The Lounge Do Vegans eat Organic Produce? Aug 26 2009

Well, that's the way nature intended. I mean, I wouldn't have liked to come out of my mom's vajayjay, but really, there was no choice, was there? Making things artificial, and "clean" only ends up harming your body in the end. Everything grown needs to have a source of nitrogen...and fertilizers, natural fertilizers provide a good source.

I'm a lacto-veg, and I dont eat gelatin, or other animal products, but I have no problem with naturally grown produce, and in fact, I eat non-organic food too. But do realize that you're getting grossed out but the essence of life itself...everything's recycled! Plus, do you know how hard it is to artificially make nitrogen? I learned that in Gen College Biology class. I'd rather have some nitrogen extracted plants, then carcass. Cheers!

Vegetarian Rant: Why are chips okay but not chickpeas? Aug 26 2009

LOL, I thought this post was going to be a different thread..like chickpeas have been discovered to have meat by product! I was just eating them so I was in my "WTH stage?" heheh. Yea, Im sure as vegetarians we all have had those close-minded individuals who scrutinize our "healthy" choice but then shove some garbage down their throat and go, "MM" like we should be envious.

For me, it is combination of reasons 1) I was 12 when I started exploring PETA websites 2) Im in a more spiritual sect of my religion which forbids meat eating, fish, and eggs 3) health reasons

Whatever reason you have, to the new Veggies, pleeease do not be "ashamed". There are many many individuals envious of your self control, compassion, and conscientious choice. My family still applauds me to this day, needless to say they're Pro-Veg!

Ur damn lucky!Tongue out I've heard men shed fat much quicker... but it might be what others are saying about the lower level of sodium contributing to less water accumulation in your body. Anway, personally I've observed that if I'm slightly hungry before I go to sleep, I'm guranteed some number change on the scale. Good luck getting to your goal...we have about the same goal weight right now, heh

Weight Loss I think my husband's a little *too* supportive of me!! Aug 19 2009

Ditto! My husband is the same way. But after I've expressed that he can't make a bit of weight gain trivial, he's more accepting of my weight woes. Now, he's more encouraging of eating healthy, but still he tries to make excuses for my weight gain, which I know in my right mind, are plain old excuses. He offers one like, "you're just bloated" "you drink alot of water" "it'll be back down tomorrow". Sometimes he's right, but it's still a  battle, and in the end I'm sure they will be supportive no matter what. One time I asked if he would still be attracted to me if I was 300 pounds, and he replied "I'd love u, and still do u". To this, I kept on admently saying that it was not possible...n he finally broke and said "250lb max, happy?" Lol.

Weight Loss How many shorties are hourglass figures and losing weight? Jul 28 2009
22:14 (UTC)

Hey! Your sounds about the same routine I was doing...but here's the shocker, I've become lazy! heh. I've stopped going to the gym regularly, and eating/scarfing down everything I stopped eating to lose weight. Now, in a matter or 2 months, I've gained 5 pounds Cry. I'm determined to start a normal routine back up. Thank you for sharing your routine, I feel like yours is something I can actually maintain, bc when I do cardio, I feel like it's all or none, that's not really a good attitude to have. I'm hoping to lose this excess right back in a month.

Thar's really good advice...I've been having too many cheat days(with getting married this past weekend and all), but I have such a sweet tooth. I feel like my weight goes down more when I workout with weights but also my hunger level is more extreme. I'm also concerned about maintaining weight loss...do I have to keep going to the gym 4-5x a week to maintain?

Of course, I work out, I do weights(80 pound) smith machine squats, I do free weight curls, chest press on machines, raised situps, but if I stop for longer than a 2 weeks, all the muscle tone is gone and plus I do cardio too(3-4x 45minutes level 3 elliptical). I wanted to hear some variation in exercise routines...

Weight Loss Jealousy May 15 2009

HA! One of my old High school friends turned into a major biaaa(she likes to surround herself with "fat" friends to look skinny n get hit on). And another friends was so jealous, she had a dream of me looking good in a two piece bikini(weird!) and all the guys were hitting on me and pay no attention to her.

It's so funny to see how jealous girl's moms even get!!! They'll tell their daughters to start losing weight like me. It's crazy because I'll take my friend that wants to lose weight to the gym with me, but she's not serious about working out...I just don't get why if certain ppl are my supposed friends, why they would want me to look bad. Whatevs, it shows ppl's true colors.

I know how u feel! I've never been able to wear spaghetti straps or tube tops or even those girl cut armpit showing shirts because I'm so self-conscious! Only thing I've seen help is when I lose a couple of pounds...I've tried to tone the area but my problem is more in the pit. Heh. Everywhere I've read it's just said to be "genetics". Sucks to be us =(

Vegetarian Vegan and Engaged! Apr 09 2009

My fiance and I are both Lacto-vegetarians(he was born veg. and I have been for 9 yrs now). We have about 60% vegetarian guests (70/150 ppl or so) for our wedding in May...the hardest part was finding a banquet hall (that's not indian food, love it but  we eat it too much) and could understand that we wanted veggie sumptuous food, not just salads! Some of my bridesmaids scrunched their nose up as to what guests "wanted", and I just replied that  we are not a restuarant and if ppl can't eat a good vegetarian meal for a night, they shouldn't feel bothered to show up.

So, we had our tasting (yesterdat), I originally wanted gnocchi with seitan in red pepper pomodoro sauce, but I got something else better (eggplant parmigiana with pomodoro sauce with grilled seitan, green beans, and red potatoes). His mom is a wedding cake expert so we are getting a 5 layer egg free wedding cake with beautiful henna design =D

I know how it feels as a vegetarian for them to feel left out and hungry(my own experiences include choir trip to Hawaii--a luau with nothing to eat! weddings, proms!) I've went to two weddings where the servers just brought us steamed veggies when the bride/groom specifically ordered veg. dishes to be prepared.

Anyway, one of my closest friend is engaged to a carnivore(she was born veg. too), and her parents can't understand how she does it. I use to date a carnivore for close to three yrs, he had to brush his teeth after eating meat, and be4 kissing me...it became repulsive to watch him eat bacon. Now that I think about it, I love how passionate my fiance is to vegetarianism, and he's like arm candy to prove all those non-believers that vegetarian men can be buff. I'm not suggesting that you dump ur guy and replace him, lol! He'll come around to being more open minded because of ur good influence. I've lived with nonvegetarians and after awhile, they'll see how good veggie foods could be, and their tastebuds will come toward yours!

Good luck and try to have a veggie wedding ;-) no need to be inauspicious by serving killed animals on your special day. Just a thought.

What more evidence do you need that carnivorous diet is a health risk factor? Come on, take off your blinders! This is exactly what I meant by cognitive dissonance. You're formulating excuses; anyway, I'm not going to shove any philosophy down your throat but it seems you were searching for some trouble. Factual medical evidence supports that meat, and animal product are risk factors to clogged arteries, obesity, diabetes, heart disease, even cancer (hormone fed meat products). I'm sure according to you and cigarette companies, there are "only correlations" between smoking, and health risks *chuckle*. And no offense to you but how vain of you to think that animals were put on Earth for YOUR pleasure...silly silly. So, does the sun and all the planets revolve around the Earth as well?? Directing to all moral hypocrites: It sure is ironic when Christians (love the TRUE Christians) overlook "thou shall not kill" and transform that into "thou shall not murder humans only". It's like people will use any excuse to diffuse common morality that should exist in our core. I just don't have the tolerance for close-mindedness.

REASON TO believe it's adversely affecting your health...wow, *takes a breath* My mom is an endocrinologist and 80% of her patients are avid meat-eaters; my dad's a medical researcher for obesity, and diabetic treatments. His research publications are numerous, and there so many links to health risks and consumption of meat. It's absurd when people think they can "cure" their lifelong mistreatment to their bodies by simply popping a pill or visiting a physician. I'm a future medical student and self-proclaimed health-conscious individual, so I feel like I carry some weight when I say that it is completely harmful to eat meat. You don't hear of world's health troubles caused by vegetarian diet ever, now do ya??We are no longer the barbaric animals we were. We can't have this constant "advancement" and try to dress up meat as healthy. It never was, and it never will be. The hunter/gatherers only ate meat on rare occasions: and that's if they didn't die from hunting. It seems we want our  proverbial cake and eat it too. The two don't mix. Artificially fed and raised animals, and processed food...it is all going to affect your health, whether you *believe* it or not.

I may be a vegetarian, but I'm not lacking the intellect, nor the physical health, so here to serve as proof. It's quite ridiculous to be in denial.

Hell, I could even go as far as to say, it is not "morally righteous" to be obese. It's overconsumption...people can be addicted to food, you know! It's the need to escape into desires, and succumb to any temptation, a sort of lack of self-control! Do I think everyone who is bigger overconsumes bc of their inability to have self-control. Not necessarily because sometimes genetics, and the enviornment(parents) affect your weight. Just a thought! let's not go further into philosophical debates. I can quote all the great thinkers, and intellects from BC as to why they're vegetarian but it wouldn't matter. One's choice has to come from within...how zen of me! ;-)

Someone on here explained that in Hinduism(certain sects such as Hare Krishnas), it is a regulation that you must follow, "no meat, fish, or eggs". I'm a lacto-vegetarian and I've slipped and ate products with eggs, but I can imagine the guilt that can result from it. First of, you feel like a hypocrite. Who is to say what is moral, it is you, the person you feel you should be that decides. A person can suffer cognitive dissonance when their ideal person doesn't fit their actions(classic example's smokers knowing smoking is bad but continuing to do it. they will change their behavior, or form excuses for facts they discover).

So, my dear flonklar, morality is what we make of it. To some, their religion guides it; to others, it is their own vow to not break what they find is morally repulsive such as eating flesh. Second, a vegetarian is one who wants to prevent the unnecessary cruelty and eating of another soul (in my beliefs, plants have souls too,so therefore I acquire karma but by offering it to God (yes, I brough the G word in), I'm doing so for only sustaining myself). In my beliefs, He says, "if one offers Me with love and devotion a leaf, a flower, fruit, or water, I will accept it.” He doesn't say yes go bring me a carcass, offer it to me, and then chomp it down. But, you must understand, someone who has tasted meat before, when in the mode of ignorance(drinking), they are under the influence of maya(illusion) that they would act in ways they wouldn't ordinarily do. The guilt IS normal. It is the culture you are in which decides what is acceptable and what is not. This is one form of answer for your inquisitive mind. No need to chastise someone for having guilt for doing something they feel is morally unacceptable. Maybe one day people will excuse eating human flesh as healthy and desireable (afterall, human meat is composed of the ratios we need the most). There are many biological evidence that supports that a vegetarian diet is best for humans. For instance, the length of our small intestine. And the fact that, most people can get their necessary protein for eating a balanced meal between red beans, and corn...go figure as to why Americans are not exactly the fittest.

Weight Loss 5'2 ladies, what size are you? Apr 07 2009

I agree with you Dominique!! I would look emiciated if I ever got to 110 pounds. My fiance would probably force feed me!

I'm 5'2" 134.6 pounds 38-26-39. 36D, and I usually wear a medium top and end up stretching the boobage area to the maximum. My upper arms are gigantic-- they look like they belong to a 200 pound woman!

I wear a size 10pants/jeans. They are usually super loose in my waist area but they fit over my thighs/butt so I just wear a belt to prevent any gap.

My wedding dress that I bought in late November was a size 10 but after having it taken in, I've lose more weight(got yelled at by my seamstress about how much money I'm gonna lose if I keep losing weight!). Anyway, I think that the skinniest I would like to be is 123pounds or so!

I think my ultimate goal would be 36-24-36! =D only bc I have the ratio to make it happen if i would just get serious n lose weight!

I've been a vegetarian for 9 years and honestly i use to have nightmares about me eating meat!! But i know what you mean about alcohol loosening your inhibition. it may be that you're craving protein so get great altnatives like tofurky dogs or go dine at a great vegetarian restaurant (seitan dishes) so that you can avoid slipping. =) It'll be OK. You just need to think about how eating flesh is really not your thing..
