I am 4 weeks pregnant and I was wondering how to figure out how many calories to consume while pregnant?  I know it is 100 calories more the first trimester and then 300 cal. more the 2nd and 3rd trimester, but do you go off how many cal I am currently eating or off of the 'burn meter'

I am interested as well.  I was wondering how many calories you stuck to and if it really helped.
I was wondering do you add the 300 calories to your 'burn' amount or what?

Hi, I found out that I am four weeks pregnant with my second child.  I have a 2 1/2 year old daughter and didn't exercise at all, except a little bit of walking in my 2nd trimester.  I gained 53 pounds with her and just recently lost all the weight.  I WILL do things differently this time.  I want to be able to run, but if I have to I will use the elliptical.  I will continue to lift weights but not 'max out'.  I am trusting that my body will tell me when I have done enough.  I will also try and count calories, but I am just not sure how many I need to avoid the excessive weight.  I am going to go to a nutritionist to see what they recommend.

hope everyone has had some success this month!!

it has been a struggle this month with losing weight and staying healthy.  my family went through the evil flu which lasted a week, then we had the chest cold, and now my daughter has a high fever which i will probably end up getting too.  it has been a tough month. 

my weight has not moved ALL month (except when i had the stomach flu i lost 5 lbs, but as soon as i ate again i gained it all back) so i started doing '2 a days' this week (going to the gym in the morning and at night) and i have had some success!

Starting weight with CC == 189
Weight starting this challenge == 175.8
i went up a couple of pounds at the beginning of this challenge and was completely discouraged.
my goal weight was to get to 169.8, but that didn't happen.  :(
happy to say though that my weight did change this last week after a month of plateu.
current weight == 173.6
so i only lost a little over 2 lbs, but it is better than gaining or staying the same!

hope everyone has enjoyed this challenge and has success in the coming months!

ok guys, i am frustrated!  i haven't lost ANY weight in the last couple weeks, i have GAINED!

starting weight (oct 07)--189
beginning weight of this challenge--175.8

goal was to get to 169 by the end of feb, don't think that is going to happen!

current weight--176.4

hi, i have tried the b-f-l program a couple times and i have never been able to stay on it for longer than a week.
i did start using the b-f-l exercise program in oct and have lost 15 lbs since then.  i just love the exercise program.  it makes me feel like i really pushed myself and didn't waste any time in the gym.
 for food, i just count my calories and try to stay within 1600 or so, then on the weekends i cheat a little.

was sick all last week with the stomach flu and lost 5 lbs and was down to 172, but the weight came back on as soon as I ate again. :(

i eat at my BMR (basil metabolic rate)

that has helped a lot.

Things that have worked for me...(i am 30 yr old, start weight-189, current weight-172)

when i have the munchies about 3 pm i eat microwave popcorn.  i can eat the entire bag for only 100 calories chug a glass of water and i am full when i am done.
when i have the chocolate craving i have one or two (depending how hungry i am) of the swiss miss diet hot chocolate (with water).  totally works!
hit the gym-- do what is called HIIT (high intensity interval training) which is basically going at a easy pace for a few min then kick it up a notch for a min then kick it up again until you don't think you can go anymore, then go back down to easy again...repeat for 20 to 30 min.

weights--you got to do them if you want your body to change.
make it so it is not easy.  do and easy set of 12, then a harder set of 10, then a max out set of 6 or 8 for each major muscle group.

breakfast--oatmeal and 1/2 banana
lunch-- i eat a lean cuisine everyday with something light or controlled amount of chips.
dinner--lean protein, veggie, and a starch.

It is crazy, I know!

I have tried many running shoes and nothing compares to my Asics.  I have tried a couple different types of Asics like, 2100's and so on, but my favorite is Asics Foundation because they give me the cushion and stability I need since I always get shin splints.

did you count calories or anything?  I am just wondering because we may start trying soon, but I am still not to my goal and considered a little overweight.  I just don't want to be really huge during this pregnancy.  any tips i could use?

Here is a post you need to read.  It is about your BMR and how to find the exact calories you need for your height, weight, age, etc.  it is 1200 cal/day is bull part 2 by lizshuler.  Great post, highly recommend everyone reading it.

awesome information!  Thank you so much!  It really makes since!  Do you know the cal intake if your pregnant!  Isn't like 300 more cal per day in the 2nd and 3rd trimester?

Hi, I am 5 8.5 and I weigh 177.  I started out at 189 and was stuck there forever until I started getting serious about calories and lifting weights. The past few years I have been running many miles and even ran a half marathon but my weight was not moving AT ALL!  I decided to join the gym and get serious and I bought a few sessions with the personal trainer (totally worth the $) because she really made me see how important it is to strength train to change your body and really burn calories.  Since then I have lost 12 lbs since the end of OCT and that was all through the holidays.  So I am really excited to see what the next couple of months are going to bring me.  I would like to get to get to 160 by May.

Hi, I am new here, and i was wondering if it was too late to join?  I was gazing through some of the threads and this one jumped out at me.  I have been a member of cc for over a year.  At the beginning of last year I was smokin it!  I lost 14 pounds following the calories suggested but not really excercising much.  Then my mom visited and i just blew it!  I have been trying to get back on this cc way of life since March of 06!  At the beginning of this year i swore i was going to lose the lbs so i started to run with a goal in mind.  a 1/2 marathon.  i thought that would surely help me lose weight since it helped me about 5 years ago doing the same thing.  the only thing, i haven't been watching what i eat.  and 300 miles later (since jan 5 07) i haven't lost 1 pound.  it is very depressing running all those miles and not losing one stinking pound.  i almost quit running altogether, but thankfully to my running partner, he helped me keep putting the miles in and have completed the 'flying pig' half marathon last weekend.  here i am looking for some answers now.  am i always going to be a big girl?  i was always a strong girl but never stick skinny which is not what i want now, but at least a "healthy" weight.  i saw this thread and i know it is for me.  my 30th b-day is on july 17 and i made a promise on my last b-day that i was going to be the most healthy i have been in my entire life at 30, but at the rate i am going i just dont know if it is possible.  my body just does not want to lose fat.  i am frustrated.  i guess i am just really going to have to be strict with myself and say no to food, and really stay true to what i put in my mouth and put it on paper.  anyways, here is my stats:

189 lbs
5 ft 8.5 in
want to lose 20-25 by birthday (july 17)
ultimately want to lose 44 lbs, that will put me at a healthy 145lbs.

hi, i thought i'd give you a couple good things that i use to help me feel full.  i have been staying at 1026 or so.  i know that is really low but i am only doing that for the first week.  i have been eating a banana at 8am then an apple at 10am, then for lunch I have a lean pocket (this seems to help fill me up) Since I am a BIG chip eater I find it hard not to keep munching on something with my lunch so I have been eating the Jolly Time "healthy pop" popcorn.  I eat two of these bags.  This usually keeps me full until 4 or so.  i also eat the fat free sugar free instant pudding with 2tbps of fat free cool whip.  It hits the chocolate craving and it feels like i am cheating.  i drink a lot of diet pepsi which isn't that great for me and i also drink a lot of crystal light "fruit punch" it only has 5 calories per serving but it tastes like koolaid.  for dinner i have 4 oz of chicken or pork chops with a lettuce salad.  i top the salad with 2 tbsp of "lite done right" ranch dressing.  it doesn't taste too bad, some of the low fat dressing taste nasty to me and this one seems to taste the best.  hope this helps out.  oh another thing i snack on are the popsicle brand fat free sugar free popsicles and fudgsicle.  they save me from going on a binge.
