Yes, the machine asks for for age and weight.  The livestrong.com site lets me input my heart and mileage to get more accurate calories burned.  I still think 310 calories for 35 is great so either way is okay with me.

Motivation Working so hard...but nothing Jan 28 2009

If you are doing any kind of weight training, the scale is giong to fool you on your results.  Take measurements and if you dont' have one already, you should get a scale that also measures your body fat percentage.  Don't give up. I've been working out hard and watching my food intake for 8 weeks and I have only lost maybe 4 lbs because of a lot of muscle gain and my clothes all still fit the same.  And if your weight is only different by a lb or 2, if could be the time of day or you may have a lot of undigested food in your intestines that could be throwing it off.  It could be any number of factors.  Like I said, keep it up.  Its take a good 2 to 3 months to see major result when you're weight training.

Weight Loss Do you think this is healthy? Jan 27 2009

I have a low carb diet and the "carb shock" works like this...at least this is how I did it...

Days 1-5 :  Carbs stay 30 or below (no breads, grains, or sugars unless its natural in fruit - fruit is limited)

Day 6 :  Load on carbs to replenish what you deprived yourself of.  This more or less "shocks" the body and it kicks into overdrive because it was used to running on very few and it doesn't know what to do with them.

Day 7 : Carbs shoul be cut back down to around, but no more than 100.

You'll notice if you're weighing yourself every day that you'll average 5 to 8 lbs a week and about 3 lbs of it actually comes off during day 6 when you load on the carbs because the body works so hard because of the excess carbs.  At least thats how it worked for me.  I also made sure to walk 1 mile every day after dinner on most days so that also helped.

Calorie Count daily calorie target vs calories for weight loss Jan 15 2009

I think that the calorie goal of 1750 is for long term goal weight loss where you'll lose 1 to 2 lbs a week which is only 4 to 8 lbs a month depending on your level of activity.  Cutting down to 1350 is for those who want to see results a lot faster because you'll be burning a lot more than you're taking in.
