Hi All

Happy belated birthday Connie - sorry I missed the day - glad you had a great weekend with Bobby! He sounds like a dream.

Sue, I am so sorry about your mom. I will keep both of you in my prayers. I guess we are at the age where we are worrying about aging parents. Mine are moving in with us.

Tammy how are you doing with the Alli. Sounds like it is working well for you. I have been eating like crazy - stress does that to me - and I'm at my heaviest weight ever - too embarrassed to share the number. I need to get back on track, this forum was really helping. I need to do this.

We have some new members since I last posted, welcome.I'll get back this week and catch up on all the posts - it appears many are busy - hope they are enjoying a good summer.

I hope everyone has a great week.

Hi All,

Gosh, so much has happened. There are so many posts since I last visited.  Hi Daryl and Mervy. This is a great bunch of women and they have been so welcoming and supportive since I joined.

Connie, wow!!! So happy for you - sounds like such a romantic guy. I bet your short hair is sexy. Let us see it please. Congrats on the grad Sue. I certainly miss my children being my children. They done went and got all grown up with their own families. Love those grandbabies though.

I'll have to find the time this week-end to catch up on all the posts. Has Janet been around? Until then, "see you" later!

What is up with this weather? To be honest, at this point I would welcome a good old rainstorm/thunderstorm. We have had snow for the past three days. SNOW! Can you believe it?

I'm with Connie Truus, running even a minute sounds like a victory to me too.

Welcome Fudge!

Axe, I have a phobia of needles, so to be covered with them sounds like a nightmare.

Have a great week-end all!

Congrats Connie!

Well this is bad. Up 2.5 lbs. since I last weighed in 3 weeks ago. Tammy I need to try harder too. I must weigh in regularly and track my food. Like you Suz, I need to be more vigilant at night. Oh well, I am in this to lose weight and I will do it. GRRRR

Have a great Wednesday everyone!

Good luck Jasmine, on your surgery tomorrow! It's great your back Tammy! I hope you are feeling better soon. Speaking of feeling better, how are you Connie? Has that nasty old bug let you out of it's clutches yet? My weight loss endeavors have not been met with much success lately either. I sabatoge myself. But I will do this.

Yikes! I just ate a raisin bran muffin from Tim Horton's. A whopping 380 calories! Come on, it's bran. Serves me right, I need to check before I put the darn things in my mouth.

Hi All,

Thanks Jasmine, it never even crossed my mind. Great idea! I'll pick some up tomorrow.

Connie, I am glad you are feeling better. Truus, what do you call a large healthy breakfast. I usually have cereal or oatmeal, a glass of o.j. and may-be a piece of fruit. I should probably include a protein but I can't face it first thing in the morning.

Where is everyone else?

Hi All, Congrats to your daughter Sue. I am like you. It would be hard for me to spend the money to go on the trip if things looked bleak but this is your baby's high school graduation! Can you compromise a bit? Put a little of the money away and take a trip? By the way can you send some of your weather our way? We had snow again on Friday. UGH.

Axe, I'll take your 60 and breezy. What an amazing costume. This is a talented group of women.

Aly, I am so jealous of you. I've always wanted to zipline but never found the courage. Was it a blast?I'll settle for living vicariously through the lot of you.

Tru, I'd die if I ran for 2 minutes, 9? Enjoy your time with your sister. I'm just back from a visit with one of mine. It was great fun! Aren't those campaign for beauty spots terrific?

Oh Connie, I hope you are feeling better. My "hatred" for chocolate has not changed. Hate that it is so fattening. Why is it that the best stuff is so bad? How is your hair? Ready to post pics yet?

Good luck on your house Lucy. We are attempting to sell ours as well and while real estate has taken a downturn here as well, it hasn't been too bad in our province. I will miss the pool though. I love to swim too, Jasmine but lack the courage to wear a swimsuit in public. Maybe while Axe is working on a camouflage suit for Sue and Aly, she'll come up with one for me as well.

Janet, you have been very busy! I have a student teacher too. He is very young and really struggling. Which play are you performing?

Hi Everyone!

It is absolutely beautiful here Cool (notice the shades). I am sure we got to double digits today. I took my 2 year old grandson for a walk through every puddle we could find. He loved it! Me too! I have been doing well, keeping the challenge in mind. I don't know what tomorrow will be like. I'm cooking Easter dinner for a group of about 25 people. Many, I am sure, will bring chocolate. I HATE CHOCOLATE, I HATE CHOCOLATE, I HATE CHOCOLATE, nope doesn't work, now I am just fixated on chocolate, wondering what kind there will be. Honestly, a little pathetic. Okay, new strategy, one moment at a time, each moment I will tell myself to wait for 20 minutes before having any, when 20 minutes are up, I will say to myself, "Way to go! See you don't need that chocolate. Go another 20." At which time my dear friends and family will have me committed for carrying on conversations with myself. LOL

Have a great Easter everyone!

Hi All, Well Truus, for me it is all the above with the added sin of procrastination. Oh yeah there is also the mindless eating, you know the one, food is down the hatch before you even realize you've picked it up in the first place. It certainly doesn't help that everyone knows my weakness for chocolate and I am gifted with little chocolate snacks often. I also know that I really enjoy an active lifestyle when I am active but I get in a rut where I lack the gumption, willpower, energy, the something to get off my keester when I am home from work. And like Axe I'm an emotional eater.

Sue, I'm sure you are right. This week will be much better for you. College troubles for both you and Aly will soon be history, at least for now.

Connie, Connie, Connie, How are you doing? Are you any more accustomed to the new haircut?

And Tammy are you still walking regularly?

Have a great week everyone!

Congratulations Truus! That's great. Yes, I have a wide variety of sizes in my closet too. Some are pretty old and I'll never where them again but I want to fit them. What are wine leaves?

Congrats Aly on reaching the 120's. You and Tru have inspired me to rise to the challenge this week.

Hi Everyone!

Well it is Tuesday Aly - report in day. The challenge thing was a good idea. I wasn't super good but I kept the challenge in mind and I too, was good 75% of the time. Last night I was really bad however. It was so nice here, all sunshiny with the promise of spring, didn't I just mosey on down to the DQ and have myself a pecan mudslide, mmmm decadent. Are you up for another challenge? Let's eat healthy for the rest of the week and check in on the week-end. Who's up for it?

Connie I can't wait to see your haircut. I love Lisa Rinna's look.

Winterum sounds like fun. We do something similar. the kids have an afternoon where they choose culturally based activities to rotate through.

Janet, you're through Europe with students. Where do I apply for that job?

Sue I am sorry your daughter didn't get her first choice but perhaps choice #2 will turn out to be everything she wants in a college after all. I know about being a wreck. When my oldet left home for college I cried all the way there and all the way home. I tried so hard to be happy for him and I was, but itwas so hard to see him go.

Lucy, your trip sounds like it was very romantic. Ain't love grand?

Have a good week everyone.

Yay!!SmileSmile It's the week-end, finally. It's been a long two weeks.  Two teaching conferences, two parent nights, two nights of special family programming, all in the past two weeks. Wow! I just noticed, these are all in twos.

Thanks Tru for asking, I'm fine other than not having my eating and activity under control at the moment. I appreciate you asking. I need to take a page from your book and get my butt into gear. Sue, have you gotten yourself out of your bad eating cycle. I'm really going to try hard to do this. I went out and bought myself this jacket I've had my eye on, in a size smaller than fits. i'm hoping that will motivate me to lose enough to fit it. I know, I know, stupid idea.

It is finally looking like we might have spring. The snow is just beginning to melt and it is so great to go outside even though it is so slippery.

Yes Janet, like you I'm Canadian, born and bred. Now that your treatments are done and you are painting crazily away, how are you doing? Any sign of spring your way?

Sue,  Aly any news on the college auditions and Tammy how is the modelling competition going for your daughter?

Have a great week-end Truus, Aly, Lucy, Sue, Janet, Connie, Tammy, Axe, Suz,  and Newdays. Hope spring is showing her face in your parts of the world.

Hello All,

Enjoy your trip to Hawaii Aly. Glad the trainer is working out for you or rather working you out satisfactorily.

And Lucy enjoy your trip to Vegas. I'll live vicariously through the two of you.

Connie and Tammy, I hope you are feeling much better - less pain. Connie, your daughter most be so excited and anxious. Let us know.

Sue, good luck on your daughter's college audition. I hope you hear something good soon.

Janet,  How are your treatments going? I don't know about you but I've had enough of our cold Canadian winter. Thursday we got another 3 inches of snow. I WANT SPRING NOW!

Truus - your amazing -  so altruistic (HMM what does Truus mean?)

Axe - good luck with jury duty.

I hope things are going well for everyone.

I'm so stuck in a rut. I can't seem to get my eating under control. I've been gaining steadily for a little while now and I can't seem to control what I put in my face. My kness are getting worse and I know it is the weight. I've had chocolate everyday for several days, high calorie foods and everytime I tell myself this is it, this is the last time. Where is my self control? If you find it will you please return it to me? Sorry ladies - I needed that rant.

Hi All

Mandarin orange does sound yummy. What is kombucha? I love green tea. We have a cup of decaf each evening. It's a nice little ritual in this frozen north. At least there is no ice/snow/sleet storm. I'm supposed to take my kids skiing next Friday. They aren't too excited. Can't say I blame them. It's been hovering around - 40 lately. I sure hope it warms up next week.

Happy Birthday Aly!

Hello Everyone!

Aly, you are the smallest one there, just a tiny thing and that cold water didn't appear to faze you at all. How far did you have to walk in the cold in your wet clothing?

Tammy, I'm glad to hear your mom is doing okay. How are you doing? How is your back? What is happening with your treatments? I've gained a little too. I really need to stay with cc, posting, getting encouragement, sharing ideas, and recording my food intake and calorie expenditure. I'd like to move in with Truus for a while or join Aly and Connie backpacking on that island with low cal food packs.

Connie, it's great that your down to one cigarette after meals. Soon you'll be free of them altogether.

Lucy, your trip will be great! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that both you and J will be over those stubborn colds and infections shortly. Wow, have they ever hung on!

Congrats Suz! Its so great to reach those short term goals.

Janet - 1300 calories!! Wow!

Hi All,

What a super idea it is to exchange foods. Truus, that homemade muesli sounds yummy. I love porridge but not the instant kind, so I leave that for weekends when I'm not working and I can be leisurely about making it - I hate rushed mornings.

For lunch I enjoy salmon or cottage cheese and raw veggies, fruit and some yogurt.

R usually makes dinner - he's a great cook but doesn't have a clue about calories or fats. The dishes are irresistible so I try to eat small portions of the higher calorie dishes and fill up on the other stuff. A handful of almonds or walnuts before dinner helps a lot.

Have a great week everyone!

Janet, I just read your post- missed it somehow last time. Your cursor jumps around? Mine does that occasionally too. I never thought much of it - just that there was something wrong with my mouse. But it happens on any computer. Hmm I wonder.

Hi everyone.

Wow Aly! All the power to you. You're a better woman than I. You wouldn't catch me going through a hole cut into the ice, with or without my eighth graders. There isn't enough pina colada to entice me into doing that! It's not just the cold...the idea of being under a huge thick slab of ice gives me the shivers. No pun intended. Special Olympics is fortunate to have brave souls like you and your class involved. I just wish I could be there to witness it and to cheer you on.

I'm with you on the weight loss thing however. I need to kickstart this large butt of mine into gear and be more vigilant about what I eat.

Hello Everyone!

Belated birthday greetings Axe.

Sue, how did your daughter's audition go? The bar exam and the "I Love Lucy Show?" Hmmm.

Lucy, how is your daughter doing? Love your picture! Janet,  I hope you get over the flu quickly. Was Paul Blart funny? I'm sending warm wishes and prayers that your chemo  and radiation go well and don't have you feeling too poorly.

Tammy how is your mom faring? I love hat and scarf combinations/ so classic? I'm sure she looks sharp. Did your boy get over being sick? And yes, congrats on your Steelers. What a game!

Connie still waiting on you to come up north and do some major housework here. How is the not smoking going?

What a story Aly! The whole thing is amazing  but the company's response is just so tantalizing. I wonder what that was all about.

Congrats to Sue, Bev, Haiko, everyone who has lost weight or are holding their own.

Suz, my will power has left me too. Just got back from an overnight trip with a group of grade 6, 7, and 8's. I'm ridiculously tired and tried to combat it with a huge meal, then a chocolate bar, and chips and dip. In this corner, ladies and gentleman, the heavyweight eating champion... (the crowd goes wild). Truus, could I pop over with the others for great acceptable food?

Here are my ten random things;

  1. I am, somehow, the mother of two fantastic human beings.
  2. I come from a very large family and am grateful for each and every one of them.
  3. My large family calls me practical (I hate the term) but that is probably why even though I’m not the oldest, I’m the one they all confide in (I like that).
  4. I married the boy next door.
  5. I have three grandchildren, one of whom is sitting on my lap at the moment.
  6. I, too, am a dog person (love my dogs).
  7. Like Janet, I am a water witch too. Unlike Janet, I can’t tell how deep the water is or find metal.
  8.  I can’t wear watches, they don’t keep time on my wrist often stopping altogether.
  9. I’m still looking for my life’s passion.
  10. My secret dream since I was a little girl was to become a published author, to have a best seller – like Janet said, we can all dream. Anyway....

We love our "drama queen." How is it going? Cleaning is so much better for you than smoking? Hey when you're stressed do ya think you could come to my place? My house could use a good "cleaning like crazy." May-be your cats and my dogs could be friends (or may-be they would just tear the house apart).

Well I'm down 1.5 lb. this week. Finally, the last 2 weeks have only been .5 lb. losses.

Sue, I too hope the auditions go well.

It would be great to get together with all of you and enjoy an evening out, may-be a movie (sans the theatre popcorn- can't picture that happening).

Congrats on the weight loss and the "stick to it til I get there" attitudes. I sound like a broken record, this is a fantastic group.

Have a great week all. Adara

Hi Everyone!

I was out of town at a funeral Monday and Tuesday. My brother-in-law died suddenly. On top of that my son and daughter-in-law are going through major stress right now - praying they can work it out. They have three wonderful little ones. Anyway, reverted back to bad habits, eating too much of the wrong things and not exercising regularly. I really must learn to deal with stress without eating my face off.

Enough of that already. On the positive side, my granddaughter is spending the week-end with me. We just returned from the movies. She wanted to see Dog Hotel. I thought it  was okay and she really enjoyed it. Like Janet I enjoy the theatre popcorn. I overindulged however (what a surprise - said with dripping sarcasm). Back on the straight and narrow tomorrow, healthy eating, and moving  my body. Here is the odd thing. I usually really like eating well and exercising. I feel good about myself and I feel most successful when I do. Why don't I do it as a matter of course is beyond me. What I can't figure out is if it makes me feel good, why don't I use it to combat stress? When I was in my early twenties I ran when I was stressed. Okay now I'm just rambling.

Anyway the week-end is here. I hope you are all finding ways to enjoy it.

Thanks for all the info Haiko.

Lucy, it is so good to hear from you. I hope things begin to get easier now.

We had a balmy day here. It went as high as -2 C, that's 28.4 F.  I am so happy - can finally get outdoors for more extended periods. It has been between - 30 C (-22 F) and -40 C (-40 F) for about a month. Windchills have brought the temp to as low as -48C (- 54 F). It is supposed to stay warmer for at least a few days. The school I'm at doesn't close for weather, but often there are only a few kids in attendance. All my students are hardy and most come to school even under the most severe conditions. However, I went outside during break and could not convince them to join me. SissiesLaughing
