Weight Loss Running to help lose fat on lower body? May 21 2009

I am also a pear shape and carry my weight in my hips/butt/thighs. I began running last summer (and continue to run) and my weight slowly shed off every body part including my butt and thighs. My thighs were a lot firmer and better looking. I guess depending on genetics the same may or may not work for you. Like the other posts said, even if it doesn't help (but i'm sure it will) your body will benefit in other ways. I would definitely give it a shot. I ran for about 2 weeks until I noticed a difference. Don't give up.

CHEMISTRY was my worst nightmare...I know how you feel. Hang in there. If I got through it, YOU can get through it!! I got a D the first time around and needed atleast a C for the nursing program. I re-took it over my summer break (online...and it was SOO much easier). This was inorganic I had to retake. I also struggled with organic chemistry, but I learned my lesson and practically lived in the help room that semester. I also studied with a buddy which helped. I ended up getting a C+. Oh well.

What are your study habbits? Mabie study with a friend or get a tutor and go in for extra help. Do the practice questions from your text to reinforce what you are learning to make sure you understand what you're learning. Don't try to memorize the material.

I am currently struggling with Pathophysiology II...it blows.

GOOD LUCK! YOU CAN DO IT!

jess: to an extent, yes. seeing the PICU (pediatric icu) was quite difficult the first time around. it just felt cold and it was very dark...just not a good feeling. There was a stillborn in my OB rotation but I chose not to see the baby for obvious reasons. Geriatrics can be difficult for me occasionally because I often think of my grandparents, parents, pretty much anyone I love and care about. I just always think what if this were my loved one going through this, and that triggers my emotions. As time goes on you get used to it though.

I am a nursing student and have 1 yr left...and soooooo much to learn. I'm going for my bachelors in nursing to become an RN. Nursing school is definitely a lot of work, but like me, if you enjoy school and are driven you can do it!! You sound very driven and you seem to go for what you want...I say go for it! It has it's ups and downs, just as anything else, but it is SO rewarding. I feel so wonderful that I've come this far and before long I'll be out their on my own helping people...I won't just be the "student nurse". What a great feeling...it definitely motivates me. You see so many crazzzy things...operations, illnesses, people flinging poo, etc etc etc. You will have so many memories :) Of course the best outcome=caring for others and educating them to care for themselves.

A few things...

Exams- hard. NCLEX based questions...can often be very tricky.

Clinicals- most are AMAZING, some dreadful...i think labor and delivery was my best experience yet...i LOVE babies and watching a mother give birth is unreal..wonderful...emotional. The whole family bonding just amazes me. Also, some RN's-your preceptors-tend to like to eat their young. Never take this personally! Smile, say thank you for your help, and move on.

Relationships- meeting so many people of different cultures is great (patients and students). You really learn a lot about yourself and others.

Workload- HUGE...continuous...never ending

Care plans- SUCK!!!!

Sleep- umm almost none.

Please don't think I'm putting down nursing school. Of course it's hard, but you can't let that stop you. Nursing is a beautiful thing! And..not anyone can be a nurse. We need all the nurses we an get! I guess one benefit (like everyone says) is "you will always have a job". AND if you're unhappy with your position, you can always float or transfer to another unit. You never have to settle...you're always needed somewhere! Also, the learning never ends. You are thrown with something new everyday. You're always given the opportunity to learn and improve. How can you possibly ever get bored? Nursing is an exciting profession!!!

Yay nursing! Laughing

The Haunting in Connecticut is based off Discovery channel's "The Haunting". If you havn't seen the episode then you can youtube it. It is indeed very creepy. I found the true story to be quite scary, but when you watch the real story and then watch the trailor for the movie...you will see the movie is definitely fabricated. Thats hollywood! If you enjoy scary movies though it's probably one to go see. I love scary movies, but for some reason I feel this one is going to give me nightmares...and I'll never want to sleep on my house alone again. HAHA.

I have had quite a few experiences in my home, mainly in my bedroom. My mother has also experienced a few things. I don't really like talking about it though.

I get my fix from Kellog's fiber plus bars (dark chocolate with almonds) or a banana shake. I often have the shake for breakfast...I actually found the recipe on CC: 1/2 a frozen banana, ice cubes, about 1/2 cup of fat free milk, dash of cinnimon, 1 splenda or stevia packet, and a small splash of vanilla extract. Let me say...I am addicted to the shake! I'm thinking of changing it up and adding a tablespoon of ovaltine?

I usually melt a TB of butter or whatever your preference is, add some minced garlic and a touch of garlic powder to the butter and then spread it over the salmon filets. I then squeeze fresh lemon over it and add fresh cracked pepper. I broil it about 8-10 mins (or in the summer time I grill it). I always squeeze more lemon on my piece before I eat it! One of my favorite meals! I usually steam some asparagus or have a small potato on the side.

I have a few Zumba DVD's....and OMG I love them! Just FYI for those of you out there looking for something new and actually fun! The DVD's are great if you can't afford the classes, or if they're not offered. Highly recommended. I'm usually pretty sore the following day and always break a sweat. You work out hard core without even noticing.

Gurlie and gi-jane said it all.  If people aren't going to love and appreciate who you are as a human being, then they are NOT worth your time.  All that matters is what YOU think about yourself.  Congradulations on the weight loss.  You should be very proud!  :)  And props to you for trying to lose more....just as long as your doing it for yourself and not the jerks around you!

In second grade I had to go to an after school program.  One of the counselors told my friends and I the Bloody Mary story and then turned off the bathroom lights and held the door shut.  I wouldn't go to dance class, the bathroom, or sleep for weeks.  My poor Mom could not convince me that it didn't exist.  She tried to make me say it in the mirror to prove it wasn't true, but we never made it that far! I guess the point is I thought Bloody Mary was gonna kill me.

I used to think that when you had the "stomach bug", you vomitted because there was a fly buzzing inside your belly.

I also thought serial killers were "cereal killers" and boiled peoples heads and then ate the heads with their cereal.

LOL...Now that you all think I'm wacked...
