Weight Loss Help, I don't know what to do! Oct 21 2009

I am 18, 5'6", and when I started reading your post I thought I could help.  You see, back in January I was 186 pounds.  I am now down to 166.  I lost a bit more than that,  but then gained some back (about 5 pounds), and now am back on the road to getting to 145lbs by January 6th (1 year from my starting date).  Do you see the idea I am getting at?  My goal weight is almost 20 pounds ABOVE your starting weight.  From your picture, you look small framed, but do you realize that 110lbs is UNDERWEIGHT for someone of our height.

I think you need to focus on your health, and not your weight.  It is very hard at this age, but we need to realize that drastically cutting calories is NOT going to solve your body issues.  Keep up your exercise.  It sounds wonderful.  But change your eating pattern.  Eat when you are hungry, stop when you are full, and experiment with healthy options that you can live with for the rest of your life.  Try to set eating and exercise patterns that you will stick to for the rest of your life.

164.4 this morning.  Up .8 lbs.  Not too bad.  It's my TOTM and I have been slacking off this week.  If I want to get under 160lbs before the end of this I need to get on this.  We will have to see, but I know I'll do better next week.

So, I weighed in at 163.6 this morning. I am pretty happy with a 1.2 pound loss. I can't wait to see next weeks weigh-ins.  At this rate, I am well on my way to 154 by August 30!

I weigh everyday.  I like knowning the number.  It doesn't affect how I feel about myself, or my day.  I just like knowning.  I understand that I will fluctuate (up to 3lbs for me) but I love to see that number.  Even if it is a number I am not happy with, I just remember stepping on the scale, and it reading 23 pounds more than what I weigh now.

So, you are recovering from anorexia and you are complaining that your gaining weight?  That doesn't seem like the right way to do things.

My suggestion:  Throw the scale away!

Weight Loss 5'6"/5'7" around 170 lbs calorie intake Jul 08 2009

I try to "add in" about half of my workout calories as a small snack after I workout.  I try to burn 300-350 calories on each of my cardio days.  So, when I do cardio, I try to eat 150-175 calories in a healthy, protein-rich snack after my workout.  This works well for me.  It gives me enough energy, but I feel that I didn't just eat away my workout.

As for me (5'6", currently 164lbs), I eat about 1550-1900 depending on my day. Sometimes  I eat way more. I focus on how my body is feeling based on the food I eat, and not the exact calorie count.  I mostly use calories now to tell me what food I should order at restaurants and for dessert, because those things are very hard to estimate.   It just depend on what you like to do.  If 1600 seems to low, go with 1800-1900 a day.  That, plus some cardio and strength, you should be doing great!

8 weeks works for me. I would like to keep the group small, so if you open it up, only allow a few more people in.  Also, Sundays are still good for me to weigh in.  Smile

When you lose weight, the strecth marks are "earned".  You will be able to say, "I lost xx lbs!"  Weight loss is a journey, and so many people are not strong enough to complete it, but when you lose the weight, you will have overcome what so many people can't.  Be proud of your stretch marks.  They are scars from your struggles.

First, stats:

Age: 18

Height:  5'6"

Starting Weight: 186.6

Current Weight: 165.6

Goal Weight: 135-145 (I'm not sure yet)

But more importantly, I want to be able to get up and run 4 days a week after I finish weight loss.  I want to have exercise incorporated into my life everyday.

Gela-  take a second.  Breath!!! Okay... now, you are doing it all right.  Just give your body time to adjust.  Kick it up another 10 minutes at the gym.  Enjoy your exercise, and let it be a stress reliever. Make it your time to just escape from the stresses of life.  You can do this!
