Hey, Y'all,

I'm so sorry I forgot to log in this week.  I planned to do it Thursday evening and got home so late and exhausted from parent conferences at school I just went to bed.  I had to get up Friday morning and do another whole morning of conferences.  I really don't mind the conferences, though, because I get to meet all the parents of my 98 students.  Coming to two conferences a school year is mandatory at the magnet school where I teach so I get to meet everyone.  The school where I taught last year had little parent support so I might meet 5 or 10 parents and that was it.

I had a small weight loss which I guess will count itself in when I log in next week.  Assuming I don't gain it back.  I'm having a hard time sticking to my routine right now.  After talking to y'all, I'm going to make my healthy menu and grocery list and keep plugging away.

healthmd, thanks for your support.  I know these things come and go and really, I've been so much better off for at least paying attention to my diet and exercise habits.  At least it's kept me from gaining which is what happens of course when I avoid thinking about it.

papa, congrats on your silver medal!  And thanks for keeping us in your thoughts.  Knowing there is someone out there rooting for me helps.

lory45, I'm thinking about arranging a one-time, belly dancing class for our ladies-nite-out bunch.  Usually we get together and eat so it might be nice to get in a little fun exercise prior.

caverlady, good job!  I'm going to try and channel some of your motivation for myself!

lilygirl, have a great vacation.  I hope it's rejuvenating for the mind and body.

Everybody, thanks for being here.  It's good to be connected by our desire to live healthier even though it might not seem I'm around much.  Thanks for the support.

Have a great week-end.

Good afternoon, Team -

Haven't been around much and wanted to say hi.  I've been sloppy with my food log and exercise but have been limping along.  At least I had a tiny loss this week after a gain last week.

So...I've got everything logged in for today and I'm heading out for a walk.  My next goal is to get into the 230s.  It's easier for me to focus on about 10 lbs. at a time.

Have a great week, all!  Eat healthy and exercise!  This includes me!Smile

My cat Zephyr likes to play with ice cubes.  She will pick one up in her teeth and carry it around the house, drop it, bat it across and around the room, then pick it up to carry it somewhere else until it finally melts.

Her sister Daisy likes to play with peacock feathers.  If I am not in the playing mood, she'll pick one up by one end and spin around and around watching it wriggle until she gets dizzy.

Good morning, everyone!

Hooray for Team Green!

I have to admit, though, I haven't logged my food for the last two days due to some kind of inertia.   Probably related to the cold - single digits here too - and my tooth problems.  I finally had a root canal finished Thursday afternoon.  I had to go to a specialist after my dentist tried and couldn't finish it last week.   I didn't eat too badly though since there weren't many temptations in the house.  Back on track today with every bit of breakfast logged in and supper already planned.

I hope everyone has a great day.  Stay warm!

r4eboxer-

Don't dispair, it'll come.  I know 'cause I lost 50 pounds a few years ago (before gaining it back to the pound).  I started eating healthy again on December 25, 2008.  I have over 100 pounds I should lose.  The first week I lost 5 pounds, the second week 4 pounds.  This is what happened when I was losing those first 50 pounds.  This week it looks like it's going to be 1 or 2 which is considered healthy and how I lost weight last time.  If I began losing 5-6 pounds every week, I'd eat more.  Don't pay attention to what other people say they're losing.  You're the only one that matters.

I just looked at your ticker.  You're doing GREAT!

Good morning, Team Green.

Let me shamefully say, "It's my birthday!"

I have invitations to eat out today and Monday.  I thought about avoiding it but instead I'm going to make it work.  I know I can eat out, eat well, and not stuff myself.  Tonight is Provino's (a great local Italian restaurant) then visiting with friends and munchies.  Monday is at Chili's with my friends from my twice-weekly pool volleyball game at the gym.  I figure I can look Chili's menu up on the internet and pick ahead of time.  Wish me luck!

I hope everyone is having a great day in honor of my birthday!  Wink

When you feel worthless and useless, it usually helps to take action.  There are lots of things you can do:  walk, read, volunteer, visit someone, get up and move.  Also, if you are truly broke, you have to take a hard look at your expenses, swallow hard, and make cuts.  Do you follow a budget?  You do not have to buy a birthday gift.  Can you skip a term in school and go back the following one?  Can you get a cheaper cell phone plan?  Can you cut down on any expenses like eating out?  Do you have cable TV?  Do not be late on your credit card bill or it will just cost you more money.  I've been there.  It can be miserable but it's often surprising what we can really do without.  The government has credit councelors that can help you if you can't get control of it yourself.   Best of luck.  This too shall pass.

Some food for thought:  Why do they call them 'nudes' and not 'nakeds'?

The Lounge Nude Modeling for Art Jan 08 2009
00:42 (UTC)
28

I did it and I was attending art classes at the school so people I went to class with saw me nude.  The professor (one of mine and a terrific working artist himself) was very protective and made sure visitors did not pop in - like one guy that wanted to take photos!  The first time I had to drop my robe, I thought I'd faint but then it was weird.  I really got into it - almost like meditation.  It was a serious figure-drawing class and the intense concentration from the student-artists was exciting.  I could relate to what they were doing because I took a lot of drawing, including figure drawing myself.  The money was great, the students were appreciative and I got a couple of nice drawings out of it.  Go for it!  People that don't get it may make remarks but who cares?

To refer to the earlier discussions, I found the experience of drawing the nude figure as well as modeling a sensual experience which I find different from sexual.  In both cases, I was hyper-aware of a number of things.    As a model: the air on my skin, the scratching of the pencils, the location of my limbs.  As an artist:  the curves of the body, the gradation of values, the proportions of the various parts.  The first time I drew the nude, I was nervously aware of the nakedness but the more I drew, the feeling became a completely different animal.  The challenge to do justice to the human body is humbling and exhilarating.  It added to my appreciation of figurative art.  I also find the human body extremely beautiful and fascinating.  That's just my view.

Vegetarian Tips on going vegetarian when hubby wants meat? Jan 07 2009

minda34,

Thanks for your thoughts.  It gave me some more ideas.   I, too, haven't found a meat substitute that tastes good to me but I can usually figure out how to get by without the meat.  We have several community farms (I actually bought a summer subscription and got some great veggies) and a Greenlife grocery in town so local meat is available.  I think it will be easy to add some changes that will make me and hubby happier about what we eat.

Just wanted to say good morning to everyone.  It was supposed to be the first day of school after Christmas break but the whole county was flooded out!  Never had a flood-day before.  And now the sun's coming out!  CoolAn extra day of vacation is nice and I'm going to make sure I get in a good walk to celebrate.  Hope everyone is well.

Hey, Wildntaken.  Take care of those ankles.  I've been walking my behind off this last week and mine and my knees are a little sore.  Ditto on having the right shoes.  The thing is, there are so many kinds, it's hard to choose.  What seems comfortable in the store, doesn't necessarily hold up under heavy use.  I had a foot surgeon recommend mine to me and they meet the particular needs of my feet and ankles but I never would have found them on my own.  By the way, they are called The Beast and are by Brooks, size men's 10 wide!.  I joke that I have duck feet.  My doctor actually wrote me a prescription for them and I get a slight discount for it.  I buy them twice a year and wear nothing else.  Although when I was 50 pounds lighter, I found I could wear Chacos while hiking and had no pain.  I AM going to wear my Chacos again.

Y'all enjoy your day.
