Foods What's your favorite fruit and when is it in season? Mar 04 2009

My faves are strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, pinapple, mango, pomegranite, and cherries - none of which are in season in Canada right now :(

We get berries and cherries in season in June/July, and mangos, pineapple and pomegranites don't grow here

Fitness Joggers' cough? Mar 03 2009

I would chalk it up to the smoking. Gets all the gunk in your lungs moving around. I know several smokers and they get it too, but it goes away after they have quit smoking for a couple months.

I have seasonal allergies and have noticed that now that it is warming up I am getting that cough after running too - weezy and phlegmy - but it does go away. So it could be allergies as well.

The Lounge Prograding or retrograding? Mar 03 2009
07:37 (UTC)

The earth has a prograde orbit - meaning that it orbits the sun counterclockwise when the solar system is viewed from the pole star Polaris. It also has a prograde spin, meaning is spins counterclockwise around its rotation axis. Most planets exhibit prograde motion around their spin axes and when orbiting the sun. Retrograde means a clockwise spin - exhibited by Venus and Uranus. Some extraplanetary bodies (comets, asteroids) have a retrograde orbit around the sun.

Planets, by definition:
 - orbit the sun
 - are large enough to have their own gravitational field
 - said gravitational field is large enough to clear the immediate area of other objects

For example - the earth orbits the sun, is large enough that is has its own gravitational field, and has cleared the area around it of other objects (asteroids, etc). The Asteroid Belt, located between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter, does orbit the sun but each individual asteroid does not have a large enough gravitational field to clear the surrounding area of other objects. Hence why this belt consists of a whole mass of debris and is not consolidated into something that would be considered a planet, by definition.

Keep in mind that many astronomical definitions are arbitrary and are based on parameters that "make the theories work"

i hate it too, but you have to look on the bright side.  If you've been overweight before then you will have a better understanding of the value of having a healthy body.

I was 252.5 lbs when I was 16 years old.  I was busting out of a size 20.  I could literally walk into a mall and not find a single thing in any of the stores.  In my eyes, I would love to be a size 12, 10, or 8.    If you've always been a size 2 then a size 8 might be your worst nightmare.   Its kind of like a child whose been spoiled.  If you are used to getting 100 dollars allowance from your parents, then if they started giving you 10 dollars allowance you'd be pissed.  If you never got allowance before in your life, you'd be happy with 10 dollars a week.

Some people do it for attention and some people just dont know how good they've got it.  Even if you work hard to maintain your healthy/skinny body, I think its a probably a lot easier to maintain a good thing, then have to lose at least 100 lbs like some people do.

Being skinny isn't being spoiled. While some don't have to put in any effort to keep the weight off, the large percentage of skinny people work for it. They aren't spoiled. They got jobs when they were 15, and worked their way up the pay scale until they made 6-figure salaries. And while the money may rock, it came with a lot of effort. And fat people aren't underpriviledged children who never got allowance, they are the ones who dropped out of high school and bummed off of their parents until they were in their early 30s, then decided to get minimum wage jobs.

She isn't saying that skinny people are spoiled at all! Try reading the post first.

She is likening it to a matter of PERSPECTIVE

dippy eggs = soft boiled

I've never heard of a 'dippy' egg before, but I love them soft boiled.

Hmm.  Maybe it's just my  family then!  You soft boil them and put them in the egg cup yeah?   And then spoon off the top and dip toast into the yolk?

That was the my dad's signature breakfast! He would make that for me and my brothers almost every weekend :)

Padded shorts will help as well if you don't want to buy a new seat.

Go for a walk if you really want some activity. I always found that made me feel a little bit better when I was suffering from chronic sinus infections.

Usually strenuous exercise made me feel worse, especially when I was tired.

Smelling and/or tasting food is enough to kickstart the digestive system. It causes chemicals to be released by the brain as a reaction to either the sight, smell, or taste of food.

Sweet potatoes also taste amazing done this way:

Slice peeled sweet potatoes like a french fry

Mix a 1 tsp olive oil with ~1 tbsp dried dill, 1/2 tsp garlic powder, pepper and seasoning salt to taste

Toss sweet potatoe fries in this mixture and bake in 350-375 oven til golden brown (about 20-30 minutes) turning once or twice

Delicious!

Health & Support Sinus Infectionnnn Feb 03 2009

I've been in your shoes, trust me. Two years ago I got SEVEN joint/sinus ear infections in a row in 4 months and went on seven courses of antibiotics so I feel your pain.

You don't like nose spray but seriously besides antibiotics which treat the symptoms, nose spray is about the only thing that works.

I started taking preventative measures, and haven't had a sinus or ear infection in two years. Here is what I do...

The very instant I feel a sinus infection coming on, I use something similar to a Neti Pot. Basically all it is is a squirt bottle which gets filled with warm saline solution. Irrigate the nose/sinuses to the point where it drains out the other side, blow nose, repeat. Sounds gross but it totally works. Basically, sinus infections happen when a certain level of allergens build up in the nose/sinus. Once you pass the threshold, infection begins. By flushing these out on a regualr basis during problem times, you can prevent the infection from taking hold in the first place.

In the mean time, I would recommend going for a long walk outside if you want exercise. I always felt like the fresh air really helped to clear my head out.

Lots of times when you get a gym membership, they will throw in 1 personal training session to help get you started. I think that would be your best option because they will assess you, listen to your goals, etc., and try to tailor a routine that best suits you.

If a training session was not included but you can afford it I highly reccommend buying one session. It will get you going and the workout they give you will be good for a couple months.

Good luck!

I have the squirt bottle kind. I use it whenever my sinuses act up (springtime usually). I swear it changed my life! I went from having joint sinus/ear infections for up to 3 months of the year to not having a single sinus or ear infection in the past year and a halp. Amazing change considering I was on 7 courses of antibiotics for recurring ear/sinus infections in 2007!

Highly reccommended!
