The Mazda CX7 would probably be most like your 3 in character of all the available SUVs & crossovers. The Ford Taurus X would have the room, decent fuel mileage and actually has a Volvo derived drivetrain. Most of the midsize SUVs, American or otherwise, get terrible gas mileage. If you don't haul a huge amount of weight or tow a trailer, you'll probably want to choose a crossover ( car based) over an SUV(truck chassis). Beyond that, collect as much info. as you can, Motortrend, Car & Driver, Road & Track mags all have websites, Autotrader & Cars.com have good research info. |

I'll go against the grain a little bit here. Intervals are a good way to quickly build speed and endurance. One of the methods Dr Kemmeth H. Cooper incorporates into his programs is a series of 1/2 mile intervals. Starting with 3 reps, he recommends a one-minute rest between intervals. I'm guessing you might start at about a 4:00 min per 1/2 mile and build from there in speed and # of intervals. Dr Cooper includes this within a program of steadily increasing steady-paced runs. The intervals are used probably once per two weeks to start, and more frequently as you progress. Then you'll add shorter faster intervals also (440's). I'm sure Dr. Cooper has info available on the web. Lots of the stuff in places like Runner's World follows his methods pretty closely also. Yeah, shoes are also hugely important, see if you can find a shop that provides gait analysis. |

Back to the original question. Yes, definitely unfair. If it applied equally to all segments of the population I could support it. From what I can see here it's just another seperate and unequal bone being tossed out to keep us attacking each other. |

The meaning of the name Satan is "Accuser". As such, in the first part of the book of Job he was shown as having access to go before God to make accusations against humans. He makes an appearance early in the book of Genesis as a serpent to persuade Eve to do the one and only thing that God had prohibited. The next best Old Testament descriptions come from Isiah & Ezekiel From Isaiah ch. 14; 12"How you have fallen from heaven, And from Ezekiel ch 28; "You had the seal of perfection, This passage shows his removal as one of the highest of the Angels to become an adversary of God. In the new testament Jesus spoke about him numerous times, spoke with him on occasion, and dealt with him at times throughout his ministry on Earth. I take the words of Jesus and the written accounts of his life and work as authoritative. The disciples also wrote about Satan and warned us to be aware of his workings. It is true that we can be evil enough on our own without any further influence, but he can add another dimension to what humans are capable of.

Original Post by gi-jane: A little clarification for those who try to quote the bible without knowing it. 32Noah was (H)five hundred years old, and Noah became the father of Shem, Ham, and Japheth. 5Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that (D)every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6(E)The LORD was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was (F)grieved in His heart. 7The LORD said, "(G)I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the sky; for (H)I am sorry that I have made them." 11In the (K)six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on the same day all (L)the fountains of the great deep burst open, and the floodgates of the sky were opened. 12(M)The rain fell upon the earth for forty days and forty nights. 4In the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, (F)the ark rested upon the mountains of Ararat. 11"I establish My covenant with you; and all flesh shall (J)never again be cut off by the water of the flood, (K)neither shall there again be a flood to destroy the earth." 12God said, "This is (L)the sign of the covenant which I am making between Me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all successive generations; 13I set My (M)bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a sign of a covenant between Me and the earth. 14"It shall come about, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow will be seen in the cloud, 15and (N)I will remember My covenant, which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and (O)never again shall the water become a flood to destroy all flesh. 28Noah lived three hundred and fifty years after the flood. 29So all the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years, and he died.
Even more outrageous than you remembered, Noah lived to be 950 yrs old. If you must claim contradictions in the bible, prepare yourself to show me some. Why do most ancient civilations have a remarkably similar flood story. 2 things here, most Cristians, unfortunately, don't know enough about what they say they believe. And, sometimes I wish the Bible spelled eeverything out in greater detail. Two reasons why I believe it's written as it is; one is so that people who want to choose to not believe can do so. Two is so that we have to look beyond to nature and history to see the full story. For this reason, I hope I'm not precluded from the thread, or the classroom. Flood story in a nutshell; World God created turns bad; Noah finds favor with God. God destroys life on the planet, saves Noah & his wife 3 sons and their wives for a total of 8. And a boatload of animals. 7God made the [c]expanse, and separated (N)the waters which were below the expanse from the waters (O)which were above the expanse; and it was so. This passage from Genesis Ch. 1 is one of the keys. It indicates there was a layer of water above the atmosphere as well as oceans below. Then there was a greenhouse effect, and the entire Earth was a tropical paradise. Two things would be affecte by that, uv energy would be reduced, that's the primary cause of aging on the planet, right? Carbon 14 is caused by Nitrogen being broken down by UV rays, so if used to date objects from before the flood, their ages would be exagerrated. One more thing, The promise of the Rainbow after the flood indicates that one had never been seen prior. Another argument for the layer of water high in the atmosphere. And, God's explanation of seasonal changes for the first time. Which leads some of us to beleive this catastrophy might've been initiated by a comet or asteroid strike which also changed the Earth's axis. So, a catastrophic event, huge amount of additional water on the planet, accelerated techtonics, massive depositions as the waters receded. Cold weather at the poles locking up much of the water as ice (ice age). Or you can continue to beleive that everything happened at the same rate that we see happening today. It seemed that the instructor in my Historical Geology class in college had to spend about 95% of his teaching time denying the possibility of a global flood. What do we see on the surface of the planet, extremely deep sedimentary layers with huge amounts of dead things buried under them. Slow deposition over an extremely long period of time would not produce a huge layer of dead things without an extinction event. This one's way too long already, I'll let it go for now.

So, the real question is the dirrerence in the time scale, and again, if we want to make the grand assumption that everything in ages past happened at the same rate that it is happening now, you can come up with a relatively long time scale. Unless you factor in inconvenient things like earthquakes, volcanoes, glaciers, large scale storms and astronomical objects striking the Earth. BTW; Take a look at Darwin's bio and see what he studied in college. |

First we need to distinguish the two parts to the theory of evolution. The "macro" which explains the origin of life from spontaneous generation through a continuum of increasing complexity. "Micro" evolution concerns a species adapting to its environment, but not becoming a newer more complex species. The part of evolution that we as Christian can believe is micro. Organisms can become antibiotic resistant, animals can change color over time, birds can develop longer beaks. But, the evidence of species changing into more complex life forms, the transitional forms, is lacking. That's where I can look at the evidence available and say there's not enough to convince me. I was confused for a long time well into my college carreer in my understanding of the scientific method. The problem was, I was always hearing the words"evolution" and "scientific method" in the same sentence. I fanally realized that there was no connection between the two. True science comes to us in two forms, observational and experimental. Evolution does not fit into either. Except for the change within a species. Beyond that it is yet another grand assumption and even a religion of its own to many. About the cavemen, I think they are heavily underrated. Did they live in those caves permanantly? I would suggest not. They most likely lived in structures above ground that deteriorated over time. And they used the caves when traveling or hiding from enemies. The "Iceman" from 5300 years ago had a bow and finely crafted arrows that would be hard to surpass even with our modern aluminum or composite pieces. He also had a copper-headed axe. The big-bang is pretty well established, actually, space is a vacuum, so it doesn't carry sound, and if it did there was nobody there to hear it. With the possible exception of God himself. What were his first words in the bible?"Let there be light". Then for anything significant to be produced from the big bang, a precisely ordered series of split-second events had to happen. That's what they were examining with that Large Hadron collider experiment in Europe last year. I won't try to explain, it see the article in Science Illustrated from Sep. 08. Expect more to follow soon from one of the odd lot who takes the bible literally.

Original Post by santonacci: Interesting, so the word of God is written on our hearts! 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the (D)author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him (E)endured the cross, (F)despising the shame, and has (G)sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:2 This is all true, as I read John Ch. 17 among other passages. Jesus knew the big picture, where he was before, what was coming after, a short time of intense suffering. There seems to be some information he did not have access to at this particular time, the day and hour of his return, and what he would find when he did return. He only had his small group of not-so-quick-to-grasp-his-concpts desciples to carry on his work after he left the planet. He asked himself at least once"When the son of man returns, will he find faith on the Earth?"After a couple of visits from the resurrected Christ and some help from the Holy Spirit, the disciples did a remarkably job of expanding the movement throughout the known world. Since then, we've had fits and starts and apparently need more time to complete the mission. |

The bible's not against interracial marraige, it's against believers marrying unbelievers. Everyone has broken the 10 commandments. That's what made it necessary for Jesus to take our sins upon himself and take our punishment. Since keeping the commandments is beyond our ability, the alternative offered to us, freely given by God is to believe in Jesus Christ. At that point our sin is put upon him, and his righteousness is applied to us. The passage that spells it out most simply is John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Yes it is an exclusive statement, but I know of no other belief system where the central figure offered up himself as the sacrifice for mankind.
