Weight Loss Help!? Month and a half and nothing. Nov 20 2009

I always feel like when peopel go to answer messages on here that they give you answers that you don't give a flying fig about and harass you for information so they can tell you to EAT MORE calories... which is frustrating, I know...

So here's my answer. You're being real active, right? Think about the fact muscle's going to weigh more than fat. It's true, it does. I've done this, played this game. It's annoying as bloody hell, I know.

So here's the thing. If you're doing everything right, and it sounds like you are, stop weighing yourself. I don't mean all together, just for like... two or three weeks. Do exactly what you're doing, but don't weigh yourself at all, because if you live by the scale you'll drive yourself insane for the first 3 months.

That's my advice.

Are you pregnant? Before you answer that... are you SURE?!

That was the only sign my boyfriend's baby-momma had to clue her in that she was pregnant, seriously she didn't really gain much weight or have her period stop or anything... obviously she missed it... but... if you can't figure out a psychological reason you're binging... you might want to take a test... or see a doctor... or both...

But I'm paranoid... so maybe not.

QUICK QUICK! Relax.

It happens. If you punish yourself for it too much you'll just do it again, you know. Go to the gym, work out as normal and just don't weigh tomorrow.

Guilt is not a healthy motivator.

Weight Loss How do you know what is water weight? Sep 14 2009

Don't weigh daily... it'll drive you batsheitcrazah. For real, like so many things can make you go up like 2 lbs every other day and drop like 6 the next... it's retarded.

In general, as a rule, I consider any sudden, dramatic weight gain to be water weight, though. Realistically I know what I ate... I know if I went over my calories, if I had something particularly sodium filled, etc. Lots of sodium causes water weight (and my affinity for jerky makes that apparent). Going over my calories can cause fat gain.

If you're sticking to the plan, chances are it's water weight. Just forget about it...

But seriously, don't weigh daily. It'll freak you out.

If you're weighing daily, stop. Stop now and never weigh daily again. It will drive you insane. In a single week I could shoot up a grand total of 10 lbs and still be lower than I was by the end of the week. It's all variable.

As for the bodyfat thing, while it's totally possible that you gained fat, I'm still going to vote Negatron on that one Batman. It could be water weight, it could be the beginning of a muscle formation (muscle weighs more than fat, you know), it could just be that you haven't had a bowel movement yet... like... I'm serious there are so many things.

Don't freak. Relax and keep to it. If you're not cheating horrifically then you're probably just having a fluctuation day.

Seriously though. DO NOT weigh daily.

Weight Loss What made YOU realize you HAD to lose weight? Sep 14 2009

I was always told I'd slim out someday naturally. After high school graduation, it didn't happen. I waited and waited and cried a lot whenever I needed to buy clothes because fat people clothes are just horrendous these days...

New Year's came around, which is when my friends and I have our "friend Christmas" as well as a New Year's bash. My friend asked me if I got everything I wanted for Christmas and I caught myself telling him I wished Santa had brought me an eating disorder... That was when I knew I really wasn't happy and that it was getting to a point it could potentially get dangerous, so a couple hours later I finally made a New Year's Resolution to drop some weight...

I didn't pick up an eating disorder, but I did lose weight... 50lbs... not bad, though not goal. My goal was reasonable but just not achievable this year... (It was 75 lbs in 10 months). I'll hold onto my 50 and look forward to losing the other 30 lbs next year. It'll be easier since it'll be less weight. Once I lose that 30, maybe I'll drop another 20 (and yeah I'll still be in a healthy weight range) but I'm not 100% sure yet. I have to see how I look at that point.

My weightloss became a journey to self-betterment... and I'm getting there. ^_^

Weight Loss Addiction or not?? Do you do this too? Help! Sep 14 2009

Relax. It's fine.

They're just twitches, for the most part. Lots of people get them and I got more as I started to get more active and lose weight. It just happens when you get more energy.

Exercise addictions wouldn't be so bad anyway. I was addicted to the gym for a month... back when I could afford it... The only time is gets dangerous is when you start trying to counteract ALL your intake with exercise...

Exercise Bulimia... it's an extreme you don't REALLY want to get to. Trust me here.

Weight Loss Full Fat or Low Fat Sep 14 2009

It totally depends on food.
I ration out my food. Some things just aren't tasty when the calories are removed... like devil's food cake... so if I want something and there's a fat-free option I think about it. Calories VS Flavor.

In general, if I'm going to bother to eat it, it better be delicious, so I'm usually full fat foods... just in smaller portions...

I lurvs full fat foods.

Weight Loss Overcoming chocolate/candy addiction Sep 14 2009

Why would you want to quit chocolate?
It's one of the major reasons I get out of bed each morning (that and needing to go to the bathroom).

Don't let it be a fear food. Your fear foods are your binge foods, and your binge foods shouldn't exist. I used to have an awful time with noodles this way (I'd rather eat real food than dessert any day) so I started keeping lots of noodles ready to be eaten around the kitchen. Then I taught myself to portion my damn noodley cravings.

Once I got my noodle habit under control it just became another food instead of a guilty pleasure habit... I still love noodles, but I can portion them these days, which rocks...

God I love noodles.. and chocolate... and cheese... omigosh can I take a minute to tell you about my love affair with cheese? I'm lactose intolerant and I love cheese... total love/hate relationship there.

I'm not super worried. I know I can drop it down again. I just have to go back to tracking...

Honestly it could have been worse. I've been lots of fritos and cake...
I love fritos...
and cake...

My inner fat kid likes buying new "thin clothes" better though...

Even though I'm up 7 lbs, my pants got bigger... It's confuzzling.

Weight Loss Just went on a week long Easter binge! What should I do? Apr 13 2009

Just get back on the diet... You can't undo what you did... though I could think of great punishments that would strip a few lbs, they aren't healthy.

Go back to your diet and let yourself settle back into what you're supposed to be eating. Forgive yourself, just don't forget. That's all you can really do.

I didn't do as bad as I feel like I did... and most of it will probably melt off by tomorrow...

Binging on fruit wasn't a bad idea that I had, so I did, but eating that much of anything is bound to mess up a diet... and it was irritating... Because it seems like there's always some retarded reason to binge eat the day I find out I'm under 200... Ugh...

Damn Binge Eating Disorder.

Weight Loss diet pills? Apr 09 2009

I swear by PGX (available at Vitmin Cottage). They're just large fiber pills that expand in the stomach and make you feel full sooner. I use them whenever a binge is one the way... or in process. They really do help.

I think they're like... $20 a bottle.

Weight Loss No Matter How Much I Try I Can't Lose Weight. Apr 09 2009
19:33 (UTC)

Well... let's see... I suppose that could count as a plateau, which means you need a jump start. There are a few ways to go about it.

My personal favorite is the binge technique. The idea is to get your weight to move, so you take a day and eat as much crap as you want. McDonalds, Taco Bell, copious amounts of ice cream, whatever you like. If you can get your weight to move up a little bit it'll allow you to move down a lot. I do this every time I hit a plateau. It always works.

Anotehr way, that I'm not as fond of, is to fast for a day. The average person burns about 200 calories a day, which is about 2/3 of a pound, so your body will be forced to lose at least a little bit. You drink nothing but water all day. It's hard to do and not real comfortable, but it helps your stomach return to normal size, as well, which really helps the dieting. Again, I'm not a fan. Also, be sure not to work out that day. i've seen people exert too much energy and bad things happen when you don't eat for a day. The really hard part is not binging the day after... Again, it's not my favorite.

Incorporating milk into your diet could help too... You don't have any information up, so i'm not sure of your stats, but if you're not getting enough fat your body isn't going to want to lose any. I'm lactose intolerant but a cup of soy milk daily has kept me from really hitting a plateau for a while.

Hope that helped.

Weight Loss Sometimes I just get a little frusrated with my family! (removed original title) Apr 08 2009

My mom raised me on crap food and using food to fix everything. Food was a bandage or emotional and physical wounds, it was also the reward for achievements, a great reason to get together with family, and really any excuse you can think of. I picked up on EMOeating, and it's something I've been working really hard to stop doing.

Don't be mad at your mom. Yes, it's hard... But she's unhealthy for a reason too....

And really everything is better with gravy.... EVERYTHING

Turns out that he finally ventured a couple comments.

The first one was that "I knew you were curvy before, but you've defnitely gotten curvier" That sent me to cloud nine. Hahaha

The second wasn't as good "How much weight have you lost? You look great with a few pounds off"

Not well thought out, but it works.

I would suggest evaluating other areas of your relationship where maybe you excel and see if he is ignoring those as well.

Oh I so don't do that anymore... We always end up broken up when I do that. I keep thinking that our relationship should resemble someone else's and then I get upset and we break up and then I realize that our relationship is NOTHING like anyone else's and that's why it works and then we get back together after I've spend like a week in bed eating chocolate frosting out of the can. Lol.

I've already yelled at him... he just stares at me with that "deer in headlights" look and I end up just letting it go. If he were anyone else I'd punch him in the jaw, but he's not just anyone else... Damn him. Hahahaha

Weight Loss constantly hungry Mar 20 2009

Well... I see why you're hungry... At least I see why I would be hungry.

You're missing carbs!!! Eat some bread. Seriously, it'll help, especially at night. Also, start taking a multivitamin, if you don't already. The vitamin keeps your body from craving since it helps ensure you're getting all your nutrients.

Seriously, though. Some carbs would help fill you up. Cup of rice, some pasta... something that will expand in your stomach. If you're not down with carbs, buy some PGX (Vitamin Cottage). It's a massive fiber pill that expands in your stomach. It really helps. If you're on meds or taking vitamins, you'll have to start taking them at night, though... The bottle explains.

Oh... dear. Been there, done that. ^_^ It's not so hard to recover, I promise.

Just get back on the wagon and throw in some exercise. You'll be up some, but it will come off pretty fast (since it's new).

Don't worry. We all slip. I had a stare down contest with a giant cookie... and lost. Hahaha.

Weight Loss i just binged on lots of chocolate! HELP!! IDEAS on how to stop the crave? Mar 12 2009

Switch to dark bittersweet chocolate chips. Take some, melt it down, fill some ice cube trays with it and freeze. The bittersweet flavor keeps you from eating a lot of it, but you still get your chocolate fix.

I had to switch to milk chocolate because I absolutely love bittersweet chocolate. The milk chocolate is too sweet for me to eat much of it. I keep some in my freezer at all times. It really does help.

Weight Loss Is it alright to eat under my calorie goal for one day? Mar 12 2009

I tend to get IBS-D. In order to keep my calories up, I drink a lot of soup. It helps your condition and keeps you eating the right amount of calories, but without the irritation of having to actually eat, ya know?

Just in case your IBS-C acts up more than once a week (^_^)
