whats the best, tastiest, cheapest source of protein? i LOVE canned beans, especially kidney, so i've been eating those a lot, but i was wondering if anyone had some other options. i don't like tofu, so that won't work, and i only have kitchen access once a week (I live at a boarding school), |

posting again, since i still haven't found a buddy =[ age: 17 my goal is to lose the weight by june 10th, for graduation on the 19th. i struggled with binging/purging and other ED tendencies before, so i do NOT want a buddy who will talk about purging, fasting (for the weight loss), or any other unhealthy weight loss techniques. |

| Young Calorie Counters | whats an example of what you eat in a day? | Dec 16 2009 00:36 (UTC) |

aurelia, she did say she'd try. when people said things like that to me, it always made me what to go back to the "safety" of my ED, so i'm still sensitive to condescending language. for break fast i have a few slices of melon, a few peices of pineapple, and a piece of bread/scone/cereal/oatmeal, and a cup of tea. i have an apple and a granola bar around 10 lunch varies greatly, since i eat whatever is in the cafeteria. usually some sort of icky pasta or a tomato sandwich. maybe a portion of desert, and about a cup of raw veggies with a table spoon of light ranch. i have another apple at 3:30 dinner is generally similar to lunch. every once in awhile i'll be lucky and they'll have beans or something. i wasn't very good at stocking up on proteins so far this term, and i'm about to start holidays, but i will definitely be shopping for kidney beans when i get back! |

cassenyalogan, the hiccups thing has more to do with blocking oxygen from coming in, so technically, the water thing will work. but so will holding your breath, or screaming, or any of those other silly things. the cravings things is probably just to distract you though =] |

Original Post by pinksocksrock: Babe, if you're trying to get to 95 lbs, that's not recovery. 95 lbs at 5'2" is a BMI or 17.4, which is underweight. You should be aiming for about 110-120, meaning your current weight is just right. |

thanks the_kats_meow. i've used that before, but it doesn't tell me my BMR or RMR, just how many calories i "should" eat. it says 2180, but that seems like a whole lot of food to me, and besides that, i'm pretty sure it would make me gain weight. are there any tools for teens that calculate BMR or RMR? |

At 5'3, a BMI of 20 is NOT 99lbs, a BMI of 20 is 115 lbs. 100 lbs would put you on the very low end of normal. Where you are is perfect. you can check the body graph here http://www.bcm.edu/cnrc/bodycomp/bmiz2.html for more info. |

That meal plan is no where near enough calories for a recovering anorexic. It probably seems like a lot of food to you, I know that seemed like a lot to me when I was still EDNOS, but it isn't enough. It's not hard to eat enough calories when you're vegetarian at all. Add in nuts for snacks, whole grain bread, vegetable stirfry, cheese, yogurt, fruit. If you need any help making meal plans, I can definitely be of assistance =] |

| Young Calorie Counters | Parents... | Nov 01 2009 19:11 (UTC) |

are you sure you're eating enough calories? that's SUPER important. it makes parents uncomfortable sometimes if you don't eat at the same times as they do, so maybe keep that in mind when planning your meals as well. meaning it might be better to save calories so that you can eat dinner with your parents. just so they don't get worried. |

welcome chelsea =] i went down a pound, now i'm back up two >.< i suffered from an eating disorder in the past, and it seems to be coming back. food isn't really appealing anymore, but i know i NEED to eat it, and i end up over eating to prove that i'm okay. i really need to focus on listening to my body, and see what it asks me for... i'm not really good at that yet. if any of you have recovered from an eating disorder, some advice would be great. =/ |

i'm a fair bit younger (16, 17 in two weeks!), but i could definitely use something like this too!! i'm trying to recover from disordered eating, and it's way harder than i expected. i'm at the high end of normal (5'5, 150lbs, BMI around 25), so i'd like to lose some weight, but in a HEALTHY way. |

Figure out what type of eater you are and you might just find the answer to permanent weight loss.
Take the Diet Profile Test and learn to avoid the pitfalls and self-sabotage that often come with your personal profile.
