You can't get Norplant in the U.S. anymore, not for years now.

To answer the OP question, if you started your period the same day it is highly unlikely that you are pregnant, but you definitely need to make finding a safe, effective method of birth control your top priority.

The Lounge Lap Band surgery,if they eat so little, y can't I?? Feb 19 2009

A person who has had gastric bypass is re-arranged internally and the same food rules/calorie rules/nutrition rules no longer apply to them.  They get a new set of instructions to live by and they are NOT easy.   As with any eating plan, surgery or no, it isn't only the number of calories, but the foods you choose within that calorie allowance.  But post-bypass surgery, your options are much more limited and you have to make nutrient-dense choices (and take vitamins) to get the most nutrition you can out of the tiny amount of food that your body can handle.

I've been in the medical insurance claims business in America for ten years now.  Most insurances will cover obesity surgeries now, but years ago, a patient needed COMPELLING medical necessity to have this surgery approved.  That included morbid obesity, which was defined as a BMI of 40 or being more than 100 pounds overweight, PLUS two co-morbidities (uncontrolled diabetes, uncontrolled hypertension, etc.) - the original idea being that surgery was too radical for mere weight loss, the intent was to bring about control or reversal of serious medical conditions.

But in America, popular opinion and consumer demand now control the medical field - drugs and surgeries and other procedures/devices are no longer moderated by the physicians.  People decide for themselves what they want, based on television commercials, and they will go to as many doctors as it takes until they get it, regardless whether it is in their best interest.

In answer to the original question, I used to wonder that, too, until my husband had gastric bypass (to reverse diabetes, which it did) and I discovered that with his small stomach, 400-500 calories worth of protein and 200-300 calories worth of vegetables was plenty for him.  but for me, it simply wasn't a lot of food.  Their calorie allotment based on WHAT they need to eat doesn't go as far.  700 calories a day doesn't go very far when you aren't allowed to have a big old salad, or much fruit, or diet soda (well, any soda), etc.

Young Calorie Counters How do you get rid of that stuff around your waist. Jan 20 2009

I've always been thick-waisted, even when I was in high school (many years ago) at my thinnest, I would get that little muffin top.

And now, at nearly 40, i am SO SO SO thankful for mid-rise jeans! (not LOW RISE!!)

jeans where the waist is a waistband and hits me right at the waistline just cuts that "blob" in half and makes it poke out even more!!  the mid-rise jeans hit me a bit below that pudge, which makes my waist smoother and not so lumpy and bumpy.

Weight Loss Doctors and nutrition - do you know how much training an m.d. has in nutrition? Jan 18 2009

Wow.

when I was in nursing school, OUR nutrition class was worth THREE credit hours!

ha, well that makes 2 things on my list never to trust to doctors.  never ask them about nutrition, and never NEVER let them try to draw blood.

I'm with kajikit.  It appears to be just the result of abandoning (by accident or design) healthy eating and exercise and adopting habits that do not nurture your physical wellbeing.

I'm not sure what you mean by "could this be diabetes" - do you mean that makes you feel unmotivated to work out?   Or are you having symptoms of diabetes? (excessive thirst, genuine fatigue, changing/diminishing eyesight, irritability) ... Does diabetes run in your family? (a strong indicator of your likelihood to develop it at some point.)  Diabetes is a medical condition caused by inadequate insulin production by the pancreas.  The only thing you listed above that might be an indicator is not "wanting" to get up and exercise, but that would really only be if you literally do not have the energy to do any physical activity.  I'm no doctor, but I'm thinking "no" on diabetes as a cause ... but be careful, because diabetes can be an EFFECT of this lifestyle you're leading!

maybe running competitively isn't your "thing" anymore, but you definitely should find some type of exercise that suits you.  your body is quite confused, I'm sure, wondering "what happened here???"  you need to treat it right and give it something fun to do!

i hate the idea of buying cute panties that i won't be able to wear in 20 more pounds.  same for shoes!!

for myself, the perfect reward for anything i accomplish, whether it be related to my weight, or doing a good job at work, whatever it may be is ...

A PROFESSIONAL MASSAGE!!

how many things can you think of that are TOTALLY decadent and self-indulgent, but still healthy and not fattening?

or buy yourself a CD, or get an awesome new haircut or color ... there are lots of non-food rewards you can find that will make you feel treated!

if you truly feel that you cannot manage your eating and your lifestyle, then the gastric bypass surgery IS ABSOLUTELY NOT FOR YOU.  but I think you know that.  manageing your food lifestyle is much more complicated and difficult after surgery.  (i've not had the surgery but I've had about 4 coworkers who have had it, with WIDELY varying levels of success, plus my husband had it almost a year ago.)

your post seems to be out of frustration and we all experience that but that is why we are here.  to vent and get support from other CCers.

i can't imagine you are seriously considering a deliberate weight gain and additional risk to your health in an attempt to obtain a surgical intervention that may or may not work for you.  you got some good advice in the above replies, i hope you seriously consider it.

Weight Loss Keeping secrets... Jan 04 2009

the number on the scale should not be important to him.  stop talking in absolute numbers with him.  whether it is how many pounds you weigh, how many pounds you've lost or gained, your BMI ... any of it.

next time he asks, tell him you've chosen not to be a slave to the scale anymore and that from now on you are going to judge your "progress" by the fit of your clothes, the way you look in the mirror, your energy level, etc.

if his TRUE concern is for you happiness and well-being (physical AND mental) he will accept this and that will be that.  good luck.

bypass surgery or not, if he is eating nothing but calorie-laden junk and still losing weight, it is probably due to other medical issues that have arisen.

just because you have bypass surgery doesn't mean you can eat whatever you want and not gain weight.  it WILL come back on.

in answer to your original question, though, just because he has noticed the weight loss doesn't mean he "kept anything" from you before.  maybe he didn't think you looked or seemed overweight at the time before.

The Lounge Christmas songs that aren't typical? Dec 17 2008
14:02 (UTC)
Original Post by gddrdld:

"The River" by Robert Downey Jr. - He wrote it and played it on the piano and sang it on Ally Mcbeal (tv show from 90's)...makes me cry..and I HATE Christmas music in general.

Oh my goodness, what a beautiful song!! I love love love it!! but he didn't write it.  Joni Mitchell did and it has been covered by about 50 different artists.

Well, there is a new Christmas song that I just heard this year, because my co-worker listens to a country station in the office.  It is by Faith Hill, called "A Baby Changes Everything" and I say it is not "typical" because when I first heard it, I didn't know for the first two verses that is WAS a Christmas song.  Sort of sneaks up on you.  Unique.

Oh, and "Merry Christmas From The Family" by Robert Earl Keen.  Nothing else like it.
