Mirena does contain a small amount of hormones. I, personally, have not experienced weight gain with it, nor has anyone I know that has it. But that doesn't mean it's not possible. Paraguard does not contain hormones, if long-term bc is what you're looking for, but it's made with copper. |

At the very least, until you find out for sure, you should make decisions as if you are pregnant. Just in case. So don't smoke, drink, etc, and keep yourself healthy. However, there are a lot of reasons why you haven't had a period. Or, you could just have very low levels of the preganancy hormone that they test for. Some women have the sore breasts and morning sickness with pregnancy, or the sickness and abdominal pain could be due to some other gyne problem. Either way, this is something that you really need to explore with your OB/GYN. |

| Health & Support | Advice? Mirena IUD & Mini-Pill | Apr 20 2009 04:07 (UTC) |

The mini-pill may be a good option for you if you want shorter term birth control. The main drawback, however, is that it is VITAL that you take your pill at the same exact time every day, or else you could become pregnant. So if you're very structured and organized, it could be an option for you. I have a Mirena IUD, and I friggin' love it. You do have to have already had a child, though, and it's a little pricey to have it placed, but it's cheaper in the long run if you use it for all or most of the 5 or 7 years that it's good. It was a little uncomfortable to be placed (like a pap test, but the dr has to dilate your cervix, so there's some mild cramping), and you have to go back to have the strings trimmed. I spotted for a little bit after it was placed, but then I stopped having periods. It's awesome, and I don't have to worry about it. There are risks, however, which are clearly laid out in the literature. The IUD could, potentially, perforate your uterus or become displaced. Have you looked into the depo shot? That's pretty low-maintenance also. But that's all just my opinion/experience. Of course you should discuss your options with your doctor, but familiarize yourself with the choices out there. Just from what you've said, my impression was that 1) the "way you were" on BC freaked him out and now he's rethinking spending the rest of his life with you after he saw the "bad" side. He may just not be ready to be married, and experience the entire "for better or for worse." 2) he's just under a lot of stress and since he feels secure with you, he's neglecting your relationship. I wouldn't immediately jump to what you may have done. Odds are it's not you at all. If it continues, and if he won't give you a clear signal, then you could either seek counseling (maybe for both, or maybe for just you if he won't go) or cut your losses, which it doesn't sound like you want to do. Good luck. In the meantime Try not to worry (I know) cos if it is just stress then you fussing over him is only going to stress him out more. But maybe a guy could provide better insight? |

The fish at sushi bars is "sashimi grade." It is, I believe, flash frozen (to kill parasites). Typically, fish sold in grocery stores is prepared in such a way because it is assumed it will be cooked. Maybe if you get fresh-frozen (is that the same as flash frozen?). I'd talk to your fishmonger. |

I've found paypal to be extremely safe. A little annoyingly so when you want to change profile info, actually, but that's a good thing. I have them linked. Paypal won't do anything without your prior knowledge and approval. |

Original Post by gadzooks: Try Fruity Cheerios! I bought a box for my daughter and then Mommy ended up eating most of the box! I eat oatmeal every morning. Quaker Oats has envelopes of "Weight Control" (higher protein and fiber, and larger portion size) that I just throw in my bag and eat when I get to school or clinical sites. It's awesome and sticks with you well until lunch. |

| Weight Loss | How often do YOU weigh yourself??? | Feb 07 2009 15:51 (UTC) |

Original Post by samismilexx: I do the same thing. I only record and pay attention to my first weight of the morning (it keeps me on track, or motivates me to eat better/exercise more. Then for the rest of the day, if I walk by a scale, I weigh myself. Just to see. If I'm at the hospital (I'm a nursing student) that can be several times a day. My big thing, though, is weighing myself before/after I use the bathroom. It's kind of gross, but my bf and I both do it. I think if what your scale reads makes you "reward" yourself by over eating (which is no reward at all!) or freaks you out and makes you restrict, you should maybe only weigh once a week. Like everyone else said, though, that trend line is the biggest tell. My blue line kind of spikes up and down, but as long as that trend line keeps falling I'm a happy girl. I starting dieting January 7th. SW: 274. Today: 259. 15 pounds down! |

I got my Mirena April of 2008. It sucked for about 6-8 weeks. I bled for almost the whole time. The emotional aspects you're describing sound like maybe you're having issues with the hormone in it. I suggest you wait a couple months and see if your body adjusts to it. And I know you said you just don't feel like being active, but that will help your mood quite a bit (good ol' endorphins!). The exception being that if you get so down in the dumps that you start to feel like you just don't care about yourself anymore. If that happens, you need to talk to your doctor. |

| Weight Loss | Questions about stretchmark and skin hanging down | Jan 21 2009 23:10 (UTC) |

Original Post by sweetvalleygirl: Me too! I had my boyfriend slathering the "Tummy Butter" on my constantly! Still... major stretch marks on my stomach to match the ones on my hips and arms from puberty. Creams don't do anything but keep your skin moisturized. So you get the same effect from a $5 bottle of lotion as you would an $85 bottle. Last time I lost a lot of weight (about 80 pounds, before gaining it all back with pregnancy), I had issues with that arm wattle thing, and I was 20 years old. I just lost weight faster than my body could adjust. They eventually shrank up. So try to moisturize, both inside and out. If you have the new, red stretch marks - vitamin E oil will get them to the white stage faster. |
