get that. i know when i have a fan when im on the elliptical, or if there is a good breeze when im running i dont feel so overwhelmed hot and icky and tend to do better and a lot more. i think its just a comfort thing, your body is getting the work, but its a lower strain on you making it more comfortable to go harder. kinda like when you have a head ache and you do something to get your mind off it, see a movie, talk with a friend. you still have the headache, but you just forget.

for making your time better jogging. try doing intervals, jog a minute or two, run/faster pace jog a minute, jog another minute or two, and continue that, when that gets easier, add to the time you ran. you could also increase incline if your on a treadmill, or go up hills if your outside to increase in tensity and to work those muscles.

cycypress:  Good luck with the running.  Keep it up and before too long you'll be cruising.  I still just walk (although pretty darn fast for me) on the treadmill.  I have to be careful with my knees.

thanks! im still at it, i did my second run today. im pretty sore just above my knees i think thats just a product of i never ever run. im trying an eating plan with my mom to see if this works out ok for me. its called flat belly. our neighbors are having some good results with it so i think theres a good chance ill do ok with it. gonna give it two weeks and if i dont see anything positive ill go back to my low carb.

very early this morning i ordered a cappuccino, and for some reason forgot to say soy (assuming that was because it was so early and i hadnt yet had a cappuccino!). i havent had dairy in a long time, i am vegan, and i didnt sip the drink until i was a few blocks away. i decided to drink it anyways, i was too lazy to go back and i would hate to have to explain my stupidity to the barista, and i wasnt about to toss away a 4 dollar cappuccino and have to buy another coffee. what are your thoughts about this? would every other vegan have done something differently? i do feel a little sick, assume from all the fatty milk i am not used to.

well im vegetarian now, but i was vegan for a while and i did something simular, went out with my bf and i got a veggie burger, remembered the whole no cheese thing and forgot them had mayo on it which is egg so i was kinda having the same thought process. i ate it cause it was my mistake and asking to have a veggie burger remade in most places takes forever.

if you dont think there was anything wrong with that then i wouldn worry about it, as far as i know there isnt a law that says a vegan cant have one mess up now and then. just be careful cause sometimes it can make you really sick (like finding bacon in your soup when youve not had meat in a year @__@)

Thanks cycypress! I'm so lazy, I eat whatever is there. I eat tons of rotisserie chickens from the grocery store, salads (in a bag of course, all cut up nice for me) and quesadillas made from those low carb tortillas. When I go out, I'll eat grilled meat and double up on veggies. It's actually pretty dang easy to do, it's just getting used to it is all

i went low carb once befor and lost a lot of weight, but now i dont eat meat, dont like 80% and ive not eaten it in so long it makes me feel sick... so its a bit of a challenge so far getting things in order. but so far ive been veggie eating machine, i eat some fish but its a bit pricey to have every day. most recipes i can tweak cause i know how to improvise out meats.

my biggest delema is my bf likes to eat stuff like ramen, and cookies, and soda, so its challenging for me to overcome that and still spend time with him. but i think after this weekend i know im in control. got to sit around a plate of cookies for two days (6 hours in the room with the dang things)

Hi all!

So I didn't weight in this week...partially because I was soooo busy (out of town) and partially because I was upset with myself.

I haven't gone to the gym for over a week. I have been sick and haven't had much energy. I went to the gym one day and was ready to leave after 5 minutes. I did some stuff at home, but there is nothing like the gym. Even worse, I haven't been coming to the site! I have been watching my intake, but not actually counting (and I could be making better choices!)...and weighing myself but not recording it. I am disappointed in myself because I know what I am doing--getting unmotivated!

I think I need to set myself a goal...so here it is 175, solid, by New Years. I'm hovering at 179 now, so thats a 4 lb goal for 3ish weeks. It will be a challenge because I have a BILLION holiday parties between now and then...but...I have to try!

On a lighter note, I was doing some clothes shopping last weekend and bought myself a pair of Dockers jeans in a 16, my standard size. Well, they had a stretch quality to them (nothing out of the ordinary) and they were way too big after wearing them for an hour. (I HATE WHEN THAT HAPPENS! All of a sudden you have saggy butt)! I went back and exchanged for a 14...same thing! Still too big after and hour! I finally went back and found a 12 short and they fit perfectly! After and hour, they were just perfect instead of falling off! Now--I don't know if it's the brand, but getting into a 12 made my day!

:)

nice!

thats what im working towards right now, i have a pair of 12's i used to fit in two years ago, and i want them to fit.

good job with that making it so far!

@spirochete

i have a flax bread recipe if you want, it has less than 1 net card depending on the brand of flax you use. make it into a foccassia and its great with tuna and im sure chicken salad. i made some recently and loved it. flax is a little hard to work with, so it make take one or two tries to get the mixture you like down, i use less oil and water so its a dryer bread personally...

i get about 20 net carbs right now so im working on collecting a lot of recipes if you want to trade some with me ^^

Fitness Running? Jogging? Dec 07 2008

ok so running and jogging if you consistently keep at it and put your heart into it, then yeah you could loose weight, it works a good range of muscles, ups the heart rate, and burns calories.

you can also burn a signifacnt amount doing jump roping, like speed ropes especially, but like with running and jogging you really gotta keep at it!

sit ups, pushups, squats those are toning and strength, not cardio. cardio is what burns fat and increases matabolism. toning and strength are also important though, as it helps with creating muscle, and toning that muscle which burns calories on its own. its good to have a balance of both.

essentially anything that raises you heart rate will burn fat and helpf you loose weight. so if running isnt your thing you could try biking, skating, swimming, etc. try picking up a sport with a group in your area maybe that would fit you better than just running?

Weight Loss Acai Berry Dec 07 2008

im not sure, havent tried it but have considered. i would think just acai berries in general would be just as good if not better having nothing added to them like a bottlled item would. i bet you could find them at a health store, or ask someone at a healthstore, or a specialist in alternative medicine. ideally im sure they would say dont bother... but thats just a guess from what ive read into stuff like that.

wow impressive a lot of responses, guess i jump in

im 5'2" 196, im working toward about 160 as my first big goal, or to fit into my size 12's which ever happens first (wear a 16-17 depends on style) so i have a ways to go. my goal is to get to my size 12's by april 10th. ive got a social event im going to with my bf so i want to be back to that weight so i can feel comfortable dressing up a bit. i was 165 just short of 3 years ago, and befor that i was about 180-190 and i was the happiest with myself at 165 so i think if i can at least get to that point ill be happy with my work.

currently im working with an idea that i hope will not fail me. befor i lost the weight doing low carb dieting, which was fine and dandy then, but im vegetarian and have been for about a year with no interest in going back just yet. so im doing a modified low carb. LOT AND LOTS of veggies, no soda, no white rice/bread/pastas, HIGH fiber, and lots of fluids (drinking lots of club soda cause it keeps me from craiving my sugary soda, and diet snapple which i love) so far im a week into this and im down 3 lbs, but i think thats just water weight ... but still its something.

ok i have some personal experience in atkins for one

yes, you are likely to loose weight, but for me personally... very unplesant to stick to forever, and thats what weight loss is, its a permanent fix. but i am using the basics in that for what im doing now cause i did see dramatic results.

im currently doing a low carb sort of thing. staying as far away from refined sugars and carbohydrates. and eats high fiber, reasonable protein, and LOTS of veggies. its a bit early in the game to determine how fast the loss is, but there is lots of room for keeping your appitite satisfied, and im pretty sure ill see a huge overall loss.

overall... atkins was a huge fad, yes it had a ok idea, but went in the same direction as most diets like that, fast loss, short term result. in addition, it tends to push you towards high cholestral eating which is a seriously negative thing. but eating complex carbs, and high fiber i think has been good so far.
