| Pregnancy & Parenting | Calorie Counting When Pregnant | Mar 25 2009 21:22 (UTC) |

I am now about 8 weeks pregnant, second child, and whoa did I gain the first time around. I was an excessive sweller too, thanks to Taco Bell. I weighed in at 180 right before I gave birth and dropped most of that weight through breastfeeding and staying active/diet modification postpartum. It was not until this January that I became resolute about losing the last 20 pounds, and that's when I joined here and started calorie counting. Well, lost about 5 pounds in Jan. and then found out I was pregnant in Feb. I start bloating the moment after conception, no matter how much water I drink and how much fiber I eat. So, I'm back at my 147 pound start weight, which is acceptable for me I guess. My goal is to continue my exercise program: 2-3x cardio per week and lots of preggo safe yoga and some weight training. Hopefully I can maintain this weight into the 2nd trimester. I find I am ravenously hungry during pregnancy though. And carrot sticks just don't fill me up. Good luck to all the other preggie moms! |

My goals are very similar to yours! I weighed 150, I'm 5'5", and I want to get down to about 125-130. This was my weight pre-baby, and I have gained a lot of tummy weight. My daily calorie intake (suggested by the meters on this site) is 1700. Eating high fiber foods helps me feel full, and I try to space them out over 4-5 meals a day. I've only lost about 2 pounds in two weeks, but I've worked out almost daily and dramatically changed my diet. I have managed to stay under 2000 calories on average -- some days I take in 2000-2300, but then the next day I may only eat 1500. I listed myself as moderately active -- I do some weight training 3x/week and workout until about 35 min. of intense (sweating and breathing heavy!) cardio 4-5/week. If I had to guess, I'd say I'm losing slowly for a number of reasons: I've put on a lot of muscle, I drink about 96 oz. water daily, and I am not dead set on losing it quickly but evenly. My jeans are already looser and my tummy much trimmer -- it must be fat loss and muscle gain evening out.
Good Luck and keep at it!

| Weight Loss | what's better juice or diet soda??? | Jan 14 2009 16:06 (UTC) |

Here's my experience with diet soda: I was a caffeine-aholic and until about 4 months ago drank 2 cups of coffee + 3-4 diet drinks a day. Regardless of the diet drinks, I was eating McDonald's and whatever I wanted all through the holidays and finally cut back on both due to migraines more than a need to lose weight. I am now on the no juice, no diet drinks plan, I eat fresh fruit daily, and I only have 1-2 cups coffee for caffeine intake. (And my diet no longer includes fast food or junk food.) I feel TREMENDOUSLY better, migraines have occurred less often, and I don't have that bloated feeling I used to have. Artificial sweeteners scare me, but so does high fructose corn syrup! Like others have noted, I hate to take in so much calories with so little nutritional value. My daughter drinks half Juicy Juice half water ... if you can get used to the taste, maybe that's an option. I drink water all day long (after my coffee!)-- no bloating, fuller feeling, peppier, much better than results from sodas.
Good Luck!

Did they check your gallbladder? I had mine removed about 9 months after giving birth to my first child. Your gallbladder is on the right side and many people have pain soon after eating. I would vacillate between having diarrhea and being constipated. May not be the prob. w/you at all, but thought it was worth mentioning.
