our given the following ingredients what do you prepare  or eat with them:

1. Brown Rice - I absolutely can't stand brown rice...I know, I'm horrible. I'll use couscous or something instead, with parsley and olive oil and baby bella mushrooms. Yum

2. A bowl of spring mix - tomatoes, mushrooms, avocado, grilled chicken, shredded cheese, roasted red bell peppers... or fresh ones. Just about anything

3. Peanut butter - plain. on a spoon, or with pretzel

4. Hummus -kashi crackers, falafel, fresh veggie

5. Sliced Apples - I just buy apples and eat them whole

6. Whole wheat bread - lf turkey sandwich with avocado and tomato and provolone- grilled

7. Plain Yogurt - haven't bought it yet...

8. Tofu- I HATE tofu.

Your in the grocery store and have to purchase the following items, what flavor, brand etc do you choose:

9. A carton of icecream - WW cookies and cream bar

10. A box of cereal - i dont buy cereal, it doesn't get eaten

11. Bag of frozen vegetables - steamfresh california mix

12. Box of crackers -Kashi Sesame

13. Can of soup - Not big on canned soup. I like my own better. I do want to try the V8 soups though.

15. Salad dressing - Good Seasons Italian

*Indulge yourself, take out all nutritional dietary concern and select the type of the following you buy

16. Bag of salty snacks: KC Masterpiece barbecue chips.

17. Bag of candy - I'd rather have a giant bar of fancy dark chocolate...and eat it all in one sitting.

18. Baked good from the bakery department: cream cheese danishes or coffee cake

19. Dip or spread (ie: Ranch dip) - queso with sausage and rotel

20. Kids/Sugary Cereal - Lucky Charm

Weight Loss What's your idea of a "cheat day?" Jan 31 2009
23:22 (UTC)

Hmm, my idea of a cheat day is just like horsinaround23... whenever unplanned outings turn into hi-cal dinners out. My husband usually wants to go out to dinner once a week, and he almost ALWAYS picks a chinese buffet or italian food. I just do my best to eat well the rest of the day, and when we go out I always go after fruits, veggies, lean means, etc. My favorite is when we go to a mongolian grill... I just load up my plate with veggies ( no noodles, no rice) and go easy on the sauces, and get some egg drop soup and wrap those grilled veggies in a chinese rice pancake..... yumm... I tend to go overboard, but its better for me than what I could do!

But no, there's no way to "spot reduce".  You can't tone any one area, except for losing fat all over your body.  This doesn't apply to shaping via muscle growth because that isn't, I assume, what you want to do.

Well, I am exercising to tone up, but those are the spots I really wanted to work on. I'm still obviously in the process of losing the weight. Right now I'm starting with crunches in different areas- side crunches and regular (i'm not sure what to call them) as well as squats and lunges. I'm also doing namaste yoga for strength and endurance as well as balance. I just thought I would get someone else's opinion. Thanks for replying.

Have you tried the Smart Taste Ronzoni pasta or the Dreamfield's pasta? I'm not sure if you'll find them at your health food store, but they are usually found at regular grocery stores- dreamfields is at Kroger for sure and Smart Taste is at albertson's and wal mart. The dream fields is great for people with diabetes because they're low carb, and the smart taste is low cal. I use these regularly and they taste like regular pasta, and come in different shapes. My husband can't tell the difference.

Weight Loss Does anyone else loose weight in chunks? Jan 31 2009

I agree with vron082- I lose the same way. I always make sure to weigh myself in the mornings, after I use the restroom and before I put any clothing on or eat anything. I wont lose anything for a week or so, maybe a few oz, and then I'll say, well, I've been good, I'll have a treat. Then I'll go back to eating healthy and it seems to kick-start my metabolism and a few pounds drop right off. I do notice that if I haven't pooped, though, I won't lose anything. The weight has to go somewhere...like down the toilet. Wink

I agree... It's V-day, let go and have fun, especially since your man rarely does this. If you're really that worried about it, stay away from cream sauces and fatty meats. A little pasta or bread and lean meats aren't going to sabotage you. If you're going to drink, stick with wine or vodka, since those are the lower cal choices. Even light beer would be ok. Be more cautious with your calorie intake earlier in the day, and hey, maybe ya'll will go dancing. That will help burn some calories too. Otherwise, like I and others have already said, LET GO AND HAVE FUN!

Oh how I feel your pain. I went through this with both of my boys. If he cries for his bobba and wont eat, I would double check with the doctor also to make sure he doesn't have a sore throat or ear infection, because if so eating would be painful and sucking/swallowing his bottle would be soothing. Also, to help your child get used to regular food, I would introduce one new food a week and give it to him several times a week until he gets used to it. If he is 21 months old and has enough teeth to eat regular food, it's time to start weaning him off the bottle, at least at night. The best way to do this is to start filling it with 2 oz less than you normally do day by day. Eventually, start filling it with water. The milk in his bottle at night can rot his teeth. Granted, they're only baby teeth, but it could be painful. I second the opinion of seeing if your older children could share a room for a little while. If all else fails, let him cry it out... but for no more than 30 minutes at a time, because something could really be wrong. I hope this helps...

OMG those children aren't even worth your time. I love the retort kathygator came up with! I'm 22, 5'8" and about 171 at the moment. I started out at 189, so I feel ya! The thing is no one believes I weigh as much as I do, because I hide it well, lol. You are not FAT. You may be slightly overweight, like me, but never fat. Those guys will learn their lesson one day, about how it doesn't matter what someone looks like, but who they are inside. If they pull something like that again, just turn around and laugh in their face. They're only saying things like that because of their own insecurities.

Foods I have decided most of the food in the grocery store is not food. Jan 16 2009

I agree. I admit, I buy some processed foods for my husband and kiddos when they're at home, but not too much. I do my best to avoid the junk food aisles, but I will get some baked lays or sunchips for a snack sometimes. I can't drastically change my diet or it screws my digestive system up and it's rather painful. I also like to get the boca burgers and things like that in the frozen section for convenience. Most of the time, though, I will check the nutrition grade on cc before I go buy something processed.

My question is, if they complain about the United States bieng the most unhealthy country, why are the healthy foods so much more expensive?

1200 is the minimum for someone who is very sedentary! Your body is in starvation mode!!!

I wish people would stop calling it starvation mode. It's not starvation mode, it's CONSERVATION mode. If your body thinks there is a shortage of food, it will store and/or conserve your body fat to keep you going. Eat healthy when you are hungry. IF you are breastfeeding, you definitely need more calories for your baby's sake, and for your own. You only want a 1000 calorie deficit at most. I started hitting a plateau. I added just a little more fat and carbs into my diet, maybe 3-400 more calories a day at least, and it started melting off again. Hope this helps.

Weight Loss Frozen Meals Jan 15 2009

I do enjoy the convenience of frozen dinners, but I don't like the sodium. It was probably me that said they were high in sodium...lol. I don't have any problems with blood pressure but I don't want them in the long run. Comparing to the Nutrition panel I'm only supposed to have 1,508mg of sodium daily. You'd be surprised how much sodium is in EVERYTHING. I haven't had a day since the beginning of the year (when I started) that I haven't gone over on my sodium intake...but I'm still learning.

I agree, everyone's body will react differently. I also have the Mirena, and I haven't experienced any problems, per say. I believe it may be making it a little more difficult to lose weight since whenever I would try before birth control it would just melt off of me. I don't have any pain or bloating though. I have had the Mirena for three years in October and I only recently stopped menstruating altogether. Before, it would be very light and very short. I would, as others have said, definitely check with your doctor before removing the Mirena.

It's really not a smart idea to bring someone like that into your life in any way when you have a child living at home. It's not a smart idea to have that kind of person in your life whatsoever. Her daughter has a good head on her shoulders and *Angela* should listen to her. She's already on a bumpy road.

It IS possible to have a regular/heavy period while you are pregnant. I did not discover that I was pregnant with my second child until I was six months pregnant because of this.

marine head - if ur calorie total is 1,442 calories how did you manage to get such high readings of fat/carbs/protein. im guessing this is a typo yeah?

No, the numbers are an average over four days according to cc. It didn't average the fat, protein, carbs etc like it did the daily stats. At least that's how I interpret what cc gave me in the "Analysis" section. I just copied and pasted. Smile

To get the average of the four days, you would need to add the four numbers of your carbs(ex.) and then divide them by four, not add them all together.

My favourite start to the day is a poached egg on a slice of wholewheat toast, followed by a piece of fruit. Works out at under 300cals and keeps me going for hours (plus it's yummy!)

Do you know of any good ways to poach eggs in the microwave without them exploding? I work full time, so I'm usually in quite the hurry in the mornings. My usual breakfast right now is 2 slices of toast, no butter wrapped around 2 Morningstar farms veggie sausage links. Sometimes I'll grab a yogurt or a banana in between breakfast and lunch to keep me going... I try to do the 6 small meals a day thing...

Green tea is from Japan, but the Chinese have their own version too. You don't need sweeteners in green tea. :) It tastes great on its own.

It's ok if you would want a sweetener. Some people just don't like the flavor of plain tea, I know I don't. I'll usually use a packet of sweet n low or some other non-calorie sweetener or a tbsp of real honey. The honey is awesome in hot tea...doesn't work so well in iced tea...

I've done both. I prefer calorie count because I can't afford ww, but byebyepounds had some great ideas! I like cc better because it gives me the breakdown, to where I know exactly what I'm putting into my body and what I'm doing wrong. With WW, my fat intake may have been fine but my sodium intake was SKY HIGH because I ate a lean cuisine meal every day for lunch. Now I know all my basic nutrients, my fiber, my fat, my sodium, cholesterol, etc. It's a better deal if you're willing to do the math, write it down, and check the notes against your analysis every day.

One thing I've done, just the other night...

My four-year old DID refuse to eat meatloaf for the longest time. I make it healthy, 97% lean ground beef, etc. He hates the ketchup. So the other night, I made meatloaf in my muffin tins. When it was time to put the ketchup on the top, I left it off of one and put some low fat shredded cheese in it's place, and called it a meat muffin. He thought that was kinda gross, so I told him it was like a cheeseburger. He gobbled it up, raving about how good it was.... and then I told him it was meatloaf. He was dumbfounded! But now he eats it. Moral to the story... trick your kids into eating it (lol) and then tell them what it is after they proclaim their love. It broadens their horizons and opens their minds to new foods. Adding a little cheese always works. And any high-fat meal can be made into a low-fat one with a few substitutions, that will work with hubby. Smart Taste pasta by Ronzoni is great stuff... for chicken and broccoli alfredo, use that. Saute some mushrooms (optional) and garlic and your chicken in a little olive oil... add in some fat free condensed or evaporated milk, add your spices and seasonings (warning, most kids dont like the dark flecks of dried seasonings)and a little freshly grated parmesan cheese, to taste. Add in some steamed broccoli and there ya go!

Sourdough, French and Italian bread are better tasting than plain white bread, but lower in carbs, fat and calories if your family doesn't like wheat or whole grain.

Low fat cheeses, cream cheese and soups for casseroles, along with leaner meats.

Make your own shake n bake instead of frying.

And the list goes on and on...

(Cauliflower makes a great imitation mashed potato)
