Birkbeck is a hack and a terrible "expert", if you ask me! And the comparison to concentration camps? Tacky to say the least. It almost sounds as if he's endorsing them. I mean, at least they aren't fat, right? What about the levels of anorexia and bulimia in this decade? He's endorsing that too, in his absurd notion that everyone with a BMI over 30 should be shot. You don't hear him saying that anyone with a BMI under 15 should be shot-- it sounds to me like he doesn't care about actual health. Someone who weighs 150 can have less body fat or lower blood sugar than someone weighing 135, for example. Weight is important, but relative.

Yes, people tend to make themselves overweight through their own actions-- but that is oversimplifying the issue to say the least. Compulsive eating is an emotional issue, not a physical one. Only when I grew to accept myself did I learn to use food as fuel for my body rather than a comfort. I'm highly affronted by the idea that attacking the obese is going to be our miracle cure. In that same way, I disagree with attacking smokers. Most of them don't want to be smokers, why do they need you to reaffirm their addictions? Eating less through insane amounts of self-control can work, but it generally won't last until you fix the underlying issue.

We do, however, need health education. And that does not mean a longer, more tedious high school health class. Just a better one.

I like egg beaters and the taste is better than just egg whites. The price is a concern, but I feel awkward throwing out yolks, too... Plus with egg beaters you can use as much or as little as you want.

I looove pumpkin. Cupcakes, bread, muffins, pie, pancakes... I finally tried soup, though I prefer the sweet side of pumpkin. My Japanese teacher was the opposite-- in Japan they bake it and eat it with soy sauce. You could basically apply pumpkin to anything.

I really like to do that. It's kind of fun to learn, I think, in a weird sort of way. I like learning what exercises are useful for what and how certain foods are beneficial. I've learned a lot, and it's not the kind of information that you're never going to use in life, either. :)

I'll celebrate Thanksgiving, and Xmas all I want. :D And even Halloween. KNOW WHY? Because I deserve it! And I'd really rather not go insane. Binge days are good for you. Well, not really. But they're good for the soul, I think.

But to those who can resist it, good on ya.

You're going to hear everything about artificial sweeteners, just like littleshellys said, and lots of people will try to make you swallow their opinions...The problem is, it sounds like a great advantage, so people want it. It's new and unnatural, so people fight it. Most sources telling you how horrendous it is... don't actually say much. And here are the rest of us, completely unsure what to think.

For me, I'm for them. I prefer something that's also caffeine free though, I don't see why I need that. I think it's a good starting point for avoiding normal soda. It will still rot your teeth, but all things in moderation, right? I imagine that it will affect some people's appetite differently than others, so watch it. For example, aspartame gives a strange aftertaste that is not appetizing. The last thing I had besides water is 25-calorie hot cocoa. That was a couple hours ago I think. Go figure.

The Lounge Glamour Mag's 'Plus' Size photo shoot Oct 04 2009

I saw this issue and it's a mature idea and all... but, I hate hate hate hate Glamour. Their motivation is money, like any business. I think it's a good step, those models are probably fairly healthy (yay finally!), and it helps spread acceptance when we need it. But honestly it's probably just a trend. 17 did the same thing (Size 14 Model Shoot), and I'm sure others like Vogue and Cosmo have as well.

My sister is a size 6, and she could fit in this shoot. But that's still saying something. Anything above a size 2 is apparently really pushing it as far as runway modeling goes. And anyways, I guess doing something right for the wrong reasons still counts. :)

I think people's first impressions are the most shallow, and eventually they make a more true assessment. When people are interested right away, it's probably all from looks. More lasting relationships tend to happen more slowly.

Anyways, this may sound sexist, but honestly I usually have more fears the other way around. Like all those guys who want to put up "No Fat Chicks" signs? Yeah, they need to die in a firey train wreck on their way to the Misogynist Convention.

I don't know if you have a chance for this case because I don't know the girl. But you certainly have a chance for a skinny girl in general, why wouldn't you? There's nothing wrong with giving it a shot, she could be incredible.

I'm that way. I have enough issues with normal things like school and shopping, let alone the embarrassing agony that is exercise. D: It does fade, though. I've stopped caring so much how terrible I am in my aerobics class compared to everyone else. I just would rather be able to exercise alone in nature instead of streets. I'm also car-phobic so wheee! But I have a treadmill and it's my best friend... Now the issue is kicking my family off so I can use it. You could always find a nice walking trail away from traffic and homes?

I want to hurt your doctor. They wonder why people are embarrassed to ask questions that could literally save their lives and why they lie about smoking/medications/diet... I can't believe that! I don't see a doctor, so it's a bit scary but my dad is an E.R. doc so I have at least that. Get a different doctor if you can. A good doctor will answer all of your questions, and a good doctor will be impressed with what you've done. People have really lost sight of preventative medicine. Our health care system is getting to be a joke. :( It reminds me of my driver's ed teacher. He was so mean, and now I'm still scared to drive.

I'm 17 and trying to lose about 90 more pounds. I'm really worried about the state my skin will be in when it's all over. I'll try and do all the same advice you're getting but if anything works especially well, tell us about it, okay? ;)

I have almost 100 pounds to lose and I'm really worried about this. You look so amazing- SO amazing, but I can see exactly what your worries are. I would give it time, drink a lot, check out firming lotions or something first. I think I can expect to have the same problem in a year or so, and that would be my first step. It's never fun not to know, but surgery is a bit drastic if there's another way. You'd think our bodies would be nicer after all that effort! You can also spend this time to research as much as possible into exactly what surgery would be like, and the cost, etc...

Does the bodybugg know how tall you are and how much you weigh? Or is it more like a pedometer for calories? For example, if you gave a 150-pound friend your bodybugg, and they did the same exercise, would it tell them the same as you? If so I'd trust CC.

I call myself an Atheist, because it's the easiest title. Saying "agnostic" is like putting a giant "CONVERT ME" sign on your back, and I don't want to be converted to any organized religion. I do not believe in the Bible as being literal, and the stories as allegories or parables are offensive to me. I understand that translation can make it tricky to understand the meaning, but some stories/versus are extremely straightforward and I cannot endorse them. I recognize that there's no possibility of disproving God, and see that there's a possibility there is one. But I also feel that it doesn't matter. In my opinion, no deity would put us here except to live, and to a perfect being, the last thing on it's mind would be worship. Believing in God is everyone's right, and I believe that the opposite is true as well. While I don't believe that being Christian makes someone a good or bad person, I would hope that the people here make the "Christian" decision and respect my beliefs. ;)

I'll never understand that! It makes me so mad. How can anyone do that in good conscience? It's not just kids being kids. It's kids being morons.

Once at a church activity, a CHURCH activity, some of the girls left to go doorbell ditch, with the consent of the leaders! I'm no longer religious, but this kind of thing is clearly becoming far too acceptable, even in my tiny, "safe" neighborhood. I'm always a little slow to blame the parents, but when they're endorsing it... something IS wrong.

What kind of thinking leads that to be okay? I think that if a kid is caught egging a house, or killing snowmen or running over pumpkins they deserve it when the old senile guy comes out screaming and chases them, or even when they get the cops called on them. It's not only trespassing, it's vandalism and theft. I don't know what the penalty is, if any, but I'm thinking a $200 fine or so would make me laugh.

Good luck cleaning. I hope all of those kids get salmonella. :)

lol Olive Garden is my favorite. and Cracker Barrel. and Chick-Fil-A. You're clearly all insane.

Not a fan of Wingers. Their sauce seems too spicy and not particularly good, and since it's on eeeverything...

With restaurants like Chili's and Applebees, all I generally get is chicken tenders. Chili's are very, very fatty and Applebees are nothing special.

I don't think there are any that I really "hate" though. There's a lot of hate in this room...

Don't normally use pitas, but I got whole-grain tortillas and I think the principle is the same. I use some shredded chicken breast with tomato sauce and barbecue sauce, maybe some cheddar cheese and make a sort of quesadilla. And then I serve it with low fat sour cream.

You guys are brilliant though, I'm definitely stealing some ideas. I hope it makes the tortilla translation well. :o

Foods how many calories do YOU have for breakfast? Sep 26 2009

Only about 150-300 on say, a school day. Normally PB toast on wheat or cereal. I wake up at about 6:00 so the last thing I want is food, but I'm getting use to breakfast. On weekends I sometimes make an extravagant breakfast. Whole wheat french toast and scrambled eggs, or muffins or something. I'm also a dinner gal, my lunches are only about 400 calories or so. I think next week I'll try going for a bigger breakfast, just not sure how. I'm at a really depressing standstill right now.

I haaaate everything potato salad, chicken salad, egg salad, etc. Never tried them, but the smell makes me sick and it reminds me of being an awkward, miserable kid. Pickles are the same. Vinegar. I must have a smell thing. Taste-wise I hate onions. Onion powder is fine but real onions, like on a burger... EW.

I'm kind of a texture-eater too though, and if the apples aren't firm, or the watermelon is grainy, or there are chunks in the spaghetti sauce I can't do it. Which excludes a lot of foods at a lot of times.

Sometimes your metabolism can slow down in certain situations (in which case, more exercise would be great), but you may just be stressed. I have an easier time eating right when I'm not feeling depressed or alone, which means that I've eaten terribly most of my life. Calorie counting can be extremely helpful if you go about it the right way. It's like a game, almost. And after a while, food becomes fuel, not comfort. I don't know what your emotional situation is like, but if it's something that needs to be taken care of, then that may be part of the problem and the solution. You need to take care of yourself. :)

You're all brilliant. Some ideas I took and twisted, others I made before finding out I'm not alone. :)

-Buying clothes anywhere I want, and getting any clothes I want.

-Being able to tell people how I did it and why. People who know the same struggles, and people who just need to know the struggles that people like us go through.

-Weighing less than Homer Simpson.:P

-Not feeling like every heavy person is just another future version of myself

-Hopefully, not having to worry about diabetes anymore!!!

-Having more confidence (already getting there) and a better social life

-Being healthy. If a doctor ever tells me I'm a healthy young woman, I'll go straight to the happy dance.

-Having my family be proud of me. Not the crazy emotional fatty sister. The beautiful talented one. I don't care about boys too much, but there is something about being avoided when it comes to setting up friends and such...

-Keep better temperature... I don't want to avoid being outside when it's too cold/hot.

-Definitely less fatty feet for cuter shoes.

-Wearing shirts that aren't long-sleeved to hide my arms of jiggly sickness

-Torturing people who would not have accepted me before

-Taking pictures without squint-eyes, double-chin red-face syndrome.

-Making people notice how much I've changed (aerobics teacher, old friends, family)

-Having more endurance, especially for college-life

-Take dance classes without worrying about that blasted leotard

-Take fashion/beauty classes without feeling out of place

-Being my own fashion model

-Making my sister jealous (mwahaha)

-Being my own hero. :)
