The Lounge Irritating new problem with food log!!! Jul 15 2009

Thanks for responding, I know you now have to wait for the grams to appear in the box, but things were not this way in the past.  I think someone was changing the site so that the advertisements load before the weight information does.  That is not how the site has been loading until the past week.  This is really irritating for me because of the slow connection.  Why should I have to wait for 5 ads before I can enter my food?  I think I will just go elsewhere.  there are plenty of these sites to choose from.

How about getting up twenty minutes earlier.....?

Sorry but  I don't know how this quote thing works and I F ed it all up.

Funny joke, get up 20 minutes early lol ha ha ha!

For a quick breakfast the name says it all: Gogurt!  Of course you can't eat that everyday.  I like the protein shake ideas, I think I will try.  I didn't get breakfast this morning and one of them would've been perfect.

Be reassured by the facts: YOU ARE LOSING.  You are not maintianing or gaining, you are losing.  I have to tell myself that everyday b.c I am also getting close to my goal weight and things are slowing down.  I feel like ripping my hair out because it is sooo slow though! lol

I personally am fearful of bulking up because I am as tall and as wide as a man, I don't need huge muscles making me feel worse.

You are doing a great job, please just think about this time next year (and the rest of your life) when you will be at your goal!  One thing that might help is only weighing yourself once a month.  I can get really upset when I weigh myself to frequently.  Sometime weight can shoot up a pound when you know you ate properly.  And maybe don't expect more than 5 lbs a month.  Wish you the best!

I agree with bier on everything she said, especially that you should be eating in the 2000 calorie range.  Please remember my last post was just an example of how to add the calories up, it was not meant to be your specific program.  Stay healthy!

As far as weight loss is concerned, a calorie is a calorie is a calorie.  Spend more than you eat and you will lose, so your small meals throughout the day now are not necessarily better for losing weight than your eating habits used to be.  As far as your health is concerned, I would think that eating small healthy meals throughout the day would be better than what you used to do (however I don't really know what your habits used to be).  Plus you may feel fuller longer, it really is personal preference.

For your other Q:  Lets say you need to eat 1500 per day to lose 1lb a week.  Add breastfeeding to that, so plus 300 equals 1800.  You need to burn 500 caloris per day, so your burn meter would have to read 2300.  YOu may have to exercise to get to that number (I have too!!!)   If you exercise and burn an extra 200 cals on top of that then the meter would read 2500 and you could choose to eat that 200 or use that burn toward losing more than a pound that week.  Is that clear?

HI, your exercise routine sounds good but you may want to throw in an additional 15 minutes of calisthenics like sit ups, push ups, and squats.  This will build some serious muscle and get you tightened up. It took about 2 months for me to see my butt and gut tighten up, which brings me to my next point: time.  take plenty of it to get yourself to your goal.  If you change your eating to quickly you will feel deprived.  Good luck!

I breastfed both my children and was able to drop weight without seriously cutting calories.  You have a high activity level so don't worry about going below 1800, I personally think you should eat more than that.

One other little thing- try not to be in to much of a hurry, it took 9 months to get where you are so you should give yourself that much time to get back.  Don't get caught up in instant results!

I made the mistake of setting a time frame for my loss- totally disappointing when you don't make it.  Like the blog of the day says: set a big goal but don't constrict it to a specific time frame, aim for about 10% weight loss in 6 months.

I too must have a snack before bed.  I usually have hot tea, if you like sweet then get a sweet one but don't add sugar or honey.  and of course some actual food, I try to keep it healthy and under 100 cals- just enought to take away that hunger pain.  Other wise I lay awake for hours just miserable.  It's way better to eat a little and sleep than to go with out sleep.

Sorry if I repeated anything- i didn't read all the posts!

Don't worry, you are doing well!  I know how it can be agonizing to lose so slowly- just think about this time next year (and the rest of your life!!!!)- when you will be at your goal!

I agree with mommakitty, try to weigh yourself only once a month.  I do it 3 days after my period.  I recently had a scare like you- I was finally in the 170's again (179) and I got a little too excited and started weighing myself like every day and suddenly I was 182- aaaaagh!  I got my period that day lol

Weight Loss Burned Out Jun 10 2009

I am also very limited when it comes to weight training.  I just learned a new tricep exersice that is kicking my butt.  Get into push up postition except bring your hands closer together so they are under your chest but still a good distance apart.  Then do the push up, it should work your triceps. If that is to hard then go on your knees.

I have to switch my workouts up or I get bored, I'd say variety is the key.  You do sound like you need a day off, just let your bod recuperate.  But get right back in!  Whenever I am losing slowly it gets depressing so I try to think of the next year and imagine that I will be done losing by then.

There is so much hidden fat and calories in the foods available today!  It is so easy to drink a couple of pops a week or cook with a little more fat than you think or grab something on the go and suddenly you are gaining.  I think throwing a curve at your metabolism or double checking your measurments  are good ideas also, good luck!

Dear Courtney,

The other suggestions you have gotten are great, but I feel that they are not good to just jump into.  Try to just become aware of what you are eating and cut it down for a couple of months, this way you will NOT end up shocking your body.  I can use my own story as an example, I started counting and realized I was eating about 3,000 cals per day.  So I very slowly cut back- 2200 per day and I continued eating the same foods I was eating but became more aware.  I did that from januarty to february then realized that I needed to make healthier choices and I was ready to do that, also restrict my cals down to 1800.  (1800 was my original goal at the beginning of jan. but I soon realized that was not practical to jump into hence the 2200)

a thought on exercise: you may want to start doing some walking or something to help curb boredom- which is when you would want to eat.  start slow with the exercise too, you can really hurt yourself if you are not careful, then you can't do anything!

I drink tea when I have a terrible craving or sense of deprivation (hot tea).  It has saved me many times!  I think it is ridiculous to cut out all beverages except water unless you have worked yourself up to that point for personal reasons.

One last thing! you will feel like quitting probably over and over, I have many times.  Just keeping going!  It's okay to feel that way or to overeat sometimes, you are human!

hmmm, good tips.  i like the cheerios one, that sounds satisfying.  I'll have to try the gargle thing too.  I like working out before bed for the same reason- you are to tired to do anything but sleep, I could do without the waking up stinky part.  lol

I may have missed if someone mentioned this but you may want to consider your sodium intake.  Also if you weighed yourself at the wrong times, like right before your period, or the night after you drank some alcohol, or in the morning one day then in the evening the next, the number can be misleading.

I think you don't want to eat to much to fast b.c it will screw with your metabolism.  Don't be afraid to count calories again, it will help you!  ( :  It sounds like  you were really healthy before, so I'm sure it will be easy for you to get back in your groove once you get going.

Weight Loss Totally no idea. Help please? May 04 2009
19:29 (UTC)

Hi, you sound just like me! except for one inch taller.  I also quit smoking last year and gained 25 pounds in 3 months, yaaaa!  I couldn't believe it. Now I do 30 to 60 mins of home exercising per day: walking, aerobics, weights, etc.  and I am aiming for a low of 1600 cals per day and a high of 1900.  According to CC I'm burning 1,920 cals per day then I add the exercise on and maybe eat the high end of my limit if I get a real good workout. I have been losing 1 pound per week since january, which is soooo slow but I hardly notice i'm dieting.

Anyway, I'm not saying you should do exactly what I'm doing but I think you are restricting a little to much.  You want to keep your metabolism healthy. If you want to lose faster go for about 2 lbs a week.  That way you will losed about 10 lbs each month.

sandpala (sorry if that is wrong), you were saying that if your lepin levels are low you think you are starving so you eat some nuts to prevent your body from readjusting to maintain at your burn rate.  I think that makes sense if you are sedentary or lightly active, but if you exercise to burn fat then wouldn't that keep your burn rate high no matter if you ate the nuts or not?

I am also mostly confined to the house with my kids.  I love to use Fit TV which is channel 261 for direct tv,  I don't know if you have cable or satellite but if you do check it out.  I usually either do 10 to 11 am or 7 to 8 pm.  They always have a different workout so you always exercise different muscles.

If you don't have that option then other work out dvd's are great too.  I used to use them before I had satellite, but they do get boring after awhile and it stinks when you spend money on a bad one. I have a really good one that I can recommend, let me know if you want the name, I will dig it up.  It is about 45 mins and is low and high impact with plyometrics (is that how you spell it?)

I don't have any equipment other than weights.  I am trying to get outside to bike and walk/run now that it is nice out.

I love Avocado, they are good on sandwiches or added to tacos. I like to just make an avocado burrito with cheese.  I think I mostly eat them with grated garlic on toast or taco shells or chips, although that may be to close to gauc for you.  I can't stand gauc with cilantro and tomato though, if it was prepared that way for you before then you might want to try it a without.
