| Weight Loss | Not loosing weight at 1100 calories | Feb 25 2009 02:41 (UTC) |

I totally agree! Unfortunately, walking a mile a day is not enough to lose weight; actually, it is not even enough to meet the federal recommendations for daily activity. You are supposed to have at least 30 minutes of aerobic physical activity every day just for cardiovascular health. Also, you need to bump up your calorie intake just a little. Good luck! |

| Weight Loss | CC Recommends I eat 1201 cals to reach my goal LOL | Feb 25 2009 02:24 (UTC) |

As a woman who is 5'9" and weighs 154 lbs, I can tell you that I eat 1200-1500 kcal/day (depending on exercise). I originally put my setting at moderately active (I run 5-6 days/week), but I feel that a better guideline is to set it at sedentary and add in my activity. I move around some at my job (hospital), but not enough that I felt I could count it as having an active job. You sound like you might be in the same boat. If you are disappointed about the rate of loss, keep in mind that you are already at a healthy weight, so you won't drop as quickly. Also, although yoga/calisthenics are great for the mind and body, it is not a great calorie burner. But you should definitely keep doing them - just be a little more patient! |

Hi everyone~ I saw a couple of people who are possible twins for me, but I don't know how to message. So maybe someone could tag me? I am 26, 5'9", and 155 lbs (was up to 165 after devouring Christmas cookies). I would like to weigh 140-145. I am very physically active and would especially love a buddy who also is into exercise! |

| Weight Loss | evil grapefruit rant | Feb 04 2009 00:45 (UTC) |

I love your rant! Why does everybody get to butt in on our food choices? And it goes both ways - they had free pizza for lunch at work today; I ate the lunch I had packed and everyone acted like I had an eating disorder! But even worse is a (sort of) friend of mine who persists in telling me every time we hang out about how much happier and healthier I would be if I would quit eating so many carbs! I hate all the anti-carb people!!! I mean, by all means, cut them out of your diet if it makes you feel better, but don't act like they cause cancer or something! She will critique me for putting milk in my coffee (because all dairy has carbs) or eating a whole wheat english muffin with my egg whites at brunch. It's gotten to the point where I can't hang out with her. Anybody else ever have people in their lives like this, and how do you deal with it? |

| Weight Loss | 5' 8" girls: what's your size? | Feb 02 2009 02:55 (UTC) |

5'9", 158 lbs, size 10. Still trying to get to 145 (never have made it below 154, and I'm 26!) I actually could care less about sizes - too many stores have so much variability that it never bothers me if I go up or down a size or two. But the number on the scale matters to me a lot - based on my (our) height, the "ideal weight" is 145 and I'd like to be there! Basically, I'd like to be where you are! |

| Weight Loss | How much weight did you lose in January? | Feb 01 2009 23:09 (UTC) |

This is such an awesome thread - I was feeling totally depressed at how slow the weight is coming off; but now I realize it is just normal. I have to really watch myself because in the past I have been able to lose weight really fast, but it was not healthy. This was my first month here, and I lost about 7 lbs. (165 to 158 at 5'9"). I am still hoping to get down to 150 by March 19th, and 145 by May 22nd. Thanks to everyone for the motivation! (especially those of you who talked about having less than awesome weight loss months) |

| Fitness | Stress Fracture - My cautionary story to others | Jan 19 2009 02:22 (UTC) |

Hi! I'm new to CC, but I was excited to see other crazy runners on here. The stress fracture thing caught my eye - I have had 2 (one in my tibia, the second time two bones in my foot). Anyways, I'm trying to figure out how to balance adequate nutrition for marathon training and losing weight. I am 5'9" and weigh 158 lbs. I think that I would be less prone to injury if I weighed around 145 (plus I'd look a hell of a lot better in a bikini...) So my primary goal right now is to lose weight, but I want to be able to do at least 30 miles a week, including a long run. I almost passed out yesterday just doing 10 miles, in spite of having some GU after 6.5. Any suggestions? |

| Health & Support | Question about fat and periods.... | Jan 18 2009 00:33 (UTC) |
7 |
If you are getting enough calories, you should not stop having your period, even if you do not have a ton of fat. Most guidelines recommend about 25-30% of your daily calories from fat, which would be around 500 if you're on a 2000 calorie diet. Also, strenuous physical activity (like running a marathon) often causes women to miss periods, especially when they're younger and your cycles aren't as well established. Most likely, losing your period is related to your birth control/hormones. It's common to lose your period on some kinds of birth control, especially Depo or IUDs. I would definitely ask your doctor; an OB/GYN would be best. |
