I think Bob was way out of line!  This is not how (most) personal trainers behave.  In this case, it worked out, but his (and Jillian's) methods would not work for me.  I think they give people the wrong impression of what an experience with a personal trainer is like.

I think it would be a good idea to consult with a nutritionist or dietician.  The body building books are too generalized for the most part.

A good book to read is Your Body Your Life Yourself.  I personally know the guy who wrote it.  He has a personal weight loss story.  He lost 180 pounds naturally.  It's an inspiring and motivating story.  He's helped me lose 40 pounds so far.  It's a new book but it's online through his publisher, Tate Publishing.

Good luck!

Ditto to theholla.

I have a cheat meal every other Sunday.  I don't take the whole day off.

Love the show but hate the way Jillian treats the contestants.  People may think that's what all trainers are like.  They are not.
