Maintaining Should I eat when not hungry, if I have yet to reach my required caloric intake? Apr 13 2009

I agree eat when you're hungry.  If you're worried about not getting enough calories have a calorific drink, make a smoothie or fruit juice.

Foods How many grams of sugar? Apr 09 2009

In the UK the daily guideline amount is 90g for a woman to maintain their healthy weight.  I usually aim for less than 50g.

I'm the opposite.  As a child I was raised eating healthy, balanced meals.  A few treats now and then, home made foods, not much processed food and was always a healthy, active, thin child.

I'm not now.  I'm over weight and because I chose to eat what I ate.

So you can't blame your Mum or anyone else, you're 24 yrs old I'm sure you could make your own meals and food choices.

BTW my Dad has gravey all the time and he's stayed the same healthy weight most of his life.

Weight Loss Yes Coffee or no Coffee??? Apr 09 2009

I drink coffee straight up, black no sugar, so I don't worry about calories from coffee.  I tried giving it up a couple of times, but just couldn't.  My mornings aren't the same without a cup of coffee, I even tried decaff, but it just wasn't the same.  I got headaches when giving it up, which should tell me

"I shouldn't be drinking something that gives me a headache when I give it up"

But I didn't listen.  I only drink 1-2 cups a day and the rest of my day I drink herbal tea.

I joined a challenge starting on Sunday that I found through my blog.  It's to eat a salad at least once a day for 2 weeks.  I love salads so this shouldn't be difficult, but the challenge is also to have a different salad and include certain food groups.

The daily guideline amount of sugar for women is 90g (in the UK) to maintain a healthy weight.  So 50g is fine and as vron082 says this includes sugar in everything you eat.

Vegetarian Meat eater needing advice on how to turn veggie! Mar 26 2009

I became a vegetarian about 3 months ago and like you loved meat.  I thought I couldn't live without meat.  I was wrong.  I have a much healther, varied diet now than I ever did before and have never looked back.  I couldn't be Vegan either (although I don't drink milk, I read up about milking cows and couldn't touch a drop after that) but I do get organic, free range eggs.

Weight Loss Does dieting make you miserable? Mar 26 2009

Nope.  I'm really enjoying my (I don't want to say diet) journey to losing weight.  I'm trying new foods I never thought I would, I became vegetarian and now have much more variety of foods.  I'm exercising and feeling great about myself.  I have a long way to go, but when I get there I want to be happy and healthy and to have learnt about healthe and nutriton.

Weight Loss What do you say when people comment your weight loss? Mar 26 2009
16:16 (UTC)
19

I just say "Have I?" I don't feel the need to annonce I'm on a diet because then it'll be "how much have you lost, how are you doing it?" and if you haven't lost anything there'll be comments, or if you're seen eating something (non diet food) there'll be comments.  People always feel the need to say "you look like you've lost weight" when they know you're on a diet, but if they don't know and say it I think they mean it.

I have 4 workout videos that I do 5-6 days and mix them up, so I do different ones each day.  That way I don't get bored of doing the same thing over and over and also I work every part of my body.

jaefuma,

The first time I lost weight I went from 189lbs to 129lbs.  All the way through my diet I hated my body, got mad at myself everytime I binged, wouldn't even eat a little peice of chocolate or packet of crisps.  Yeh I lost the weight, but I still wasn't happy.  I thought once I'd lost the weight, that's it I don't have to think about it anymore, I can do what I want. No worries.

And then I put all the weight back on and then some.  I'm now 212lbs, have lost 17lbs in 3 months, but I'm doing it right this time.  I don't hate my body, I don't care what other people think of my because I'm over weight and if I slip up, yeh I get upset, but I don't let it destroy my good work and get right back on that diet.

What I'm trying to say is you can think that losing weight will solve all your problems, will make you happy and that's it, everything's gonna be great and yeh you may be happier and healthy in body, but it doesn't always turn out that way.  Don't hate yourself, don't hate food and you'll get there in the end.  Enjoy the journey.

I'm more concerned about the calories burnt.  When I log walking on C-C for the same time it said around 400 cals burnt.  At the moment I have 1000 cal deficit, but if I only burnt 400 I'll have less of a deficit.  If I'm going to be doing this most days I don't want to be out by that much.

Thanks for the replies they're really helpful.  I do have some hand weights, a mini stepper and an ab trainer.  I meant large machines like treadmill, bike etc. sorry should've said.  Anyway I will do both alternating. Laughing

Another question, if I wear a heart monitor which tells you caloires burnt, would that work when doing the videos, or only if I'm really active like running?

Thanks gi-jane.

When you defrost them can you eat them straight away cold in salads etc, or do they have to be re heated?  I'm a real food novice and I know I ask the simplest of questions, but I have no idea.  I'm used to eating convenience foods.
