Fitness Wii Fit? Apr 24 2009

Well we got our wii fit the other night, and I have to say that so far I love it. I really like to track things (calories, weight loss, etc), so I like it a lot for that. I was so exited when my little Mii ended up falling into the "normal" category for weight!

I'm not sure how far it'll take me as far as strength training goes, but I do really like the yoga. The balance tools help you figure out if you're doing the pose correctly or not. Made me want to get my yoga dvds back out. I'd almost be okay with my weight if I could just tone up some.

Anyway, if you're  a geek like me I recommend the Wii Fit. The Body Test program is pretty cool.

Weight Loss What's Your Biggest Problem You're Having Losing Weight? Feb 25 2009

Just curious... what would be the single biggest problem you're having losing weight?

For me, right now its finding the time to get in the gym.

What about you?

Bonus questions: Whats your primary motivation? What triggers you to get to the gym, eat right etc. etc.?

Our friends! We do excellent on nights that we cook dinner at home. But once or twice a week all of our friends will want to go out to eat, and it's down to the pub with the beer battered fries and cheeseburgers. I feel like it really sets me back. I want to go see everyone, but I want to eat healthily too.

I've eaten extremely well this week (and the scales are showing it) but we're going skiing this weekend and I know it'll be beer and bbq all weekend.

I'm 17 years old, 5'3.5" and I weigh 130 lbs. I lost some weight WAY back in October.. got down to 120 lbs, and I felt very happy at that weight. But I did it a bit unhealthily, this was before I got informed... so I was eating maybe 800-1100 cals a day, exercising somewhat normally.. like walking for an hour 3-4 times a week, nothing serious.

Anyway, I lost about 10 lbs in October and some of November... probably too quickly. Then after Christmas I was maintaining... didn't diet, just exercised.. but I wasn't really eating much and was disappointed that I hadn't lost anything, I actually gained a bit. In januaryI realized I had been eating too little in Oct and Nov ..so I upped my calories to about 1500--1700 cals a day for all of January. My weight stayed the same at about 122-123lbs. Now I've started consciously dieting, recording my food and stuff.. staying at about 1400--1600 cals now. AND I'M GAINING. I've gained about 7 or 8 pounds in two weeks. My sodium intake is NORMAL and I've been exercising and eating relatively "clean". I just finished my period a few days ago, I thought it was bloating due to that, but my weight has not budged. so my cycle has nothing to do with it.

I don't understand!!!! My goal is to be back down between 115--120lbs. But at the rate I'm going, that's not going to happen. please, please help me!

I'll probably be informed that I have an eating disorder for saying thing, but I think you're eating too much. Try to drop back to around 1200-1300 calories a day.

Did you use the calorie calculator to figure out how much you should be eating a day?

um well to answer your question... honestly anywhere from zero on some days to like probably a couple thousand if I'm having a bad day. I have more fasting days than binging days but I rarely have a normal day, like as in 3 meals a day 1200 calories or whatever the recommended number is... yeah that like never happens. I really tried to eat normally today actually... and I did ok for a while but then I ended up binging. idk its like its all or nothing for me and theres no in between.

Fasting is probably one of the worst things you can do for yourself. 0 calories for a day? Your body thinks you're starving. If your body thinks that you're starving, then you've got more problems than your skin and hair.

I'm not someone who advocates over eating to lose weight. This site, and several posters here, think I have an eating disorder because I aim for 1200 calories a day. But what I'm getting at is that you need to eat, and eat consistently. Not just for weight loss, but for overall health.

It's no wonder that you binge if you go entire days without consuming any calories. It's important to keep your body on an even keel. Feed yourself. It's not that difficult.

Especially hair bc ever since I started dieting my hair has gotten alot drier and is a lot less shiny than it used to be. Frown My skin too. I notice once I get down to a certain weight it starts looking pale.

Thanx. I'm new by the way Hi! Smile

I notice an awesome difference in my skin and hair when I make it a point to eat a serving of almonds every day. They're really filling too.

Foods What do you eat at a mexican resturant on CC? Feb 20 2009

I had a mexican downfall last night. We all went out to celebrate one of our friend's birthdays. She originally wanted to go to this new Italian place. So I got online, figured out how many calories I'd need for spaghetti and marinara sauce and planned my day accordingly. Got a call on the way home from work that the Italian place was not in fact open yet, so she wanted to go to Rio to eat Mexican.

I swear, I'd do okay at Mexican places if it weren't for the truckloads of chips and salsa. ~crazy~

Weighing was like an epiphany when i started! And, I actually get to eat more lean meats than i would have otherwise guessed. weighing and measuring are key. its all about knowledge. you cant make good choices if you aren't in touch with reality! :D

I really think I might get a food scale. It seems like a lot of people on here use them and like them. Maybe that will be my prize for my next ten pounds.

Maybe I'm doing it wrong but due to the way I have to budget calories for a decent sized supper, I don't really eat a big breakfast. No big deal, because I'm normally not hungry anyway.

I wish I had time to actually cook breakfast in the morning. Usually I can get down a bowl of cereal, but if I'm running late I'll just bring two slices of bread and a wedge of laughing cow cheese to work with me and pop them in the toaster when I get here.

Ditto on the laughing cow, spray butter and turkey everything. I didn't know 35 calorie bread existed! I'll be looking for it on my next shopping trip!

I don't know if it's available everywhere. The local bakery makes it here - Heiners, but it's available at all the grocery stores and Wal-Marts and Targets around here.

I remember the commercials from when I was little, "35, only 35 calories on you!" with people jumping on and off of scales with bunny slippers on. I thought it was a riot.

Ditto on the Laughing Cow Cheese. That on two piece of 35 calorie bread makes my breakfast most days of the week. Super easy to pack for work too.

Spray butter. Awesome on veggies and rice for a whopping 0 calories!

Berries. Thanks to berries mid morning and mid afternoon I spend less than 100 calories a day on snacking! I had no idea what a huge difference this would make, shooting for a 1200 calorie day.

35 calorie bread. Two slices for 70 calories? A steal, I tell you.

Veggie Steamers. Veggies in the microwave for 7 minutes give you a 50 calorie +/- side dish.

GOOD MORNING:

MY NIECE WENT ON THIS DIET AND SHE WENT FROM 260 POUNDS DOWN TO 128 POUNDS, AND SHE HAS SO FAR KEPT IT OFF, ONLY DIET THAT EVER WORKED FOR HER.

SHE LOOKS GREAT, HAS KEPT WEIGHT OFF FOR 1 YEAR NOW, IF SHE GAINS 5 POUNDS SHE GOES BACK ON FOR A FEW DAYS, THEN OFF IT COMES, AND SHE EATS OUT A LOT NOW, BUT SHE WATCHES HER WEIGHT CLOSE.

I HAVE STARTED IT TODAY

I WEIGHT 160 POUNDS, AND WANT TO GET BACK TO 125, WILL LET YOU KNOW.

DEE

I have no idea why anyone would subject themselves to this when they can achieve the same results, in healthier format with calorie restriction.

I'm convinced that calorie counting is the only way to lose weight and keep it off. If you eat less calories than you burn, you'll lose weight. 100% mathematical fact right there, folks.

Foods Health, Low Calorie Breakfast & Lunch? Feb 09 2009

I used to eat a peanut butter sandwich for breakfast. Two slices of 35 calorie bread, and two tbsps of peanut butter is a 260 calorie breakfast - not bad if you find you need more calories later in the day.

Try packing a snack other than a protein bar. My mid morning snack is usually half a cup of blackberries and half a cup of raspberries. Mid afternoon snack is usually 6 or 7 strawberries and a rice cake or something on par with that. That's stuff that's not really hard to pack - but it's still a low calorie snack.

Don't be a 'Desert Island Dieter'.... the kind of person that thinks their weight would be perfect if only they could steal away to a desert island with no onion-ring-eating friends, no 'amazing cheeseburgers' and the services of a personal chef to rustle up your exact calorie target each day in a series of thrilling meals....

Life ain't like that...

Successful and long-term weight-control means finding a way to be able to socialise normally & enjoy the occasional cheeseburger (which is healthy btw) without feeling you've 'sabotaged' anything. It means finding that happy medium whereby you don't need to rely on 'strict discipline' 24/7 in order not to consume a pile of Nilla Cakesters . I agree with lalabanana... 1200 cals sounds low. Be careful that 'strict discipline' doesn't mean that you're trying to starve yourself thinner. (Those extra low-cal days when the scales go up half a pound, for example) Because if you are, all that will happen is that one day you'll hit your target and not only go find yourself knee-deep in cakesters but also the cheeseburger and the onion rings by way of blessed relief.

I've done the calorie count calculator here several times and it always tells me that my target is 1200 a day.

I don't weigh 200 pounds. Even if I did the calorie calculator says I'd only need 1350.

I've struggled with my weight my entire life. Discipline, daily weigh ins and 1200 calories a day are what has worked for me. Different strokes for different folks.

If I'm up a pound or half a pound , then it's a super low calorie day.

Which is the best argument against daily weighing there is.....

Eh, I've lost a lot of weight so I think it's worked out alright.

I think you should weigh yourself as often as you want. If it's motivation to do better, then go for it.

I'll argue that it's fine to weight yourself daily. I do. It lets me know I'm headed in the right direction.

But I'm kind of hard on myself. If I'm up a pound or half a pound (I know, water weight, what's in your system blah blah blah), then it's a super low calorie day.

When I was diagnosed with PCOS it was such a relief to have a name to put on what was "wrong" with me. The acne, hair, inability to lose weight, crazy periods....I was so relieved, and then it was the process of reclaiming being female.

My doctor told me to consider myself pre-diabetic. Which means cutting a lot of carbs and sugar. While I've lost 60 pounds total, and 50 since being diagnosed, I haven't been able to cut out the carbs. I eat healthier carbs -whole grains, but I haven't cut them out as much as he wanted me too.

And carbs are my weak point. I love potatos and bread and pasta. I think though, that I'm going to try to cut back on them and see if it improves my weight loss.

At my best weight loss, I have experienced loss of breasts and ass. It was disheartening but I dealt with it cuz I had a six pack and was nicely toned. I used to joke about it alot - that when I sit, I felt bone but truth was guys still found that I had an ass.

This time around, I would really hate moving from a C cup to a B, wouldn't mind losing a bit of my bum as I have a sink in my lower back so would still have the illusion of an ass lolz.

But marinehead put it nicely - better proportion and a healthier lifestyle.

That's something else I lost - my butt. I'm buttless.

Weight Loss When your partner is so not into eating healthy Feb 04 2009

I met my boyfriend after I won a life long battle with and against my weight, so he's never understood why I'm such a freak about what I eat. But he thinks I'm a good cook so he's content to let me plan our meals.  The holidays were a free for all, but after the first of the year I said that I needed to get back to watching what I ate. He's two years out of the army so he's still in really good shape - and doesn't need to lose any weight at all.  About three weeks into me consciously watching what I'm eating and cooking healthy I notice that he looks like he's lost some weight. Ten pounds. The boy dropped ten pounds in three weeks without trying.

I guess what I'm getting at is that if you have more control over the meals, and planning the meals then it will be better not only for you, but also for him. If he cooks what you eat, then he'll naturally start to lose some weight. We usually allot for one night a week eating out with our friends. That's his chance to eat whatever won't eat him first - but I know the rest of the week he's eating well.
