Fitness sore after workout Jan 20 2009

Oooh this is coming in the mail this week. Woohoo, sounds like a good workout. I've been sore too from working out. I did take one day off after two of working out, but I was literally so sore I couldn't even move. I took a bath and then today I jumped back into it. It was hard, but I made it through.

Great job on the exercising. I thought I was doing good with a work out video every day, but now it feels like I'm barely trying compared to your schedule. Impressive. :)

Weight Loss I gained it all back....really? Jan 19 2009

You are at a healthy weight already. If you want to tone up I'd suggest strength training, which will turn whatever fat you have into muscle and increase your metabolism. You're already at the low weight for your height, so you have nothing to truly worry about.

You're not eating enough calories either. I can't give any advice about that because I have trouble eating a ton of calories too, but from what I hear if your body doesn't think you're eating enough it will hang onto the food you do eat.

Again, you're at an almost unhealthy weight already! I'd suggest you try maintaining it and building up your muscles.

I'm sure you look gorgeous at that weight.

Weight Loss How many pounds did you lose before people noticed? Jan 19 2009

You guys are amazing. Really great inspiration for me to lose weight.

I know how you feel Ceils. I'm always being told by my soon to be mother in law how I can eat less and walk more, but once I lost 20 pounds she hasn't noticed. It's nice for people to recognize our achievements, it's positive reinforcement. Until they start using their brains and pointing out how great you look you can always remind yourself by trying on your old "fat" clothes. Cool

It always makes me realize how far I've come, and I try on the pair that don't fit me yet and see how close I am getting.

Weight Loss Carbs/Fat/Protein amounts? Jan 19 2009

Thanks for the tips.

Wow that seems like a lot of protein, I had no clue that we should eat that much. I'm not sure, I don't think I could do low carb though because I'm vegan and I really eat a lot of fruits and vegetables.

I guess the numbers aren't as important as having a balance of 40/30/30 so I'll try aiming for that.

I thought that I had to eat 500 calories less than 1750. Wow I guess I was way off!

That's a neat trick for people who have trouble spelling. Unfortunately since "loose" is a word people won't pick it up on spell check.

It doesn't irritate me, but it does at the same time. I always feel guilty that it irritates me though. haha

I think it's smart to be concerned about what you put into your body. I'm sure you can find some organic produce in your market, but if not you can buy a special kind of wash to use on your fruit and veg.

I have a huge phobia of seafood, I can't even walk near it in the store.

Dairy and meat is gross!

Don't let yourself go crazy in either direction, being too lax or too strict. Try to enjoy your food.

Thanks. I mostly eat things without labels, fruits and veggies. I never thought about it being in avacados'. I eat a lot of those. Yummy!

I was worried I had ingested something non-vegan, since I had tater-tot's yesterday.

1. Favorite non-dairy milk? I love all Almond Breeze, especially unsweetened since it's so much healthier.

2. What are the top 3 dishes/recipes you are planning to cook?

I'm not sure, I noticed that someone said something about a banana/sweet potato casserole. That sounds great, but I can't find a vegan recipe.

I am waiting on the cookbook Eat, Drink & Be Vegan and will pick a few recipes from there to try.

3. Topping of choice for popcorn? Salt

4. Most disastrous recipe/meal failure? Lasagna, umm brownies.. everything I make is a disaster!

Next time someone says to mix the flour and water first when making brownies, I won't take them literally! The rest of the dry ingredients wouldn't mix in and then when I cooked it there were chunks of dough throughout the pan.

5. Favorite pickled item? I like pickles.

6. How do you organize your recipes? I have a few cookbooks, and I usually just remember the ones I like.

7. Compost, trash, or garbage disposal? We throw our extra food outside for the bunnies and skunks and other wild animals.

8. If you were stranded on an island and could only bring 3 foods...what would they be (don't worry about how you'll cook them)? hmmm.. Cherries, PB & ricemellow sandwhiches & bbq tofu

9. Fondest food memory from your childhood? Free lunch at school

10. Favorite vegan ice cream? SO DELICIOUS anything.

11. Most loved kitchen appliance? My blender, which is a pseudo mixer.

12. Spice/herb you would die without? I don't know, I love so many.

13. Cookbook you have owned for the longest time? Vegan Express

14. Favorite flavor of jam/jelly? Strawberry & Grape

15. Favorite vegan recipe to serve to an omni friend?Something from Gaia.

16. Seitan, tofu, or tempeh? Tofu and Tempeh. Can't stand seitan.

17. Favorite meal to cook (or time of day to cook)? I like to make Mexican style food the most. (Dinner)

18. What is sitting on top of your refrigerator? a cat.

19. Name 3 items in your freezer without looking. boca patties, ice cubes & some nasty tofutti cuties.

20. What's on your grocery list? tomatoes, baby spinach, kidney beans, black beans, apples, strawberries or cherries, tofurkey beer brats

21. Favorite grocery store? Meijer

22. Name a recipe you'd love to veganize, but haven't yet. I'd love to SUCCESSFULLY veganize lasagna

23. Food blog you read the most (besides Isa's because I know you check it everyday). Or maybe the top 3? I don't read any.

24. Favorite vegan candy/chocolate? hmmm I haven't tried any I like :(

25. Most extravagant food item purchased lately? Cherries that were 10 dollars for a pound.

Chill. If you watch, many posts take hours and hours to get a reply.

I have lived with clinical depression and I do understand what you're talking about. Having gone through five years of untreated major depressive disorder leaves me very well acquainted with the lack of energy and the social anxiety. The problem is that motivation has to come from inside. There's no way we can externally provide you with internal motivation.

Exercise and endorphins are good for depression. I always feel more up on my way back from exercising than I did when I went out. I often have to almost shove myself out the door to do it, muttering, "I don't waaaannna!" The only response to that is "I know, but I'm gonna do it anyway."

If you're anxious about going out, find a routine to go at home.

If your depression is sapping your energy, remember that exercise will help combat some of it.

If your depression is as you describe it, get treatment.

You might have to do that last one first.

From experience, hiding at home only exacerbates the problem.

This is a new profile of mine, but I've been on the site for years and I know it doesn't take hours to respond. Thanks for your suggestions.

I didn't make myself clear, but I was more wondering how other people motivated themselves to exercise, or where they would get the motivation from if they had depression.

I've had my ups' where exercise has made me feel better.

I'm in a slump right now. Social anxiety is not just as simple as going outside and facing the world. Otherwise I would have done that by now.

I can't get treatment around here, I've already been to the clinic and after a few months my therapist said I had reached the maximum number of visits.

I hope that the rest of CC isn't as rude as you.
