| Fitness | your favorite exercise DVD? | Jun 11 2009 20:49 (UTC) |

When I first started working out I used the Windsor Pilates DVD's and got pretty good results, it was challenging but not impossible as long as you don't have any physical conditions that would limit your ability to stretch. I have now upgraded to Turbo Jam and I LOVE it! Good luck in your search. |

Original Post by xohmyx: xohmyx, I used to live in a 2nd floor condo with the parking lot not accessible to the front door so I definitely can share your pain! Multiple trips were a pain in the rear especially when I had to carry 30 lb bags of dog food! Oh and the front door of my building could only be opened by key which meant having to drop the whole load to open the door! I'm so glad that's past me now! |

I typically go 1x per week and it's usually Monday evenings because the store I like to do my shopping in is closed on Sundays. I purchase lunch meat and fresh veggies a lot of the time so I must go weekly. I also try to stock up ever other week on meats when they are having good sales (recently I got the deal of a lifetime, 7.5 lbs of 90% lean ground beef for $0.61/lb, AMAZING!) I split them up into dinner sized portions and freeze them until we are ready to use. I try to plan meals ahead of time but it doesn't always work out so I may go back to the store occasionally during the week. |

| Foods | foods you thought were low cal...but aren't!! | Jun 11 2009 20:10 (UTC) |

Every time we chose a retaurant to go eat at I try to look up the menu, particularly the nutrition facts, before we go so I don't make the mistake of eating my calories in 1 item. I was shocked to find out the calorie counts in most dishes at the local restaurants in the area. For example, Outback Steakhouse, bloomin onions are approx 2,300 calories. I knew it couldn't be too low in cals because after all it is fried but 2,300, that's more than I'm allotted in one day! I think we need to remember though for things like nuts, peanut butter and most fruits and veggies is that they DO provide good things for our bodies so we shouldn't discount them or remove them just because the calorie count is high. I like nuts for a small snack in the afternoon before dinner, I feel this helps me curb my cravings for bad things! Usually things dense in calories leave us feeling full longer, like nuts, peanut butter, beans, etc so they are worth the cals spent! Happy Calorie Counting!

| Fitness | Workout schedule 5 days - sore legs - too much? | Jun 11 2009 15:59 (UTC) |

Make sure you are stretching before and after, I find this always helps me be less sore after a hard workout. I usually do a 20 min Pilates tape I have just for the stretching, always prevents me from being debilitating sore after horseback riding! I've heard drinking milk also but I can't attest to it! |

| Weight Loss | Need a little help... | Jun 10 2009 21:03 (UTC) |

Alicat 29, Thank you for the reply. I'm actually doing the Turbo Jam dvd's that include a lot of what you spoke of, one tape is just cardio but then there are others that I incorporate throughout the week that focus on strength training with weights and/or band or just body resistence and what's even better is I actually ENJOY the workouts! I had been following a meal balance of 50-60% carbs, 15-25% protein and 25-30% fat that I found while doing some searching on here but maybe cutting back the carbs and increasing protein slightly will help. I guess I just really need to find my "triggers". I do plan to keep on this train for as long as it takes but like everyone else, I want it now! lol. Thanks for the support, that's what makes this site fantastic!

I had thought about doing that but it's still difficult for me to get through the 40 to 60 mins 3x's a week so I thought maybe it was a little premature to consider. I will try it though, anything at this point! |

Axonic, that is truly inspriational! I've been tourmenting myself with this goal and wondering if it's even obtainable. I actually stated at 197 so I've had some success thus far but lately my weight hasn't moved. What did you do to make your goal weight by the wedding?

I tried on one like that at the store, it needed to be fixed in 1 area but then I tried on the gown I purchased and I really liked it. I would be doing the same thing but I won't have that chance, as soon as I get it it's off to the seamstress! lol |

I tried the a sample of the gown on, same size I ordered so I at least know what needs to be altered but that was in February and I have to keep looking at pics so I remember what it looks like, lol. Eden Bridals style # 584. Our reception venue provides the invitations as part of their package, we just have to go to the place and look through tons of books and select them. They had some online so I think I pretty know what I want. I wish we had someone artistic enough, that would be so cool and a real personal thing for memories. What dress did you purchase? |

No, I'm not logging on top of that, when I first started I did but then I quickly figured out it was wrong :) Congrats on yours as well! We are picking out invitations tonight so that should be a very long and daunting task, lol. And I'm freaking out because I just learned yesterday that my dress will not be shipped until 8/25 so it won't be received by the store until 8/31! AAAHHHH!!! I was not a bridezilla until I found that out, lol! Good luck with planning, so much fun isn't it! |

I'm currently set to moderate, is this too high? Honestly I haven't been losing 1 lb per week, I lost about 12 lbs and then it just stopped around April/May even though I continue to do the same thing. I figure I'll just continue to stay on track in hopes it'll go back to losing again.

| Motivation | I thought this was appropriate... | Jun 02 2009 15:28 (UTC) |

Thank you to all of those who backed me up and understood where I was coming from! Just to clarify, I wasn't trying to dredge up anyone's old feelings about their addictions, etc. I've never had an ED so I apologize for not considering that side of the spectrum. Next time I will certainly be more sensitive now that I know the kind of backlashing I will receive. For me fit does not even equal skinny, skinny I will never be (I'll be happy at 165lbs, I'm 5'8'') but healthy is what I strive for and that is what fit meant to me in this quotation. Keep up the good work on your journey, whatever they may be! |

I guess it's like anything, everyone interprets things their own way and for their own use. To me this helps me to "stay on the wagon". And as I said before, to each his own...
Next time I'll post with a disclaimer!

When you're fighting over a craving that will undo your whole day I don't see how it's negative. To me it says that being fit and reaching your goal is better than that 2 mins of satisfaction after you've given in. To each his own... |

| Weight Loss | Vacationing from the Scale? | May 28 2009 16:31 (UTC) |

Don't forget to also take your measurements! Sometimes the scale doesn't budge but you've turned some of your fat into muscle and that's something that also should be measured as success. I do it monthly and track my progress so I can look back and feel good about my lifestyle change and it helps me to realize that it REALLY is worth the battle. |

Honey Nut Rice Chex is where it's at. I don't recall the nutrition information off the top of my head but most time I end up bagging it up and using it as a mid afternoon snack. Good with milk too, I usually use 1%. Or my fallback, Rice Krispies with sliced banana! |

| Motivation | What made you decide to lose weight? | May 15 2009 14:58 (UTC) |
28 |
Initially it was my Oct 2009 wedding but as I sat and thought about ALL the reasons I came up with the fact that I didn't like the number on the scale. I refused to buy clothes that were larger, it hurt to bend over and tie my shoes. Fiance and I went to the Bahamas in July 2008 and when we got the pics back I was HORRIFIED! In the past I could "hide" the weight in clothes but these pics weren't holding anything back. I decided then and there that things needed to change. I have trouble staying motivated sometimes though but I'm working on that. I'm working out and counting those calories. Hoping to lose 25 to 30 lbs by September, I've lost about 12 lbs since January. Very slow loss but I'm happy with it! |

| Weight Loss | Eating right/exercising alot yet nothing lost! please help | Mar 13 2009 13:04 (UTC) |

Trust me hmartina we've all been there, it's not easy to accept that it will be slow process when we are constantly seeing advertisements for quick weight loss. I've had my ups and downs since starting in Dec 2008. I'm currently stuck, lol but I have faith that if I keep trying and working out things will happen. One thing I did forget to mention is that sometimes when you go into an exercise routine that's new for you your body will be gaining muscle which weighs more than fat so it could what's happening to you right now. Make sure to take measurements and just don't rely on what the scale says because they can be evil and lie (lol, that's my excuse!) I've lost inches since I've start which is what I guess keeps me motivated! My hips alone in 1 month went down 2 inches!! |

I'm not an expert but from just reading other posts like this and seeing the responses it seems that you are not getting enough calories to fuel your body for the workouts you are putting it through. Did you use the Calorie Target and Burn Meter tools on this site? If the body isn't properly fueled it's going to hang on to every last calorie. Check it out the tools and let us know how you make out. |

You are almost my twin also! I'm 5'8'' and started at 197 lbs in December. I can't wait to hit my goal, not quite as aggressive as yours was but I'm sure once I get down to the 150/160 area I'll want to keep going! Job well done and thanks for the inspiration. Can you share with us what kept you motivated and got you through the tough times?

I too am addicted! I have cut it out of my weekly routine, I drink water like crazy (about 5-7 bottles per day)! It wasn't easy but I just stopped buying it. I treat myself on Friday nights to a glass or two with my pizza but that's it. I truly do love the taste but I also budget my calories a head of time to be able to enjoy it. I'm not hugh on juice, coffee or tea so it doesn't really leave me many options which is why I think I fell to Coke, iced tea is another weakness of mine but I'm learning how to make it healthier so I can enjoy it more regularly. I usually drink iced tea for lunch and that's it, water the rest of the day. Good luck! |
