| Weight Loss | Question for 5'9" - 5'10" females | Jun 20 2009 22:16 (UTC) |
5 |
Hi! I'm 5'10'' and was 150 (before my vacation last week) but it is easiest for me to maintain on 2000 cals at around 150 plus or minus 5 pounds. I would love to get back to 140 but it is harder for me to stay there and I have to eat a lot less. Even when I up the exercise I still stay at around 150 but notice less on the scale but more loss in inches. I exercise 5-6 times a week alternating running, yoga, and lifting. I feel like I don't care as much about reaching my goal weight as long as I see inches lost and feel strong and energetic. If you haven't already measure yourself (hips, waist, bust, thighs, ect) and keep track of inches lost as well. |

I don't have children but I love my little sister and I don't know what I'd do without her. We are almost 3 years apart and she means the world to me. Sure we fought like crazy but we also played nonstop. I still remember playing barbies with her, exploring, making music videos, dressing up, ect. We had and still have so much fun together. Your daughter is lucky to be a big sister :) |

That is a little crazy. It is a stupid idea because in most cases of death caused by knives or sharp objects women stab more often than men, but men tend to slash. So according to that data this knife is an ineffective for killing husbands. |

Original Post by nasuoni: Ha you took the words right out of my mouth! You are the beautiful one and do you really want to be with a guy who judges you so harshly? Congrats on the weight already lost... that is a huge accomplishment and if it's enough for you it should be enough for the person who loves you. In my opinion you deserve to be with someone who loves you no matter what size you are. Weight fluctuates and you want someone who will be with you no matter what; not the kind of guy who gives up for a bull **** reason. You shouldn't have lose weight to please him. Hang in there you will have no problem attracting men. You are very beautiful and I'm sure there are a lot of men out there who love the way you look now. |

Original Post by unhappygirl17: I'm not trying to bash you but aren't you one of them? I looked at your pics and you have at least 7 separate bikini pics up and you look fabulous in all of them! I understand the extremes you are talking about: the girls who's bones are sticking out at sharp angles, who run 8 miles a day everyday and freak out when they eat over 1200 cals. I think it is more sad than annoying. I am currently at a healthy weight but i yo yo like crazy and I use this site to get back into a regular exercise routine and normal healthy eating. Sure I want to lose a few more lbs but all my goals are in the "healthy" range. I like to post pics of myself as motivation. ie I look good at this weight and my CC friends can see the progress that I've made. |

I just don't understand why people are so offended/pissed off by a little nudity. Naked is natural we should be pissed off that we have to wear cloths! haha |

| Fitness | When to do weight training? | Jun 04 2009 21:41 (UTC) |
|
Original Post by floggingsully: Yeah it's definitely good to do a gentler version too. But when I wake up in the morning I need to run a little or ride a bike for 15 minutes to get blood flowing before I lift. If you are lifting later in the day after moving around for a while you can probably skip the cardio "warm up" and just start with lighter version of whatever you are lifting. I also agree with amethystgirl that some mobility stuff is good too. Thank you, floggingsully for your hilarious sarcasm |

You want to do some light cardio before to warm up your muscles. If you lift in the morning you want to warm up a little longer than in the afternoon. I usually run for 15 to 20 minutes on a low setting. I do my harder runs on the days I don't lift. Hope that helps. |

hahaha I hear you. Gotta love the lab! I did my field school in Peru too! The site was Moche on the northern coast. I've also worked on a dig in Northern Ca where I currently reside. My concentration in college and current interests are in human osteology and biological archaeology. I am currently working on a study analyzing bone density in healthy and overweight living children... trying to save money for grad school. My dad agreed to pay for grad school if he could pick the program. Apparently bioarchaeology didn't make his list. lol. Have a wonderful summer in Peru! I would love to make it back soon. |

Hey I am working on becoming an archaeologist and have been on a few digs myself! I agree with jennawillis16: log half the field hours as digging. Also, in my experience screening takes a good amount of effort too. I always tightened my abbs to protect my back when shaking the thing back and forth. You could just set your burn meter to moderate or vigorous activity and not log your activities. |

| Foods | Is protein good if your are not trying to bulk up? | Jun 01 2009 21:47 (UTC) |

Original Post by size_zero_boy: "getting all your energy from protein" is not a good idea either. A balanced diet is key. You want to eat carbohydrates, protein, and fat. Some people recommend 40-30-30 (meaning 40% calories from carbs, 30% from fat, and 30% from protein) but I personally eat about 33-33-33 (that doesn't exactly =100% but it's approximate). |

Eating protein is not going to make you "bulk up" and neither is lifting. I am assuming you are female and not taking any steroids. Also, protein is very important for basic cellular function. You want about 30% of your calories to come from protein. |

15! Geez I must have been a late bloomer or something! Seriously, the OP should not be attacked for her sexual activity. That is a very personal decision and though she may be young she has every right! wormyeyelid, please see a doctor. Tell her exactly what is going on with your bulimia and sexual activity. Get on STD test and use protection from now on. Just because you are experiencing amenorrhea does not mean you can't get pregnant. You could start ovulating at any time. Secondly, you do not want an STD. Some of them can cause infertility and though it may not sound that scary now when you are older it will cause a lot of problems. You can get cervical cancer, uterine cancer, and all kind of other terrible things because you were not careful when you were younger. You need to take care of yourself. That is more important than your boyfriends pleasure. You want to act like an adult then start acting like one. Your situation is much more serious than you think now get your **** together! |

Thanks for the responses! I am going to stay away from the smith machine because I already have lower back problems and had ACL surgery in my left knee. It's tuff being a bipedal female athlete. I put a lot of weight on the bar and I don't want to risk any further damage. Melkor, are you by any chance from Nor Cal? I saw you dropped a hella in an above post. |

If they are only $35 I will definitely buy one! Thanks ladies. I use to have a gym membership to a large gym but since I live in a building with a gym it was a waist of money. The only problem is that the gym in my building is smaller and has less equipment. I will feel like such a bad ass bringing in my own bar :) |

| Health & Support | Is it OK to save calories for another day? | May 28 2009 18:40 (UTC) |

I don't think that's a very good idea. Why can't you make healthy choices tomorrow? If it's not possible monitor your portions. Eat 1/2 the hamburger and a few fries. Eat something healthy before you go and you will be less hungry and less likey to over eat at TGIF. Exercise a little harder than normal. Or you can indulge and get back on track the next day. One day of bad eating is not going to ruin months of hard work. But it's really your choice. Good luck! |

Hi again! Well there is your problem... you are not eating enough to put on muscle. Good new is that you can easily fix the problem! Do as chrissy1988 says and up your cals to at least 1500. If you want to really build muscle than you should consume even more. You probably aren't getting enough fiber in your diet. Are you eating mainly protein? Try adding fruits, veggies, whole grains, and nuts/fats into your diet. You will see an increase in the intensity of your workouts... I did. I use to try to restrict too much but i realized that you have to eat to lose and my workouts have greatly benefited. Good luck! |

Are you eating enough calories? It takes a surplus of cals to gain muscle. I'm a little confused: do you work other muscle groups besides your chest? |

I'm sorry your friends are acting like jerks :(. I hate when people try to say that genes are the reason that people are overweight and there is nothing they can do about it. Yes, studies have shown that genes do play a role in weight gain and loss as well as effects body type and metabolic rate ect. However, weightloss/gain also has a lot to do with environmental factors such as food intake and exercise. They are 100% wrong to tell you that losing weight is unhealthy for you because of you genes! Prove them wrong! |

Original Post by alicandra: I have a friend who had her breasts done because she had tubular breasts and they look fantastic! I'm actually kind of jealous. They do not look plastic at all. The only way they look plastic is when women opt for very large implants. Your doctor will be able to recommend sizes for you. Also make sure you have a reputable surgeon and you will be fine! |
