| Weight Gain | you SHOULD exercize when gaining | Apr 14 2009 02:52 (UTC) |

Original Post by personaltrainer87: Actually, unless your laying down, it can be considered "unhealthy" to sit all day long. Most people don't sit with proper posture, and if ALL you do is sit in ONE position, it can lead to back problems. Lying Down is different, the pressure is more evenly distributed. Ever hear about sedentary people with desk jobs and back problems? It's 'cause they sit too long in the wrong position. Point is, don't just sit in one spot forever, every hour or so, take a break to stretch everything out... not even a walk, just some mild stretching. |

In a sense, it can. Because if you're not sleeping, you're awake, and if you're awake, it can lead to eating and therefore to weight gain. But that's just minor on the lack of sleep effects. The one that really kills me is being too tired to do homework/school. |

Honestly, why do bars have such a bad rep? I eat them every. single. day. and my doctor is amazed at how healthy/fit I am. I'm a very active person, and a piece of fruit never just "does it for me". |

Depends on your gaining goals. If you're a body builder, (already at a healthy weight, just adding muscle), um YEAH you need to workout to build that muscle. Otherwise you're at a healthy weight. If you're underweight, and recovering from an illness, you shouldn't exercise without a doctor's consent. It may increase appetite... but, at an underweight level, your organs have been severely malnourished and you could potentially have a heart attack |

| Foods | How many grams of carbohydrates work for YOU? | Apr 11 2009 17:59 (UTC) |

Wow... do you guys even SLEEP? (those that go 25-30% carbs) When I was on an 1800 cal mp, I tried going 250g carbs (50%). After a week, I had the most horrendous headaches, and did. not. sleep. at. all. After I moved it up to 60%, the headaches and insomnia went away. Now I'm on a 2200 mp, and I go for 60% carbs, 15% protein (82 grams, which is plenty), and 25% fat. I don't count carbs, proteins and fats anymore, but just by my eating habits, it's always around these numbers. |

I don't know, right now I'm scared to let myself go, in fear of relapsing back into an ED. It's not overeating I'm so worried about, but undereating. A calorie goal on those days helps me stay focused. |

How much sleep are you getting? I can "get by" on 5 hours of sleep for a few weeks and be okay (well... for the most part). But after 5 weeks or so, I crash.... all at once. Point is, are you really getting enough sleep? Even if it's something you think you're used to, it may not be enough? Also, make sure your not anemic. Starting your period for the first time in a while could cause anemia, and fatigue is certainly a big sign of it. |

I'm 15 years, little over 5'1, about 101 lbs, female. I'm definitely not trying to lose... I do racing, so I guess my goals are to get faster? I do speedworkouts, endurance (bike) rides, swimming, weights, running (triathlon stuff), BRICKS... a big mix of everything. |

| Weight Gain | sodium intake when trying to gain weight? | Apr 09 2009 23:02 (UTC) |

Unless your eating 5000+ mg of sodium, I wouldn't worry about it. Those levels can cause edemna, which can be problematic. |

I know what your talking about, our school was active in it as well, but I didn't participate. With our school, we were able to drink as much JUICE AND WATER as we wanted- but no sodas, gatorade, meal-supplement shakes, milk, ect. Strictly juice and water for 30 hours. If your intaking juice, your glucose levels should be fine. I'd probably eat something like a sandwich on WW bread, with avocado and turkey, with a tall glass of milk. |

Original Post by valtorpublic: Thanks! It's not really a big deal... I KNOW there are different types of sugars, and was just wondering on the type. Yeah, I'll refrain from the Cashew Cookie Larabars (Chocolate Coconut tastes a MILLION times better anyway XD)... I don't think there's really a need for a doctor... it's not really THAT bothersome, kinda like the feeling someone who had gone years without eating meat went and got a big-mac. It's just a matter of me, well, not going crazy with sugar.... ie-moderation. |

1900 for your RMR- that's if you did nothing but lie around in bed all day. 1900 should cause you to lose with no activity, of course if you're exercising, you can eat a little more and still lose. |

| Weight Loss | Splitting my exercise up into intervals to make it less boring? Does it still work? | Apr 05 2009 13:16 (UTC) |
9 |
I've heard the term that when you exercise, you should be exercising for at least 20 minutes at the time to keep your hr up longer afterwards.... How about putting on some music while biking? Try intervals (for a bike) and "sprint" for the chorus of the song, and recover during the verses? Or, for one song with a nice beat, crank up the resistence for a climb. It'll make the 30 minutes MUCH shorter. |

Hm... I train for triathlons, so here's my schedule: Sun: 6 mile run, 30 minutes weights Mon: Spinning or bike ride (1-2 hours) and elliptical or run (20 minutes)- BRICK workout Tue: Rest Wed: Running interval workout... 1 hour 15 minutes Thur: Recovery Run (5 miles) +Weights (30 mintes) Fri: Tempo Run 4 miles + Running strides (1 hour 15 minutes) Sat: Swim (1 hour) Easy jog (30 minutes) Actually, most of those days are shuffled around, but I hit one of each day every week... if that makes sense (ie- "Monday" and "Thursday" workout may be switched)

Original Post by justice4me: Okay, then go ahead and take away the OLYMPIC SILVER MEDAL from Bridget Sloan and Alicia Sacramone (gymnasts). Yeah, they're all under or at 5'0 (not even 5'2) and weigh between 110-120. Yep, try telling them they weigh too much, 'cause after all, an Olympic Silver Medal means nothing when you're under 5'2 and weigh over 110. Sheesh. |

| Health & Support | started spin--bmi 17.2--eating back calories...ok? | Apr 02 2009 02:13 (UTC) |

I frequently spin... I think I started when my BMI was about a 17.1... basically the same as yours. In general, I started exercising at a really low BMI. I haven't had any problems with it. Spinning for anhour burns WAY more than 200 calories though... closer to 350. |

| Health & Support | what was your biggest binge? | Mar 30 2009 02:58 (UTC) |

Last (and first time) I binged was right before I became anorexic... kinda like my last straw. Anyway, it was 5 slices of pizza.... not a lot, but it was out-of-control. I didn't feel hungry to eat them, and I couldn't stop myself while doing it... I had lost control. That was over three years ago.

| Weight Loss | Why won't I lose any more weight?? | Mar 29 2009 03:10 (UTC) |

Age? And what's your weight? Wow... someone actually works out more than me (I go about 8-10 hours a week). What exercises do you do? (is it really hard exercise for those 90min-2hours, or just light walking?) Anyway, I lose on 2000... and I'm 5'1 and a little bit more. Up it up to 2000+ if you're working out that much. You're not eating enough. Also, it could be possible you've hit your set point, what BMI would you have if you lost 5 lbs? You likely have a very low BF% right now because of your exercise, 5 lbs off could easily be 5 lbs of muscle lost.

| Fitness | heart rate or calories burned-or both? | Mar 26 2009 00:58 (UTC) |
4 |
Both are pretty unreliable. Cardio machines aren't quite tuned right... I'd go with the heart rate though, that at least seems to be more consistent with my effort (it's higher the harder I'm working) than the calories burned number, which is pretty much rises at a constant rate regardless of my effort (for instance, if I walk thirty minutes on the treadmill, it'll be really close to the number shown when I run thirty minutes on the treadmill.) A heart rate moniter is best to track calories. |

Just want to point out: Also, a maintainence of 1600-1700 is quite low depending on your height, age, and activity. I can say for myself, I lost on 2000, going from ~100-93ish in around 5 weeks (albeit working out ~9 hours a week), and I'm a smidge over 5'1 (also 15). So likely, 1700 will be too low for maintainence.

10% is awfully low, most women die when they dip under 10% (except for some "mutants"... most of which are extreme iron-man athletes). My bf is around 14%, and I have definite definition... Usually, fit athletes have 12-20% bf, and regular women have 20-30% bf. It's only extremes that can have a bf under 12%, and most can't survive that long. And like I said, most women die if they dip under 10%. Cook rice in orange juice. I'm serious. Add in dried blueberries and almonds to it, that backs in tons of flavor, but you get in carbs. (but still the fruity taste you like). |
