| Foods | What's your favorite fruit and when is it in season? | Mar 05 2009 11:05 (UTC) |
9 |
i have a thing about nectrines (cant stand the 'furryness' of peaches), but for the life of me i have no idea when they are in season... i just buy them from my local fruit stall when they appearwhich seems to be at rendom times to be honest! I also love raspberries (raspberries and nectrines together in a fruit salad is just heaven), i have a thing about melons too, and also pineapple, mango, plums (which are really nice to make into a plum crumble which can be made healthy if you REALLY try hard!) I generally love fruit! I live in the UK though, so most fruits are imported, apart from apples and some berries in season. |

chicken stew - brilliant for the winter months chicken breasts, sweet (bell) peppers of any colour, onion, celery if you like it, potato, vegetable stock and tinned tomatos cook the chicken first (baked preferably), but not all the way through dry fry (fry without oil - basically grilling) the vegetables and biol the potato chunks for a bit chop up the chicken and add to the veg and potatos (drained)) in a casserole dish, put the tinned tomatos and vegetable stock over the top and cook untill piping hot and the chicken is cooked all the way through. you dont need to add anything else to it, just eat it as it is! |

| Foods | Nutrition Report - Has anyone ever had an A or A+? | Jan 30 2009 08:27 (UTC) |

Original Post by clairelaine: Are you sure? I ate all B and C graded foods and a fair few ungreaded foods and my analysis came out an A-... if it was going on the average grades for what i ate surely it would have come out a B- or C+? I literally only ate B and C foods, no A's or even A-s (it was my off day). i just persumed that it was grading my nutritional intake rather than doing an average as there are so many foods without a grade out therand if you put ALL the nutritional info about a food which iosnt on the list, it will come out with a grade for you anyway, so surely its going on percentages of nutrients? |

thanks you guys. i was just reading loads of posts which were saying there should be a steady loss each week and i was starting to get worried that my body was somehow (miraculously) deciding that losing weight wasnt for it. i just want to get into a more healthy BMI, when i first started i was classed as slightly overweight but now im into the top end of healthy. i just want to get into the lower middle end of healthy and maintain that! |

go to college. as a university student myself i can vouch for the "it is possible to go to uni and still eat healthily" in my firlst year, i chose a self-catered dorm so that i ate what i wanted not what i was given (one of my friends went into catered and the food was awful, fried bfast or toast, chips, pizza, sandwiches/salads covered in high calorie sauces and HUGE portions! livign self-catered means you get to eat as much as you want, cook the type of food you want to eat, make the same foods but healthier (ie grill instead of fry etc). gyms are usually provided by universities, and if not, local gyms will usually give students a good discount. I dont know how it is in the US (living in the UK) but i frequently have 1 or 2 hour gaps between lectures which i use to go to the gym, or go swimming or simply go for a walk! Personally, i think it will be easier for you to lose weight if you are in uni, as your day wil be more structured. unstructured days can lead to less discipline and you may find yourself eating to waste time etc. its best to keep yourself constantly busy and have set meal times and exercise times (at least to an extent) you cant work out 8 hours every day for an entire year, so what would you do with the rest of the time? Seriously, college is the best way to go. youll probably will find it very hard to diet in the first couple of months, change of routine, food types, friends etc leads to a lot of socialising over alcohol, meals out, coffee etc but once youve made a frienship group and got used to the routine, it will go well, trust me! |

| Foods | Salad as a Diet Food? | Jan 25 2009 21:06 (UTC) |

can i just stick up for iceburg lettuce?!? i love it! its so crispy and suck a nice addition to a meal. i tend to have my salads as part of a larger meal, so for example with pasta bake or jacket potato. avovcado is gorgeous as an addition (but not too much)! my salad is generally any kind of lettuce or rocket or spinich or watercress (or all of them) with carrot, tomato, bell pepper and then a meal at the side. its a good way to reduce meanl sizes as such, by replacing the extra bit of 'meal' you would have had with salad!

dont worry about it Cheryl, we all have our off days and your normally very disciplined so youve earnt a day off! anyway, is good to have a day off once in a while so that you trick your body into burning more calories. if you get it used to having the same amount each day, it will start burning off less and less calories as it gets used to not eating much (even if you do exercise) so having a day off it good for the diet (not to mention your mood etc, its always good to just forget about the fact your restricting yourself) |

im not a fan of adding protein or banana to things. one of the nicest smoothies i make is 10 respberries, a cup of orange juice and a cup of plain low or no-fat yogurt plus a spoon full of honey if you want some added sweetness! either that or kiwi, grape, apple juice and yogurt (its opaque green but lovely!) blueberries, milk, yougurt, cherries is really nice - add oatmeal for a filling bfast, or anyother 'forest/summer' fruit to count the calories, just add together the individual ingredients et voila, healthy, nutritious and tasty! |

apart from the huge amount of alcohol i consumed yesterday, i think i did pretty well! i went out for a meal with my friends to celebrate our coursework being handed in and we went to pizza express (again.... i hardly ever eat pizza, but this last few weeks ive had a pizza every week :s) i ordered a chicken and grilled veg pizza, i asked for it with half cheese and no oil on the veg or chicken. it was soooo nice! i felt like i had managed to have a healthy pizza (plus i only ate about half of the base) so i treated myself to sharing an ice cream sundae with 2 other friends so i had about a scoop of ice cream which i was happy about!
today ive had: B - porridge with tea and orange juice - 300 cals L - half a tin of tomato soup and a watercress salad - 145 cals D - roast chicken dinner and a jaffa cake - 669 cals
all together about 1114 cals!!!
i trained to be a chef at a restaurant when i was 16 though so i think that has somethign to do with it, there were always plenty of customers who wanted to have their meals healthy, and there are lots of ways to do that, one of them being dry frying (frying without oil) that way it works out just as healthy as grilling. meats etc can always be grilled and the fat drained off (got to love george foreman) |
