| Fitness | pelvic bones!!! | Jan 29 2009 22:15 (UTC) |

Oh my God...I always thought I was disgusting for having jutted out pelvis bones and jutted out collar bones (I'm always covering them up with necklaces and I'll be letting my hair down alot), I had visible collarbones even when I used to be overweight as a teen, those hip/pelvic/whatever bones started jutting out when I reached normal weight...it's weird...I hate it...I actually would like exercises to help cover it up with some muscle or something (after I'm done losing some of the fat I want to lose)! Is this possible? I'm not even thin, not fit at all, just very average, and I wear a size 8-10. |

Thanks for the input and tips everyone...and nope no stairs :( and no kids either hehe...I used to do step ups on our stairs before we moved to our new home...I'll just have to make do with what I have here now and do the exercises I'm able to do with my dumbells...I'll try Melkor's tips with using the huge plastic bottles filled with water as my dumbells, when the weights I'm using become too light for me that is, I can't be buying new dumbells or equipments since I'm moving abroad real soon (in about 6 weeks or so) to further my studies and I won't be able to take them with me, it would be a waste...my first fitness goal is to graduate to doing real push ups...I can barely do one now....I'm joining a gym about 2 months from now once I start Uni, there's a gym there thats only a few minutes walk away, and by then hopefully I'd be strong enough to lift heavier and do atleast 2 real push ups...also there'd be trainers at the gym to guide me with the work outs. |

Thanks Amethystgirl...The exercises I can do are quite limited...since I'm not a member of any gym...I'm planning to join one sometime in March....for now, all I've got is a pair of 5 lb dumbells, the wall and the floor...lol....well there are a couple of sturdy chairs and tables around too...I'm not sure what pull ups are As for the lunges, I used to do them but they make my knees hurt...so I'm sticking to squats, I tried to do step ups too but my table is a little too high and I almost fell over doing it hehe...so I'll wait till I get to a gym I guess...I'll add in the dumbell deadlifts and rows though, those I can do...thanks again for your suggestions. |

| Weight Loss | If heavier people have a higher BMR/RMR why do skinny people remain skinny without exercise? | Jan 28 2009 23:10 (UTC) |

My 18 year old younger brother is kinda like that...he's the classic ectomorph...he's underweight and very small framed...he's so skinny you can see the 6 pack on his 27" stomach...no kidding...he's not even muscular or anything...it's really hard for him to gain weight, but he starts losing pounds when he gets the flu or start moving around for a few days, when it gets real bad he gets almost as skinny as Christian Bale in The Machinist...he eats lotsa junk and has fast food for dinner every single night, infact he's addicted to BK's Whopper and KFC...he doesn't really move much either, is really lazy, and he doesn't even like sports, even though he used to be hyperactive as a kid. It's so weird, I just checked my brother's BMI and it's around 17!! The crazy thing is, while he's underweight and has a super speedy metabolism, his two sisters are obese, and the other one (me) is a struggling average girl, with a very average metabolism....weird.... |

I started doing lots of lunges and squats with 8-10lbs weights a couple years ago...and in six weeks my butt was fuller, rounder with less cellulite...I loved it, and my bum was starting to really rock those tight jeans...my bum isn't really flat to begin with, I've just always wanted a bigger fuller butt with less cellulite...only problem was my knees started hurting and my neck and upper back started getting a little bulky...it's weird...I don't know if it's just me, but that kinda scared me so I stopped :( I'm back to strength training now, this time I'm doing squats with lighter weights (I do use 3-5lb weights for the other upper body exercises), and I'm leaving the lunges aside because I'm afraid it'll hurt my knees. I get a pretty good enough full body workout with 3-5lb dumbells 3 times a week, I know because my glutes, quads, hamstrings, triceps, biceps, etc...they all get really sore the next day! Maybe it's because I haven't exercised in a long time? |

Thanks Melkor....The walking is for about 2.5 to 3 hours a day, alternating between slow leisurely strolls and moderate-fast paced brisk walks. |

I hate mixed gyms...it should atleast have a women's only area...it's distracting and annoying....pervy guys who stand and gawk around at everyone, trampy women in designer hot pants and full make up. Lots of them don't even come in to actually work out, they just hang around there taking up precious gym space just so they can impress the opposite sex, flirt, date, gawk and flaunt. It annoys the folks who go there to actually get fit. It's alot more comfortable when it's all ladies, I just feel alot more at ease and enjoy my workouts alot more without interruptions...the atmosphere is just so much more relaxing, I can let my hair down, get down and dirty with my workouts, without having to mind if my boobs are bouncing a little too much. The ladies are so much friendlier in the ladies-only section...probably the sisterhood thing like the previous poster mentioned, and the really fit and hot ones are really sweet and they give me lots of work out and diet tips on how to be more like them. It's annoying to have males checking you out or trying to hit on you when all you want to do is hit the machines and work out. Oh well...I've only been a member of one mixed gym in the past, then I quit, and put on weight...blegh...maybe it's not as bad at other gyms. Still, I'll always prefer a ladies-only gym. The one thing I do find annoying with ladies-only gyms is that they tend to overemphasize on aerobic type exercises and underemphasize strength training. Anyways, I've said enough :p good luck to you girl :D You'll do just great!!! |

| Fitness | Expert needed for body fat % and large breasts? | Jan 10 2009 05:35 (UTC) |

A trainer friend of mine told me she's never seen females with less than 23% body fat having bigger than B cups...so yeah...I mean, every woman's different...some fat in the boobs or in the butt are not bad. Just because they say 20-22% is the ideal, it doesn't mean it's true for every woman...Breast fat surely isn't as bad as stomach fat! We're all built differently and carry our fat differently, a woman at 24-25% body fat can actually look hotter and fitter than a woman who's at 20% body fat...depending on her weight, frame size, body shape, fitness level, where she carries her fat, etc. Better to just trust your measuring tape to track your progress. The good news is that women who naturally carry some fat on their boobs do not have to go too low with their body fat % number to see good results....I mean, hey, better in the boobs than on the stomach or thighs.

| Weight Loss | Confused about how much I should be eating? Am I eating too little? | Jan 09 2009 20:40 (UTC) |
|
Thanks gi-jane :) I'll keep my calories at around 1400 a day then! I was afraid I was eating too little...I'm not in a big hurry to lose weight, though I'd like to be able to see small changes every few weeks...I was eating at 1300-1350 a few weeks ago, and lost 1 inch off my tummy, 1.5 inches off my waist and half an inch off my hips and bust just a couple weeks later...I was really thrilled...but I was afraid of losing muscle mass as well because it happened so fast. |

| Weight Loss | BMI overweight? | Jan 09 2009 05:49 (UTC) |

A better indication as to whether you are overfat or not is your stomach measurement...if your stomach is 33" or larger than chances are you're too fat and you need to lose weight. Also you might want to get your body fat % checked out. I know many people who are the exact opposite of you...they have seemingly 'good' BMIs of 23-24 but they wear size 33, size 34 jeans, that can't be good at all. Me myself, I'm pretty small framed with less bone and muscle tissue, so I'd be overfat at a BMI of above 23.5...some people have heavier bones, wider body frame, and more muscle tissue, so they'd naturally be heavier even though they might be wearing the same dress size as someone who's 'lighter' than they are. There's no way you need to go down to 118...you're already a size 4 now, and that's my dream dress size right now...when I had your stats I was around 132 pounds, and I'm 2 and a half inches taller than you are...if you're gonna lose anymore weight, don't lose more than 10 pounds. |

| Foods | Tuna tuna tuna | Dec 13 2008 04:23 (UTC) |

I eat tuna almost everyday...I never thought tuna would ever taste good without mayo before I started my diet...but I tried mixing a can of tuna (drained) with low-fat/skim yogurt and abit of mustard. If you're using a large can of tuna then you add in about 100-180g of skimmed yogurt, and 1-2 tablespoons of mustard, depends how 'mustard-y you want it'. I add in abit of 'sweet n low' as well...about half a packet (it's too tangy without abit of sugar, so I really need just a little sweetness in there)....then I dice in some chilli peppers and tomato, you can also dice in cucumbers and onions too...so it tastes all tangy, sweet, hot, sour, creamy...very yummy and flavorful! I use this as a sandwich filling...extra yummy between two hot toasted slices of your favorite wholegrain bread. I love it!! |

| Fitness | Help! Want to drop fat, but don't want to do lower body workouts | Dec 12 2008 01:48 (UTC) |

Thanks for your replies :) I am thinking of putting off the squats and lunges until I can actually get someone to teach me how to do it in proper form. I'll be able to join a gym in a couple months then I can do those exercises under the guidance of a fitness trainer, right now I'm pretty much stuck doing my work outs at home. When I do squats and lunges, the soreness I get is on the butt and thighs, not just that, but my knees would be aching too. I'm afraid I'm not doing it right. I don't want to hurt myself this way, other than having it interefering with my cardio. I really don't want to do it alone. The upper body exercises and ab exercises are great though, the soreness I get from those don't interfere with my daily cardio so I'm happy about that. Oh and I'm lifting 10 pounds for the upper body workouts...well that's 5 pounds per dumb bell hehe.... For my cardio, I'm doing interval training, 1 minute running 1 minute jogging...not exactly HIIT...that's abit too advanced for my level of fitness. I actually only recently gained weight, just 6 months ago I was 132 pounds and 27% body fat...I went through a huge loss and was severely depressed after that, barely moved, just sat in bed and ate...and tada! here I am, 10 pounds heavier. I only recently started picking myself up again, and I'm just trying to move around as much as I can, walking, jogging, running around, jumping around, whatever it is, just to atleast get back to where I was, just to get my activity level up so that I won't fall into the 'sedentary' category...I never really did lift weights before, but I used to do some running a few times a month, and I did alot of walking...so I'd say I was 'lightly active'. Sorry that was long...I really want to lose weight and fat the right way while holding on to as much muscle as I can. At the same time I really need my cardio because I need to move...when I move, I stop thinking, and it feels great. It kinda sucks to even miss a day of it :( |

| Weight Loss | Perfect stats 36-24-36 obtainable? | Dec 10 2008 11:08 (UTC) |

hey chelseagirl, it seems like you're more Beyonce than you are Jessica Alba...you should just embrace your curves, lots of flat hipped ladies would love to have round hips...every woman is different...even Alba doesn't have a 36-24-36 figure, I read somewhere she's 34-25-34...she's hot and fit for sure, but her figure is abit on the boyish side...so there you go. It's pretty impossible for you to get your hips smaller while still being at a healthy weight, unless you get a lipo done, and you really don't need that. |
