Could be shin splints. That's a lot of running for sure. A bit of rest probably won't hurt that much, especially in preparation for your up coming 20 milers. It may even help your time! Try rubbing some caspazin (spelling) cream into the shin areas, it may help. |

Sounds like you are trying too hard...over analyzing and trying to micromanage it too much. That is only going to set you up for dissappointment. Remember, life is that we might have joy...enjoy losing weight along the way. If you are constantly saying you can't be happy until your reach "X" happiness will always be just out of reach. |

Have you tried any of the salad spritzers? I started using them at the first of the year and really like them. My favorite is the Balsamic vinegar! The Ranch was ok... but they are only about 1 calorie per spray. I've also found if I add tomatoes, celary, and other watery vegies, I don't really need the salad dressing. It only covers up the fresh natural flavors. |

Another suggestion I'd give, if no one wants to share a meal with you, is asking for a to go box with your order so you can split it and save part for lunch the next day. I would especially do this if you already know the portion size at a particular restaurant is big. And think...then you get to enjoy your eating out experience twice.... |

| Weight Loss | i want to lose weight faster. | Mar 19 2009 14:14 (UTC) |

Ok here's the deal, i'm going to say it like I've seen it in the past three months. The people on this board are narrow minded and don't like to be told they are wrong, but then who does. They do have some good ideas and insights on weight loss though. Can you lose your weight quickly...sure. I've lost approaching 35 lbs (as of this mornig 34.2 lbs to be exact) since christmas. Let's see, that's just shy of 3 months. It took a huge life change, and i do fear regaining it, so I know that I have to keep up with the program. I haven't taken any magic pills, powders, or concotions either. I have watched what I eat, and counted every calorie. And I workout, no not hours on end, but about 45 to 60 minutes a day. The weight loss has slowed dramatically in the last month or so, but it's still coming off. The other thing I would keep in mind, is that men usually lose the extra wieght faster than women, so for some chick giving you advice on what has happened in her life, probably isn't going to mean much to you. I would keep in mind that not eating enough calories will send you body in starvation mode. I'm finding that zig zagging is a great way to deal with this keep you intake in balance over a weeks period of time. |

Don't buy them...while they are for a good cause and do taste good, they are way over priced. If you buy them, you are sure to eat them...and I do know how hard it is to stop with just one. |

| Weight Loss | The day before weigh-in, what do you do? | Mar 06 2009 14:38 (UTC) |

Seems how I "weigh in" every day, sometimes two or three times a day, it would be impossible to do something special before each one. I usually log my morning weight, first thing i do after using the bathroom in the morning. In my opinion, wiegh in should be close to the same time of the day whenever you do it, so you can get an accurate feel for what it is and avoid the normal ups and downs during the day. |

Well...If you are gaining weight then I'd say it's coming from some where...I'd guess that perhaps if you are lifting so much it could be muscle mass... |

| Weight Loss | best way to lose 30lbs in 2 months | Feb 18 2009 14:32 (UTC) |

While it's hard to do it can be done...I've lost almost 30 lbs since christmas--only another 2 or 3 lbs to go and that should be accomplished in the next week or so to make it 30 lbs in 2 months like you arethinking. I've done it by watching what i eat really close...I'm averaging about 1900 calories per day. The other thing I've done is increase my activety level. Walking more...actually looking for opportunities to walk as much as possible. I also lift weights for 15 to 20 mnutes a day 3 to 4 times a week, and run 3+ miles a day 4 to 5 times a week. I'm a little worried about the weight coming back on quickly if I stop this...so I'm planning to keep it up as a lifestyle change. As i get back to the weight I want to be, I plan to slowly add more calories but keep up the excercise because I enjoy it so much. This las weekend was the first time that hunger really had gotten to me, so I did eat more calores...close to 2500 a day which resulted in a quick spike in my weight...but it came right back off when i returned to my work out regiment. |

| Weight Loss | Are we really overwieght? | Feb 14 2009 06:04 (UTC) |

I laugh at the BMI chart...I calculated mine the other day...and inorder for me to be classified as healthy I have to lose 2 more pounds...that's rediculose (and so is my spelling). There has to be a cut off point somewhere...and it's a lot more convient for all the insurance companies, diet companies, and whoever else that may wan to judge my wieght to look up a number...25 in this case...and say oh he/she is unhealthy because they aren't in our magic number range. |

| Weight Loss | Are you addicted to fast food ? | Feb 09 2009 23:06 (UTC) |

I had my first McDonald's cheeseburger today since Christmas. Wow, it tasted sooo goood...I actually had two :). But I'm still within my calorie count for the day. I used to eat them all the time. The motivation isn't gone though...I have lost 25 lbs since Christmas mostly by eating Healthier and working out...it just feels good to be able to say that I'm finally losing the fast food weight i've been putting on for the last 10 years. No way do I want to go back to the way I was. But like other treats, it's okay to have once in awhile. |

| Weight Loss | Having a problem getting enough calories | Feb 09 2009 20:41 (UTC) |

You know your body best! If you don't feel hungry, don't eat. You're body won't let you starve it to death if you listen to it. Everyone will probably get all over me for saying it, but it's the honest to goodness trueth. You will feel hungry when you aren't getting enough! If you are just eating because some chart on some wall is telling you to, then you're doing it for the wrong reason and it's not healthy. Conversly, if you always feel hungry...and you know you have a problem with binging then you should be asking yourself am I really hungry or is there some other trigger or symptom that I'm confusing with hunger. However, in your case, I'd say watch the scale it won't lie, and watch how you feel and you'll know what your body needs. I was getting too few calories and stopped losing the weight i wanted to, so I upped my calorie intake, and it helped a ton. I learned that I need to eat more for me...you may not be the same, so your task is to learn what works for you!

| Weight Loss | Is losing 5 pounds a week bad for you?????? | Feb 08 2009 16:35 (UTC) |
3 |
I'm with you on this...I've lost 24 lbs since christmas...an average of about 4 lbs per week more less. However, I've slowed down the weight loss eating more, and working out more. My weight loss has slowed to between 1 and 2 lbs a week in the last couple of weeks, but I feel like it's going to stay off longer this way too. It's not so much a diet as a life change. I worried when I was eating so much less that when I hit my goal, it would all come back because I would go back to my old habits. However, I can see myself eating a healthy amount and continueing to excercise as I am now for a long time into the future. I will say it has felt great to lose the lbs that i've been trying to for years in a couple months, and actually see myself getting into the "healthy" range on most simple BMI charts in thenext couple of months. |

| Fitness | would 1 mile a day be okay? | Feb 08 2009 16:29 (UTC) |
3 |
It's a good start for sure! I would suggest looking for an amount of time rather than a distance. You'll find that as you continue the mile, you'll be doing it faster and faster. So logically, you should be able to do more than a mile in time in the same amount of time. Don't limit the distance... |

| Weight Loss | Can i really eat ANYTHING? | Feb 08 2009 16:25 (UTC) |
|
The only thing i would add is shooting for a calorie range. I'm no scientist, but the way I work with my body is to looking at my 7 day average to base my calorie count. A day is too short of a time for me. If i'm going to weigh in weekly then what sense does basing my calorie intake on a daily basis. It's very hard to hit the perfect number of calories each day...without eating the exact same food every day...but over a weeks time, I can over indulge one day and make up for it the next. Don't leave out excersice though. In doing this, I automatically biuild in the zigzag...and my body never goes into starvation mode. Balance diet, excersice and persistance is my three keys to weight loss. |

For me, I'd rather the natural stuff. First, it tastes better, and second, while all the science says there's no harm in the chemicals and artificial stuff, I'm still very sceptical of them! |

| Weight Loss | why do you REALLY want to lose weight [be honest] | Jan 22 2009 20:02 (UTC) |

Well, with a history of diabities and MS in my family, it's probably best to stay healthy rather than try to do so after dealing with these diseases. Having the added bonus of the winner of our families biggest loser contest gets 400 dollars, isnt a bad incentive either. |
