too much of anything is never good. just aim for balance and you'll be fine :)

Health & Support please help on advice with getting period back! Mar 17 2009

hey ashley, glad to see you're working hard at getting healthy! here are some things that i've found have worked for those trying to get their periods back:

  • make sure you're at a healthy weight, a bmi of atleast 20 will increase your chances of getting your period again and keeping it.
  • don't undereat! find out how many calories you need to be eating and eat them.
  • it's ok to exercise, but don't over-do it.
  • keep your stress level low.
  • make sure your diet is well-balanced. eat a variety of foods and try to keep them as nutritious as possible.
  • eat a good amount of healthy fats. avocados, nuts, olive oil, dark chocolate, salmon and peanut butter are all great choices :) but it's ok to indulge in a little bit of junk food sometimes!
  • drink tons of water.
  • most importantly, BE PATIENT!

snack ideas with peanut butter? um, i have a few favorites:

  • sliced apples with a melted peanut butter dip
  • peanut butter mixed in oatmeal
  • celery topped with peanut butter and raisins
  • cottage cheese mixed with peanut butter and some honey
  • peanut butter and jelly on crackers
  • 1 bread slice folded in half with a small banana inside and some melted peanut butter on top.. pb & banana hot dog!

good luck <3

ok then :) um.. i would go with the 116, because 122 would be your weight + the food you ate and the liquids you drank during the day.

it doesn't really matter which weight you go by. just weigh yourself at the same time, under the same conditions when you do.

Health & Support I don't know how to eat "normal" meals! Mar 13 2009

i also had severe problems with binging because i used to label foods as either "good" or "bad." i would fear eating oreos/sugary cereal/ice cream because i thought that would lead me to binge.. but then after i realized i would just binge on them when i wasn't incorporating them into my diet i stopped. now i eat whatever i want, just not all at once. depriving yourself doesn't necessarily mean you're not eating enough calories, it can also mean you're trying to avoid certain foods you truly enjoy. do you eat cereal, granola, ramen noodles, peanut butter, etc during the day when you're not binging? if you don't, you really need to force yourself to do so.. because you'll just keep binging on them. trust me, it's the only way i've gotten out of the cycle. tell yourself that you're allowed to eat anything you want.. but that you need to have balance. eat noodles today, then peanut butter tomorrow, cereal the next day.. when food is no longer seen as forbidden it actually loses it's binging appeal.

on a side note, a book i REALLY recommend you (or anyone who is struggling with binging) read is "naturally thin" by bethenny frankel.. it just came out this month. that book changed my relationship with food completely. if you get a chance, read it and let me know what effect it had on you.

best of luck :)

no, i don't need to lose weight and no i already got over my anorexia.. my recovery from it is what led me onto bulimia in the first place. the weight i've lost is from stopping my binging/purging behaviors.

Original Post by smwhipple:

Just stop right now and go back to your meal plan with whatever your next meal or snack is.  What you've done you cannot undo so just hop back on the wagon again, that's what will help you in the long run.

Thanks, but that's not really the reply I was looking for. Like I said, it's much easier said than done. Right now I am back on track, but it's taken me about a week or so. I just wanted to know if anyone whose had experience with this has found a way to recover quickly from the relapse cycle.

I haven't gained any inches (actually I've lost 0.5" on my waist) but I have gained weight. I don't know what to do then? I'm eating a well balanced diet... not too much of one thing, and doing a variety of exercise. Anyone else have any input?

I'm still confused... I thought it wasn't that easy for women to build muscle, especially as soon as I start working out?
