| Weight Loss | How do you kick yourself out of a plateau? | May 21 2009 16:13 (UTC) |

I feel your pain. I started CC in January and went from 248 to 190. I have only got to lose 2 more pounds to get to 60 lost (one of my big milestone goals) but it just won't happen. For a month I've been at almost exactly the same weight, I used to see daily ups and downs on the scale but even that isn't happening anymore. I'm just always the same. I've spent a lot of time going through the "Ask Mary" archives and this is what I've found: -exercise every day and split your exercise into two 30 minute blocks, seperated by at least 20 minutes. -incorporate more spontaneous exercise, like taking the stairs, parking further from the grocery store, etc. -and then all the usual stuff- increase fiber and water, super count your calories, be patient. It sucks. But it's (apparently) beatable. |

| Weight Loss | how do I eat healthy if I hate veggies? | Apr 28 2009 17:54 (UTC) |

Some warm and squashy vegetables!!!! Goma Ae- Japanese spinach salad. Don't say no yet, you can't even TASTE the spinach, my friends that hate spinach love it. Boil some water in a big pot. Dunk spinach in it for about 30 seconds, until it's bright green and wilty. Pull it out with a slotted spoon, let cool a bit and squeeze out all the water. Keep doing that till you have enough spinach for however many people you are cooking for. While it's cooling make the dressing. You need sesame seeds, soy sauce and sugar (you can use low sodium soy but I wouldn't recommend splenda for this one. Brown sugar tastes the best. Also it NEEDS to be Japanese soy sauce, like Kikkoman) For each person use 1tbsp soy 1tbsp sesame seeds 1/2 tbsp sugar Toast the sesame seeds in a frying pan....get the pan really hot and swirl them around in it until they go all golden brown. Once they start to go brown get them off the heat..... Mix the dressing together. Pour on the spinach. Mix around. EAT. SOooooooooooooooo goood. |

Hey Thanks for sharing your story! You've done so well to lose all that weight once before...it must be really nice to know that you CAN do it! How's the journey up til now? Are you liking CC on your second go round? I've been on here for just over 3 months and lost just over 50 lbs, I really like it. I don't have any advice for you on maintaining (yet), since I've still got a ways to go but I do want to say congrats on getting back to it before you lost track entirely....and way to go on your first 5 lbs lost! You'll have to share your tips on maintaining with me once you get there.....I should be arriving to maintainance town December of this year at a svelte 140 lbs. Anyhow, good luck! |

| Weight Loss | do you think the size of your friends influences your weight? | Mar 17 2009 09:27 (UTC) |

I think this is a yes and no question for me. When I hang around with those people that can eat and eat (and DO eat and eat) without gaining then it`s harder to watch what I eat. I`ve been really lucky though recently. The friend that I hang around with most is really small, but works really hard to stay that way and is an AMAZING support. We go to the gym together almost every day and she`s so proud of everything I accomplish. If we get a bunch of friends together for dinner at her place she always makes sure there is lots of healthy options for me and through her I get to see what living a healthy lifestyle at a healthy weight looks like. |

You know, when I first came on here I would see all the posts of people saying "I just can't eat enough calories" and think "yah, right, that's nuts". But, as I started shopping healthier and finding that I love things like snap peas and kiwis I sometimes find that I get to the end of the day and have 600 calories left to eat. It's kind of scary thinking "I have to eat more" after diets have forever programmed us to eat less and I think that's part of the reason that it is hard to eat enough all the time.....the mentality that gets into your head is "if 1200 is good, 1000 must be better". It's hard to beat, but it's the only way to be healthy. I'm still working on it too.....I never thought that eating too little would be my problem! :) Anyhow, here's my tips -a banana with a tablespoon of almond butter, I put a bit of a.b. on each bite- 200 calories -kashi almond granola bars. No high fructose corn syrup, lots of protien and fiber, 150 cals -dessert tofu- there's peach, coconut and almond. Good if you don't like yogurt, they kind of taste like really light pudding. 90-110 cals |

I agree with Cherry, that guy looks awful. And I actually don't think he looks good for his age. My dad is that age, actually quite a bit overweight, and he looks a lot younger. They both just look so drawn....if either of them fall they ill have no padding and break their hips, they are just so underweight. |

I'm a nurse (almost, I'm in my 4th year of training) and I say.....get it out of you! A month without a BM in the hospital you would have been given SOOOOO many enemas. Are you sure it's been a month? Cause that's really, really not good. Even people that are all tubed up and not eating have BM's more often. Ok, here's some ideas: -a salt water flush probably isn't a bad thing. when you were anorexic you were doing it for illogical reasons. Now you are doing it so you don't perforate your bowel. Same action, different reason, don't let it get inside your head. -FIBER-all bran buds, prunes, any sort of dried fruit. Have you tried psyllium husks? I'm still having a hard time with this month thing. Please tell me you're exaggerating. I'm worried for you. |

Dear BwDavi's Friend You can indeed but alcohol up your bum. How you make it stay up there is your own deal, but I would like to point out one small thing. No one is ever going to sleep with you again. Ever. Congradulations on simultaneously limiting your calorie intake, rendering yourself the least attractive person in the world and amusing a website full of dieters. You are quite the multitasker. Sincerely yours eatlesslovemore ps. you should seriously think about getting a rectal exam. |

| Weight Loss | Nervous about joining a gym.. | Mar 10 2009 07:08 (UTC) |

I wouldn't worry too much about it....like everyone else has said, people will be all into what they are doing. All I'd say is to avoid a really trendy gym-rat gym...they tend to be the expensive ones. We have one where I live and it's full of barbies and testosterone monkeys. Plus, most of the people aren't actually there to work out, just to show off, so it has no good classes. I joined the community gym (The YMCA) here in town and it rocks, just lots of real people, tons of weight loss support and fun classes. Once you get in to it you'll love it, nothing kills stress dead like the gym. Good luck! |

| The Lounge | Tattoo Barbie - what's your take? | Mar 09 2009 05:00 (UTC) |

I think tattoo barbie sounds rad. Plus, if the stickers are washable then kids won't be stuck with permanent marker drawing all over their dolls.....like mine had. I used to put tattoos on all my dolls. Now I have one tattoo, its on my foot and I love it!! I thought about it for 3 years before I actually got it, and I think my homemade "tattoo Barbie's" unfortunate tattoos that never came off might have had something to do with that. |

I'd come back as a hippo, a giraffe or a moose. A hippo cause I mean, how adorable are they? And I love the water and they just kind of sleep in it all day. And, really, nothing eats hippos. They're just too big. A giraffe or a moose cause I think they look like they were made out of spare parts...they don't really fit together properly and I think it's freaking awesome. I've never seen anything cuter than a baby moose trying to run. |

Me too!!! But my ten 10 K is April 19th. I'm finding that I really love training for it.... I definitely didn't think I would. What's really helped me is the Sun Run Training schedule, its a 13 week schedule but since you're already up to 2k you should be able to start in at week 4 or 5. It's awesome, gives you pointers on how fast to run and gives you walk/run option too. If you feel like it's too easy then try out the Sun Run Faster but you shouldn't use that one unless you feel comfortable running (not jogging) for 30 minutes at a time. Both plans are from SportMed BC, if you follow them they'll help you not overdo it and hurt yourself. I heart the first one big time. Anyhow, I'll add you as a buddy, if you want an online buddy to do the training with send me a message! Good Luck! |

| Weight Loss | Help...I'm mid binge. | Mar 05 2009 02:07 (UTC) |

Don't be a jerk brame. Everyone makes mistakes and thinking of yourself in the frame of mind that brame suggests is a big big step towards failure. I think the biggest things that have helped me beat binging are: 1. Forgive myself. Binging sucks, it makes you gain weight but worst of all it makes you feel guuuuuuuuuuilty. I find that when I can stop and think to myself "I've been hurting myself, but I can forgive myself for it because everyone makes mistakes" I can stop the binge and move on. 2. Set a time limit. If I go to my family's place or somewhere I know I will be tempted to cheat then I short circuit the guilt cycle by saying "I will eat what I want from 4 until 6. Then I will take a deep breath, assess whether or not I'm hungry and eat right." I actually find that I cheat less than I would otherwise doing thins because it keeps me thinking about whats going in to me. 3. The 10 minute rule. Most cravings last ten minutes. If you can get through them using ANY of the strategies listed above you just might make it without ever getting into a binge. Good luck, its hard but you can do it!! |

I'm not sure if anyone has already put this on this forum but here's a few things I've found have really helped me get a bit of a handle on my binge eating (though I still really struggle) -a study they just did showed that the average craving lasts for 10 minutes. That means if you can just hang on and try and re-engage your mind on something else eventually (hopefully) your craving will go away. -my biggest thing was, like a lot of people have mentioned, blowing my calorie count and then feeling super duper guilty and then deciding since I'd ruined the day/week/month I might as well just keep going. The best thing I've found for this is planning times when I will probably go overboard and fogiving myself in advance. I went out to a friend's place for the weekend last weekend and I ALWAYS overeat there. So, this time, before I went out I said to myself "I know the food won't be good for me. I know I won't be under my calorie count. But I have been working hard, I will keep working hard and this break will not set me back." I was amazed at how much easier it was to eat smaller portions because there were no feelings of guilt attached when the only options avaliable were burgers. Anyhow, that's helped me out. I hope it helps some of you too! |

I'm 23. Ok, so I think I get it. If the counter tells me I need to eat 2250 calories a day and I exercise away 400 calories and eat 600 calories less thats a 1000 calorie deficit right? How much is the most you can safely take off? Thanks so much for the advice, I already love this site, its so supportive and the people that have been on for awhile are a great inspiration |
