| Motivation | Quit smoking 3 days ago... now I want to eat! Ack!! | Mar 06 2009 15:21 (UTC) |

Wow, congrats on quitting!!! I promise, promise, promise it DOES get easier! You can't imagine a time when you aren't fantasing about having a smoke - but it will come. One day, you'll realize you haven't thought about it in a couple hours, then a couple days, then a couple weeks etc. That was a hard part for me when I quit (4 years ago) - trying to see a future when I didn't obsess about smoking. And it sneaks up on you, it really does. So repeat to yourself "it does get better, it does get better, it does get better!". I tore paper - instead of shredding. I brought bags of shredding home from work instead of putting in the machine and sat there "shredding" it. Weird, but it worked for me! Good luck and congrats again! |

I am following Hal Higdon's Novice 5K Training Program. I haven't run for about 3 (maybe 4) years so am definately a novice. I am 5'11 and 240 lbs. I have an 8 month old son and gained a lot of weight while pregnant with him and during a previous preg/miscarriage. I felt really great during the run though, it didn't feel like I was overdoing it at all. In fact, it was the best fun ever for me which makes this even more disappointing. I was fitted for proper shoes too, so that isn't the prob. But I am going to the dr. today as my leg got worse and worse overnight and now I can't walk at all on it - which makes my 8 month old son more mobile than mom - not a good thing!! |

Thanks, I ended up doing 40 minutes. I was so bored (I did it on the treadmill) that I kept doing things like uping the grade for minutes to 8, then down to 1% grade, but speed up to 6 etc. It helped the time go by! My next walk I will definately do outside. Rmath, are you doing the Hal Higdon Novice Program? |

I am breastfeeding too - didn't help me lose weight! Or maybe it did and I would have been gaining if it wasn't for bf - wouldn't surprise me! I have been wearing maternity pants for WAY to long! That's great you have a trainer, I would love to get one, just to keep me motivated to work out. I find myself putting off exercise too often :(. |

Great thread! Liam is 8 months old tomorrow and I haven't lost much weight since he was born. I only recently started being serious about it, and I am finally starting to see the numbers start to inch downwards. I gained a lot of weight pre pregnancy due to miscarriage/emotional eating, and WAY to much while I was pregant. I hope to lose much of it before his brother or sister comes along (which I am hoping to start trying for in about 8 months). One of my biggest probs is Liam is a TERRIBLE sleeper! When I am tired, I mindlessly munch, when I get up with him in the middle of the night, I grab a cookie - you get the picture!! But, he got mobile this last week so I am spending lots of time chasing him - maybe that will help, lol! |

Welcome! You are already on the right track - you've lost 27 lbs, that's great! Congratulations on your new resolve! Remember, each and every pound lost and every minute you exercise is something to celebrate - don't concentrate on the end goal, make smaller ones along the way. You already have 27 reasons to celebrate - here's to many more. Good luck, you can definately do it!!! |

Hi everybody! I think this thread is a great idea. I am 34 and currently 248 lbs. I have an 8 month old son, but am planning to try for a brother or sister for him in about 8 months. I gained a lot of weight before I was pregnant with him, due to pregnancy, miscarriage, emotional eating, then a LOT of weight when I was pregnant with him. I need to lose about 60 lbs before conceiving to ensure a healthy pregnancy. I am 12 lbs down now - yay! Good luck everybody! |

Thanks everybody for the advice. I think I will have a "cheat" day - that's a good idea. I am not too restrictive now, and I try to eat a good balance, but its not easy as you all know! The cheat day is a good idea - when I feel like eating something that would take me over my limit, I can just tell myself to wait for my cheat day. By the time it gets here, that craving might even be gone! I haven't binged since the last one and am feeling very confident. Thanks again! |

I am sorry for your loss - I know how hard that is. I also miscarried my first, and I also had gained way to much with that pregnancy. I could not wait to try to conceive and ended up getting pregnant right after my first period following the m/c - about a month later. I am happy to say that I have a healthy almost 8 month old son now |

I am living your pain. My son is almost 8 months old and still wakes up 5 - 10 times every FREAKING night! Ouch! I have tried everything it seems and haven't found a solution. I crave sleep like I used to (still actually) crave chocolate. He can't fall asleep without me and I am at my wits end. Good luck in your quest for sleep from a fellow sufferer!! |
