| Oh my gosh, hi girls. Sorry about my previous post, I was doing the computer version of "drinking and dialing". I was livid with my partner on Sunday evening, but he has gone to elaborate lengths to make it up to me (taking a day off work, telling everyone far and wide he was a jerk to me). Hate to say it but that astrological stuff might hold some water in this case: he's a Gemini! We were invited to dinner last night but I was too angry with him to go out. He was telling everyone that I didn't attend because I was PMSing and in a lousy mood (but he said it in Italian). Part of his penance has been to correct that misinformation to our host, as well as to our friend who I was working with this morning. Men think they can use our hormonal cycles to their advantage? They've got another think coming. Score 1 for the women, Nancy1967 |

| Hi Girls, I am currently MORE than annoyed at my partner and on a WORK STRIKE not making the bed, the kitchen or breakfast. The only happy ending that I see in mind is me settled back into my cozy house in Orange country with my highly intelligent but socially peculiar ex husband. But while here I am without proper appetite and the main meals of today have been toast "fette biscoate, not really toast per se" and wine. Yogurt. Top THAT you desicated shriveled up French Women! freaking' exhausted, Nancy67 summer of love ! | |||
| Weight Loss | Is it possible to go out to dinner and NOT consume 800-900 calories?? | May 09 2008 06:13 (UTC) |
|
| Hi! It's possible, but why would you want to do that :D
I see you're in Torino, I'm in a province of Arezzo! When we go out to eat I figure it to be at least 2000 calories. 3000 calories in one sitting at weddings. And that's a conservative estimate. Salads in Italy are not-so-hot, it's not like going to The Cheesecake Factory or even Denny's and getting their monster salads. But the soups in Italy are really good. The idea occurred to me to get wine and an antipasto and a dessert, to keep the cals down. But I'm not that strong. Nancy |

| Welcome to Monica and Kady! ...I'm with Chris on the "going salad crazy" idea. I often forget that is a yummy low-cal option because we usually finish meals with a little salad. Nothing eye-popping. About husband/wife relationships becoming routine, I remember reading National Geographic's LOVE issue that came out one St. Valentine's Day. In the article the journalist explained how human romantic relationships are programmed to last 4 years tops, in the scheme of human reproduction and child raising. Humans, in a biological sense, are not one of the species that "mate for life". Ducks are one of the species to have that good fortune. |

| Man oh man. Nancy BEB, that is heavy you-know-what. Does your son have any idea that his actions have repercussions? I'm completely unknowledgable in the child rearing dept., so take this with a gram of sodium: would you be able to "scare" him into behaving himself? (or is it strictly a medical problem?) After reading your post, I'm shook up that your living situation could be made tenuous from his actions. Has he ever been confronted with a homeless situation? (That is a big paranoia/actual fear of mine since college days.) How'd he like living out of a car. A lot of Americans are living that nightmare right now. It's serious stuff and I'd be scared witless in your shoes. Have you sought the advice of a pastor/priest, their waiting list should be shorter than the couseling service, no? Nancy67 | |||

| Kayo - I read your message and thought immediately about adding your own panels to the sides or the back, but Ann's idea is even better. I'm the fightin' kind and would be up for a battle in court over this; it's cruelty. Arguably, it's SIZEIST! I hate tight clothes and cannot wear them. Ever. A doctor's note would be a cinch: all you'd have to say is you were having problems breathing. I can't breathe if clothes are the least bit tight. Plus, I become cranky as all get-out. I'm having problems breathing just imagining your situation! One of my friends works at the Avis counter at our local airport (not in Italy, in CA) and the company makes them STAND the entire time. It's inhumane. Ideally they should also pay for varicose vein corrective surgery that also comes with the territory. In need of O2, Nancy67 |

| Woah, Nance(BEB)! I didn't even think of that! (holding the dog while treadmilling then setting him down/walking with leash onto treadmill) Very good ideas, I will try that. We walk an hour in the countryside in the AM and, if it's not raining, another hour or so at a slower clip in-town in the PM.
I'd like to get him on the 'mill in time for summer, when it's too hot for a (French) Bulldog to walk outside - they overheat so easily. Is it FRIDAY yet? Nancy67 |

| Hi and welcome jluffner! Welcome to the club :)
Chris - I hear you on partner's bread eating. I don't eat much bread because it's not very good here where I live, but my partner is used to eating it at every meal, and he puts away a loaf a day (the non-sliced kind). If he cut that out, he'd get into ALL of his trousers, no problem. Incredibly, he's taken up walking into town. I tried to get the dog to walk on the treadmill yesterday but as soon as he gets on, he STOPS WALKING and then flies off the back, landing on his bag of food, poor guy. Anyone know the trick to getting a dog to treadmill? I understand they love it once they get the hang of it. |

| Hi Gang, welcome fab_oma! And thank you Kayo for the encouragement; you're right, it's what's on the inside that counts, and hopefully my insides have benefited from my efforts. I'm thinking about getting one of those bathroom scales that measure fat etc - but are they really accurate? A trainer is an excellent idea - but they are the pits here where I live. No matter, I shall persevere!
Irishangel32, my body type is such that I will almost always have a 40 ouncer rather than a 6-pak. This last weekend was a gluten free-for-all, rather than gluten-free, so no weigh-ins for me. Ah well, I'm starting again fresh today. Have a good weekend, girls! Nancy67 |

| HI guys, this is just a short rant. I've been doing sit ups and push ups every weekday since February - and I see NO DIFFERENCE and I feel no difference in strength, except they've become marginally easier to do. It gets me so mad! And I've been biking to my part-time job almost every weekday morning (since Feb.) and now my thighs have a real blubbery look to them - WHY?!! HOW?!!
To make my insomnia more amusing, I am reading "A Prayer For Owen Meany". Last night I had to fight laughing in bed so as not to wake papa bear. Have a good weekend, girls! Nancy67 |

| Regarding the above, ANN - you are singing to the choir over here. Everything you said about what goes on between you and your husband is what goes on between me and mine. Daily. I am such great company. I have been trying to shut up about it but it's tough.
Annj - ah no, it was the best trip to London I've had since the eighties! I think because we weren't traveling all across town and we stayed clear of the West End until Sat. night when we went to a dance (fun!). Was the delicious food we ate worth the wobbly belly? Yeah.... Any chance I get to eat non-Italian food, I take it! Ciao, care belle! ('bye lovely dears!) Nancy67 |

| Hi Anna! Not to sound fad-ish but try cutting out gluten (wheat-based foods) for a week... it did wonders for me.
After just one weekend in a different country with different food (NON-Italian, that is) my middle is swollen and jiggly. I can feel it shake when I make sudden movements, and it makes me angry. If anyone would like to see where my part time job is, have a look at www.residencelaprincipessa.it, I did the English translations. It needs a lot of work from a marketing perspective but it's pretty good for here. your jiggly fellow calorie-counter, Nancy67 |

| Hi gang,
Kim - I am eager to see what your boss says about plateaus, sounds like it will be very helpful to know. Welcome back Ann (Napoli) and welcome to the new Ann! Ro - congrats on your new body, think I can get good trade-in value for mine? We got back from a quick trip to London yesterday. On our arrival to England, as we were disembarking from the plane at Stanstead it started HAILING. Only suffered one travel glitch that we overcame by throwing pounds sterling around. Maybe money is the key to happiness. No, that can't be because I'm fairly happy... Happy Monday, folks! Nancy67 ps to Nancy - I'd just get some oldies compilations and dance around the house to that. |

| Our dog eats tissues. He can go through an entire purse-pack if we're not at home. The problem is when he passes them - we often have to assist in pulling them out of his bottom. He likes raw chestnuts, too, which fall to the ground in winter. | |||

| Howdy everyone, welcome new gals, and to the short ones - I feel your pain (at 5'2", every fraction of a pound SHOWS).
PAT: right on. Show those young 'uns your stuff. "Mature" tennis players wipe the courts with younger ones. I was always afraid to even rally with my ex-MIL (who is a lovely, lovely person but competitive as hell and a kick-ass tennis player). Alyson - gym sounds wonderful. Convenience is everything. Ann - an active job sounds great, envious over here! Yesterday evening we had pizza at our friends' house in the rolling hillsides of Montepulciano area, close to us - no neighbors, just vineyards & wheat fields. Everyone but me had a shot at rolling out the store-bought pizza dough. I'm sure I ate more than anyone else at the table, guys included. I'm going back on my gluten free thing because my cals went back up to OVER 3000 p/day, which is gruesome to tally up, believe me. Later, 'taters! Nancy |

| Hi Everyone! Can you help me figure out the difference between the old calorie-count and the new calorie-count? I am on the old one. I have photos on my gallery/about me page. Can you guys see them? I can. Nancy(56) cannot. What gives?
Beth, excellent news, phew. Ann, no you're not being awkward - you're protecting the friendly skies :) Kim, I WISH I knew something for dark spots. No one here does?? What about increasing muscle mass to hike up your metabolism? I think your dr. is screwy to just say "eat less". Nancy |

Pat, that kills me, "whistling too much"! Should I just quit? Maybe I need to take up smoking as a replacement? (NOT SERIOUS about that!) I think whistling is an outward expression of inner well-being. Kim - I can't remember if I already asked you if Retin-A would do anything for vertical lines? I am STILL waiting for my Elizabeth Arden stuff to come in (with the lower dose of Avage built in). Unbelievable how LONG things take here...! Is it Friday yet? Nancy67 |

| Girlie-whirlies, hiya... just 2 random comments to make:
The Helena Rubenstein collagen-filler-garbagio product that Demi Moore (she's just "half" a more) pitches does NOT work. I was using it for nearly 3 weeks and I still look like me. Stockard Channing (remember her as "Rizzo" in "Grease"?) looks amazing and NOT WORKED ON in the film "The Business of Strangers", co-starring the eternally puffy-faced Julia Styles. Aside from being a hell of an actress, SC's fitness level is something to aspire to. From the "shallow" end of the pool, Nancy67 |

| Howdy gang, I am suffering raging hormones just now so please excuse me! Meena, honey, I'm drinking too much also. My MIL DRIVES ME TO DRINK. If I didn't sedate myself with red wine, I am sure I'd have been on a plane back to California LONG ago! I worked myself into such a froth last night that I just had to take an antihistamine and call it a night. I KNOW it's hormonal but that doesn't lessen my impulses.
"menopot" - LOVE IT, Kim!!! x17star17x is really a superstar, completely inspirational. If everyone was as determined as she is, the whole fad diet industry would go down the tubes and good riddance. Ciao guys! from a slightly less rabid, Nancy67. |

| 2 Nancys, back to back... Nance - great to see your son's home. 70 grams of choc is 70 grams of (milk?) choc - I'd look under Lindt 70% on the CC calorie database. It's going to be ugly but it's better to know. I've been chipping off pieces of my easter eggs (big as American footballs) piece by piece in anger and frustration and NOT counting/weighing.
I'm alive and kicking but haven't typed on our thread because I've been in a rotten mood from the whole "honey, your mother is trying to kill me with her lousy cooking" syndrome. And it AIN'T over, yet! I'd type more now but the tourniquet action of my jeans waistband is making my arms go numb. Nancy67 |

| Maintaining | Maintainers ~ How do you measure success? | Mar 22 2008 09:43 (UTC) |

| You've done so GREAT, you could measure success every time you dress in something cute and look amazing, every morning. You could measure success every time you climb stairs and aren't winded. You could measure success every time you eat a balanced healthy moderate meal and feel good afterwards :) Do you feel like you have a brand new life, or was it so gradual (the loss) that you didn't really notice a change? | MariYumm, I am your same height, but older by 5/6 years. I lose weight if I can keep my calories to 2300 p/day. I walk my dog for an hour 5x p/week. So, I agree with the above, you could increase cals. and see what happens. | |||

| HI guys, welcome Penny! 2 miles walking and eating low-cal (1500 is really low), you'll whittle off the weight no doubt. Ann, those recipes look awesome, I will save them to a document, thanks! Chris, 3 donuts might not be that bad... French crullers are nearly harmless! Gang, I finally have some good news to report. I'm on day 6 of gluten-free week (not hardcore - haven't checked if my lip balm has gluten-based stabilizers, and I eat oatmeal processed in a plant that works with other grains, the horror!) and I have lost a half kilo (a pound!). Losing wasn't even in the plan, but came as a result of not scarfing down cookies, cakes etc. I may stick to this in a modified form (I need my All-Bran in the morning), which would be a HUGE dietary change for me. All those rice-based bready-type products are bad on the glycemic index, however, and so I will try to stay clear of those. But the fact is, I don't think I have a sensitivity to gluten. I just like it, eat too much of it, and I hold on to the weight. WHat are you all doing for EASTER? (originally typed "EATER", Freudian slip!) Nancy67 |

| HI Pam and Zena and new ladies, jump on in, the water is fine! I am late in chiming in on this one but it's been on my mind, as so many of your messages are, even if I don't add something to the thread (as is often the case with worrisome issues, I just feel bad and get nervous about it all...) Chris - try doing a google search for chewy oatmeal cookies. I bet you come up with something on the food network site, or on about-dot-com (which is a super source for authentic Japanese cooking, by the way). And then send me a parcel of the finished product and I'll tell ya if they're chewy or not! ...I'll just wait here for that to come through the mail, I should be off my gluten-free kick by then... :) Nancy67 |

| I'm with you, Ann. That's why I take all the stats from CC or whatever site with a gram of sodium. How do you FEEL, how do your clothes fit, how hard are you breathing when you climb stairs, can you keep up with your kids/dogs/partner. These are more telling than any number thrown up by a computer program, in my opinion. And I've got a load of them! Nancy | |||

| Thanks Pat for the BMR link, I am 1252 cals. I've gone gluten-free for a week, to see if it helps with my energy levels, gutache after eating. Will report here with results! Nancy, England in the midsixties sounds like a wonderful time to visit. We're going to London in early April - can't stand the place anymore, but we're to visit friends, so am biting the bullet. I have been sleeping, but of course, now that I've said that, I expect I will be up all night tonight, probably mulling over my more disastrous relationships in my lifetime. ciao guys! Nancy |
