Fitness Insanity Workout? Beyond p90x?! Sep 01 2009

Oh that sucks!  I have back problems so I have to ease up on things on occasion too.  I was initially just going to do the Insanity dvd's on my non-lifting days instead of the cardio or HIIT that I usually do.  Now I think I may scrap the lifting for the two months and just do the whole program.  I'm sure my body could use a shake up at this time.  I take muay thai classes 3 times a week so I consider myself in good shape.  I'm always looking for ways to increase my endurance.  My husband loves P90X so I tried it but I was able to get through them the first time I tried.  I was looking for something that I couldn't get through the first go round and this is it!  I read Oxygen mag and saw a post in their forums from a girl who does fitness competitions and she said she almost puked, so that's where I first heard of it. At least I know these dvd's will keep me challenged for a long time.  I am going to start fresh on Monday and go by the calendar.  Good luck with your knee & keep me posted! I'll let you know what I think of day 9!

Thanks for the link to the blog, lots of great stuff to read.

I was so psyched to get to Day 9 after what you said but I came down with the flu! Yell

I've been sick for almost a week now.  I'm just going to start over, hoping to feel like myself by Wedensday, sucks but what can you do.

Did you do the whole program?

I've been doing Muay Thai (thai kickboxing) for over a year and a half now and I love it!  It's such a great workout!

I have Celiac disease.  I had a lot of stomach issues as well as constant horrible heartburn, stomach cramps, etc.  Eliminating gluten makes a significant difference.  Most people who have Celiac also have a lactose problem (which for some can actually go away once you eliminate gluten).  I personally am allergic to casein so I have also eliminated all dairy products, I also have other food allergies (soy, eggs, navy beans, kidney beans, casein).  Celiac disease is an autoimmune disease, if left untreated it could lead to intestinal cancer, lymphoma or other problems.  I personally have experienced bone loss and still have malabsorption problems (and its been 7 years now).  You should tell him to see a gastroenterologist, there are blood tests for Celiac Disease as well as endoscopy if the doctor feels it necessary.

You couldn't pay me enough money to ingest even one crumb of gluten now, its just not worth.  The difference is night and day.

AWW come on, now I'm SCARED for day 9 Surprised!!  Will I be disabled and hobbling after Max Plyo?  I'm already blown away (heck, the Fit Test by itself is a great workout) and I'm assuming it only gets worse! I'm sure when I get to Day 9 I'll be saying WTF!!

Plyo on Cocaine & Steroids....good description!  Yes it really does blow P90X away, IMO.  The participants can't even finish the workout, they ALL need a break, and how Shaun T can do most of the workout and still speak is beyond me, the participants can't even speak they are so winded.  Great workout, its very fast paced, very few breaks, and just when you think you are about to die, it gets harder!  It's great for those who already do P90X and are getting bored.

I just started doing Insanity last week, I usually dont do DVDs at all because I haven't found a really challenging workout DVD yet and this is definitely challenging. I needed some good HIIT workouts, usually HIIT feels like a chore but these workouts are fun, and I feel like Shaun T is pushing me.  I can see myself using these DVDs for a long time.

On another note, anybody ever use Tony Horton One on One, just borrowed a copy but haven't viewed it yet.

OMG!  I just did this for the first time.  I thought P90X was hard.  I couldn't believe the warm up was so hard.  I thought my legs were going to go numb.  I was truly scared what the actual workout could be after that kick butt warmup.  I love P90X Plyo but this totally blows it away.  Insanity it is!

I love True Blood!  I also wondered why Bill didn't tell Sookie about the blood lust thing.  Oh well, his loss I guess.

I love Lafayette too, I hope they don't kill him off the series.  I know somebody who read the books and told me some things, I have no interest in reading them because I don't want to spoil the series.

OMG I got emotional too when Godric killed himself!

I just went to a UFC 101 and it was awesome!  I've been to some local MMA fights which was cool too.  I'm still trying to find some local Muay Thai fights which I am more interested in.  I watch a lot of fights on tv but its not the same as live.  You do pick stuff up and the atmosphere is awesome!

I go 3 times a week, I'd go more but the place I go to is about 1/2 hour from my house and the times of some of the classes just aren't that convenient for me, otherwise I would go every day because I love it so much.  The price I pay is for unlimited classes.  It is expensive but its the same everywhere else around here, even a gym membership would cost that much.  Its expensive living here on the east coast!  Boy your place is cheap, that's awesome!!

My place does belts, I'm a purple belt now.  There aren't any tournaments around here for Muay Thai (that I know of anyway) otherwise I would definitely go watch.  The best I can do is watch MMA fights which I do go to once in a while.  I also watch as much MMA as I can see on tv, like UFC (just went to UFC 101 and LOVED it!) or WEC, and there's always YouTube.  I'd had to travel to find a Muay Thai tournament.

bmx - WOW that's some MT record your instructor has!!  I pay more than $120 a month but that's what it costs in my area.  All the places around here charge that much.   Looks like a cool place!  Conditioning is so important, especially when it comes to sparring.  Yeah I hear you on the equipment being expensive, I have a bunch of equipment for sparring and a bag and mits at home, it does get a pricey.

Cool that you have friends that you can spar and grapple with, its such a great workout!

Hey nutbox, I do muay thai (thai kickboxing) at a martial arts place too.  I love it!  It's a big difference from the tae bo type cardio kickboxing workouts, no comparison in my opinion as I used to do that type of workout prior to muay thai.  I've been going for about 1-1/2 years and I can't imagine NOT doing it.  Awesome, awesome workout.  You will start noticing new muscles in about 3 weeks, arms, abs, back, legs.  I know what you mean about feeling more awake and less grumpy, I think its the focus of the whole thing.  It definitely helps me out mentally too.  I still look forward going to my classes, after a year and a half, so I know that I'll stick to it.  Good luck, keep it up!

poohlover - Frosted Flakes and Rice Krispies both have gluten (unless you are buying an off brand), they contain Malt, even Corn Flakes have malt in them.  Modified food starch is Gluten Free because it is derived from corn.  Soy sauce is ok as long as there is no wheat in the ingredients.  Soda is fine too, there is nothing in soda that has gluten in it.  You should check out glutenfreeliving.com.

naskigi - There's plenty of GF food in the supermarket.  Fresh stuff is your best bet, fruit, veggies, meat, all GF.  There are now a lot of GF commerical items.  Chex cereal has GF options and now Betty Crocker makes GF cookies, brownies, and cakes.

SOS - No doubt, I definitely feel better.  I was diagnosed celiac 7 years ago, egg and soy allergies 4 years ago, casein and bean allergies (and I think brewers yeast too) 1 year ago.  I still have deficiencies and continue to have other problems.  I am sooooo much better than before, so I am not complaining one bit, I am probably healthier than most people I know (or as my friend says 'the healthiest sick person she's ever known') but it continues to be a struggle...

safina - I strength train as well (and had been for some time before kickboxing) and I couldn't believe the muscle definition that I got from Muay Thai.  Definitely toned up and gained new muscles in my arms, chest, abs, hips, legs, calf and back, muscles that I didn't know existed.  And it really didn't take too long, I'd say about 3 weeks before I noticed a difference.  Give it a try.

I've never done cardio kickbox but if it's like Tae Bo tapes then you may not notice a difference if you strength train.  I used to do Tae Bo all the time and never got new muscles from it, but it did help my core and it's a good cardio workout.  The martial arts classes are awesome though, no comparison with regard to muscle gain IMO.

Me too!  I have celiac so there's no gluten for me either, not sure if you're gluten intolerant or have celiac, big difference!  The cross contamination issue with gluten for celiac's is really tough.  I'm also allergic to soy, egg, navy bean, kidney bean, casein (all dairy).  It's difficult for me to even eat gluten-free with all the other allergies, I so wish I could go back to gluten free::::sigh::::::

I don't do caffeine either per the doctor.  I drink maybe two cups of decaf a day, but that's it.

I also have adrenal gland failure (and heavy metal poisoning and low thyroid...geez, does it end!).  It's so overwhelming, I know.

You'll feel so much better when you get off the food that makes you sick, and once you're adrenal's start working a little better you'll also feel better. I'm sure you're pretty tired between the allergies and the adrenals.

I feel for you, feel free to message me.

Could be a food allergy.  I have plenty of food allergies so I know what it's like.  The problem is you are also losing essential vitamins and minerals.  You should see a doctor if it continues.

WOW, I was just about to ask the same question.  I hesitate being 'very active' because I am totally sedetary at work, but I work out a lot.  I always thought I was 'moderately active' but I think now I may switch to 'very active'.

Kittiekee - what's the salad dressing? I'm interested, it's hard to find GF and sugar free.

They do hide gluten in everything. I'm happy that Rice Chex is GF now and most of the others are going to be GF by June (corn, cinnamon, strawberry, chocolate), I can't wait.  I also heard that Duncan Hines will have 3 GF mixes out soon too (I think by August), choco chip cookies, brownie and chocolate cake.  Of course they will add one ingredient that I can't have but it's a great thing when these big commercial companies start to make some GF food.  Just hope the gluten is low enough to not cause a reaction. It's all trial and error at some point....

I wish that they knew more about this stuff when we were little too...

I found Gluten-Zyme at Whole Foods, if you don't have any Whole Foods near you, Google it I know you can buy it online. It's some kind of enzyme and it's also dairy free.  I would say yes that it is harder to lose weight simply because I should be underweight with my food limitations!  Plus I think since we are limited to certain foods that we don't have nearly as many low fat options as others do. Oh, and I just found out my thyroid is low, that could also be why it's harder to lose weight for me.  So, maybe the thyroid meds will help.

I seem to have a lot of immune and malabsorbtion problems from celiac.  Lots of vitamin deficiences as well as bone loss.  I know other people who don't eat gluten and they are fine...not me.

Do you find that your reaction to gluten gets worse every year.  I'm afraid one day I won't be able to look at it.  I can't tell you how often I gluten myself and I can't figure out where it came from.
