| Health & Support | Struggling to begin! (Just discovered I ate 3000 calories today!) | May 04 2009 17:41 (UTC) |

Hi Blinx! I know what you are going through! My goal is eat about 1500 calories a day to lose a healthy pace and not be super hungry. I would have one or two days that I would eat more than that depending on what I have that day. If, for instance, my work friends and I go out for lunch and I overeat, it automatically becomes a cheat day and I don't bother counting for the rest of the day because I guess I didn't want to know how much I was eating. Well, last week I logged my food on a cheat day and holy moly! I ate 3,000 calories!! I felt so disgusted with myself and then i realized why I hadn't been losing any weight :p. Now, I have used this to my advantage. It was so easy for me to eat that much food. That had me wondering how often I did it! Now, knowing how easy it is to eat almost a pound in calories of food, I use that to deter myself from making bad choices. For instance, instead of "Ohhh that pasta looks sooo good! I guess just one extra helping wouldn't hurt anything! Well since I had some extra pasta, a cupcake won't hurt either." Now I say to myself, "Okay i need to control my portions because before I know it I am going to be eating 3000 calories again!" One other tid-bit, in respect to junk food and real food (fruit and veggies, ect) you can eat a whole lot more real food for the same calorie consumption as a small junk food. If you want more to eat with the same calories as a small junk food snack then take the healthy choice! I hope this helps a little! "If you feel discourages always remember, it may not happen in a week, maybe not a month, but eventually is better than never!"

| Weight Loss | Eating ONLY when my stomach growls...is that ok? | Mar 17 2009 17:19 (UTC) |
11 |
All it means when your stomache grows is that there is nothing in it. The growling sound is basically your stomach muscles moving around and contracting. If there is nothing in it then it gets smaller. If you google "why stomaches growl" you can get some explaination. But it generally can be as big as a gallon or as small as a fist. The noise it just your muscles. I have gone some days not hearing it growl at all and others when it does multiple times, I would not use it has a determining factor of when to eat. I would just listen to your body and eat when your hungry but eat within reason and eat healthy food. Then, the trick is to stop eating when you are full. |

It sounds to me like you need to up your calories a little. You need at least 1200 to keep your body going so when you add in exercise you should eat a little extra. I would try to eat around 1400-1500 daily, then your body won't want to conserve anything. |

148.4. Well it's good I guess, one pound less than last week. If I can keep a pound a week then I should be in good shape. I just bought a heart rate monitor so maybe I will get a better picture of how many calories I am burning during my exercises. |

Thanks for the reply! I don't really care what other people are burning I just said it that way to have it make sense. I was actually just curious because I do jog often and when I put it in my activity log they have walking and running catergorized as speeds. I don't know if the calories burned by the speed in which a person goes would be an accurate amount because, as you said, it would depend on the intensity for the person doing the activity. |

| Weight Loss | Do you have a reward in mind? | Feb 23 2009 15:06 (UTC) |

I think rewards are great! I don't usually pamper myself so my rewards usually involve that. When I lost 20 lbs I got a nice manicure and pedicure. My next stop is after another 20 which is when I will treat myself to a massage. Also, I am getting married in June so I want to look good for my honeymoon along the beach so that is my motivation! |

Today I weigh in at 149.0. I was a little frustrated as yesterday my scale said 147.4, but I guess I ate a lot of salty food yesterday and it is probably water weight. That just means that next week should look extra good! I'm just happy to be out of the 150s :) |

What helps my sweet tooth is Edy's real fruit ice cream bars. They have a variety pack so I get a choice of flavors. It's basically a creamsicle. I have the snack size so it is basically a normal size popsicle but it only 45 calories. :) |

| Weight Loss | have you hit plateau? | Feb 21 2009 17:55 (UTC) |
16 |
I have been on my plateau for about 5 months now. I have tried playing with different calorie amounts, exercise, eating 6 times a day, eating twice a day, and so on. Fortunately, I may have broken it just recently by eating about 1500 calories a day and doing cardio for an hour 3 days a week and weight lifting and cardio for 2 days. My exercise plan is no longer optional and I am allowed a cheat day once a week. The cheat day seems to tricker a weight loss, maybe because it shocks the metabolism? Anyways, I know it is no fun being on a plateau and it is incredibly frustrating. Just keep your chin up and find a new plan that works. Good luck!

| Motivation | Eating when bored!!!!! Stop the madness!! | Feb 21 2009 15:42 (UTC) |
66 |
I too am a boredom eater. What seems to have helped me is to keep my mind off of food. I used to come home from work and immediately have a snack, then another snack, then dinner, then a snack. Some days I would skip dinner and eat a whole bag of pretzels! I guess by the time I got home from work I was tired and didn't feel like doing anything but my mind says let's do something that isn't strenuous, let's EAT! So, how did I overcome this? I added an hour a day to my work schedule. Now everyday before I go home I workout and it is not optional. Just like how work isn't optional neither is my gym time. It is the only way I will continue to go. I mix it up though, cardio 3 times, weights and cardio 2 times in my 5 day work week. ' So, how does this tie into not boredom eating? Well for one, it is an hour or so less a day that I have the chance to snack, by the time I get home I start making dinner. I try to eat a moderate dinner so that I have room for a little snack or desert afterwards. I also only eat at the dinner table that way it is inconvenient to watch tv and eat at the same time. If I know I just need to take the edge off of hunger I go for a string cheese. It is one of the few foods that I usually don't still feel hungry after eating. I hope this helps!

Okay, well I am at 150.2 this morning. Now hopefully next week I will lose instead of gain so I can actually get somewhere with this weight loss. I know that once I can get it to start it will come off consistantly, but getting to that point is proving to be difficult!

Well, I have successfully found my way back to my original weight of 153.4. But then again I'm sure I have a lot of water weight due to the Superbowl last night. I've really got to find what works for me and get my weight off! |

| Weight Loss | Losing weight for a wedding? | Jan 29 2009 17:57 (UTC) |

Hey Garvery125 (Your first name isn't Kristy is it?) Anyways, I am a bride-to-be for my June wedding and I have been on my prewedding diet since July. I'm down 20lbs with 15 to 20 more to go. What I have found very helpful is eating 6 times a day with a variety of foods. For instance, at 8am I eat a bowl of cereal (just one serving and I have a food scale to be precise), then at 10 I eat an apple or banana, then lunch at noon I have easy mac, healthy choice soup, or ravioli, at 2 I have carrots or pickles, then 4 I have a sweet treat that is low cal (right now I eat a little pouch of Murray's sugar free chocolate bites) they help with chocolate cravings and they use splenda, they're pretty tasty! Then I have dinner at 6ish and eat however many calories I'm allowed and try to leave room for a small dessert if I"m in the mood. The best part about this plan is that I never feel really hungry and incorporating fruits and veggies helps me feel healthy. I hope this helps and remember, weight loss IS POSSIBLE! |

I'm in! I can give my beginning weight tomorrow. I want to lose 15 lbs in 3 months, that sounds okay doesn't it, 5 lbs a month which is a little over a pound lost a week. I just started up on my cardio routine for 20 min a day 6 days a week. I'm about 152lbs now I think. What should we make our end date?

What always helps me when I get hungry and can't seem to stop is eating a string cheese. I seem to always have a string cheese after dinner to stop my craving to munch of food all night. I guess it is just satisfying enough to make me stop eating for the night so long as I eat it in place of dessert. Not too bad since it is only 60 calories! And it is okay to overeat by accident occasionaly. I overate tonight, too many potatoes! Anyways, what is important is that you get back on track tomorrow and try to keep your goal in sight before you begin overeating again. Good luck! |

| Fitness | no workout for me, can I still lose weight? | Dec 09 2008 23:01 (UTC) |

Something you might consider is to jumping on a mini-trampoline, also called rebounding. It doesn't put strenuous pressure on your joints and bouncing motion works with gravity to impact all of your body. You can lightly jump or jump to music. This is what I do twice a day, although I am not injured, it is fun to do and works up a sweat! I just have an inexpensive one from Walmart, maybe in the near future I will spend more money and get a better one. Just for starting though I didn't want to spend a bunch of money until I know I'll stick with it. You might consider this an option though as there is no hard impact against the ground. Hope you heal up soon! |
