Original Post by educator1: Hi, If you feel that "splurging" is stupid...then by all means...please don't do it. I don't even know you, but I still don't want you doing anything stupid. I would have to question the reasoning ability of anyone who likens having a night out at a restaurant or a piece of cake to Heroine addiction...and if you truely feel that way about it, you should'nt have cake or dinner.... :-D Now with that said and out of the way, let me add this: while I can't speak for the reasons that made anyone else fat I can tell you loads about me...starting with the fact that: I've "Earned" self indulgence, and I feel free to indulge every Saturday...and one other thing.... I've never been fat. Was I heavier than I wanted to be? Yes. Did I need exercise in my life? Yes. Am I presently working on those things? Yes. And most importantly of all: Do I have a life plan to stay healthy and in my "desired" weight range? Yes. Power to all those who have the sense and sensibility to not go "over the edge".... |

Hi, I'm a firm believer in the "Splurge Day". My personal splurge day is Saturday and I get to have this day if I've stuck to my routine of exercise and diet all week long. the splurge day keeps me going. On Saturdays I don't count calories, and I have whatever I want to eat and drink (within reason...of course). If I want a piece of cake...I'll have one, if I want to have a drink or two or three...then I will, if I want movie popcorn, then I'll have it, and I always go out to dinner on Saturday...always. maybe not always to an expensive restuarant...(this past Saturday, we simply had pizza at the mom and pop in our neighborhood), but always dinner out.... My key is that I only eat it if I want it...not simply because it's there...I eat till I'm not hungry anymore...and I don't eat when I'm not hungry....oh and almost just as important...if I taste it and don't really really like it....then I don't eat it. |

Hilarious... I just sulked on down to the basement and got on the treadmill... lolol |

Oh look! you're in CT! I'm in NY (Pawling) not far from Danbury...snow day for us here too...but I did have to work from home though in order to save PTO. My kids are home too...and they're making chicken nuggets and fries and junk like that...but that's ok...I had tea... isn't that funny? lol |

Nah...you couldn't have gained all that weight in one night...you had 5 drinks...it's a known fact that alcohol causes water retention, so there's that...and then you had a late meal that your body probably hasn't had enough time to digest....don't be scared...no one can gain weight that fast...and plus you worked out.... (there...there...you're ok... I'm thinking this in my head...with my reassuring "mom voice"....it's usually meant to soothe) no really...you are OK |

Hey! Technically 5 or 6am is not the middle of the night...it's actually the morning...and not so early morning for some of us. I would agree with the last poster about maybe getting on up and doing some kind of exercise...You could do something light until it's actually time to eat breakfast...start your day earlier...you might burn more calories during the day as well...just from getting on up a little earlier...

Do you give yourself something to look forward to? Like maybe one day that you can relax a little and eat some of the things you like without guilt? It seems that you were doing very well...you deserved a reward...did you give yourself a reward? As for the 100 calorie packs...treat them like you would treat any other food..."Choose Wisely" I personally only buy the 100 calorie pack hostess chocolate cake/icing...they are small...but not so small that you don't get your chocolate fix...and an added plus is that the richness makes me kind of thirsty...so I always end up drinking a big cup of water afterwards....to me the other 100 calorie snacks are just a "set up". Maybe try this plan: If you stick to your regimen all week, no cheating...you get to have a day on the weekend that you can relax and have what you want to eat...within reason..meaning...it is ok to have a piece of cake...(not the whole cake)....it is ok to have a slice of pizza (not the whole pizza)....etc. pretty much keep the same rules that you have during the week...(like eating 3 meals, and a snack or two...so that you don't get too hungry and eat up everything...but in this case you are just not worrying about the types of food...keep your portions in mind... For me, doing this gives me something to look forward to. So I stick to it...knowing that I have this reward coming... I hope this helps you... |

Good Idea mmmxxxiii!...I don't suppose I can go wrong with that formula...and it has worked in the past. and amethystgirl it does feel good to know that I am not the only one who is stumped by the tools. I mean a person wants to be able to incorporate everything the site has to offer...but it is not easy figuring some of this stuff out. I am sure it's no one's fault in particular...I kind of liken it to writing a Standard Operating Procedure....sometimes you don't know if the procedure will work smoothly until you have a group of different people to use it...and then a little while down the line is when you realize that maybe something could have been explained a little better or worded differently. But all of you guys are great...it's good to have people willing to jump in and help you out, no matter what the problem is...and no one made me feel like dummy...because I didn't know...that helps too...I love this site.

Thanks!...these kids run me ragged!...I've been to 3 sporting events this week already! and that Wrestling match...(I went to today) was enough to give any mother a heart attack...I was soo scared that some kid was going to get hurt.. afterwards it was quite funny...I can only imagine my facial expressions...it seemed as if they were breaking every rule in the "Mother's Handbook of Things You Don't Let Your Kids Do" LOL |

I think all of you guys might be on to something....Now I did as Iamacommitmento said at first...and set myself to sedentary...and just added in activities...and that is fine except for one thing: when you are trying to calculate how many calories you should be limiting yourself to when trying to lose weight...if you use the sedentary level on the calorie tool....it gives you only 1200 calories...(if you have an aggressive date)....but if you are exercising...it would seem that what angelaoshua is saying might be the better option...because...let me tell you....1200 calories is just not cutting it for me...I am sitting during the day...but I have a rigorous day..and I am not having enough energy to make it..... |

Thanks for the feedback...but it still seems unclear to me...See... the only thing is that to me "Light Exercise" is just that. For instance walking your dog...or walking a couple times around a track...I would never break a sweat doing either of those things...but technically it is moving, thus it is exercise... But on the other hand I would consider any exercise that causes a vigorous sweat to be more than just light exercise. And then....the two sets of descriptions are different...(1 set is for the account settings) and the other set is for (calorie intake). They are inconsistent, which makes figuring it out a little harder. This is my lifestyle: up at 4:30am (work out from 4:45 to about 5:25am) get ready for work, commute, work all day at a computer...go back towards home, check out one of my kids playing some sport...(3 kids doing 3 different things) come home and fix dinner for everyone...family interaction...and then it's bed time...around 9 pm or so...I rarely get to watch TV or sit quietly...at home...but none of these things qualify as heavy housework...so basically the only quiet time I see is at work... |

Hi, Although I don't have a scientific answer to your question...what I will say is this: I believe if you are strict with your diet at least 6 days a week...you should be able to eat pretty much whatever you like on Saturday or Sunday. I do need to add that I am assuming you are exercising fairly often. I do this myself, I exercise 6 days a week...for about 35-40 minutes. On Saturday I exercise slightly longer...and the rest of the day I eat and drink whatever I like. I am still losing weight. |

| Health & Support | Eating a lot of calories in first hour of day | Jan 13 2009 16:29 (UTC) |

JMHO...Normally I would think that eating the biggest meal in the morning would not be a problem. I read an article in Men's Health about a guy who does this...He eats this big huge breakfast... and then gradually whittles his caloric intake down throughout the rest of the day...so that his last meal of the day is pretty much just a snack, having said this though I thoroughly realize that everything is not for everyone....and it would seem that in your case, one would probably need to consider the fact that you have had to deal with an eating disorder in the past. I don't know how these things work, honestly I don't (and I'm just trying to help) but part of my day job consists of considering all factors that may or may not contribute to higher risk, and it would seem that based upon what you said about your history...it might be better if you continue to keep the eating pattern you were on before winter break. |
