Jodi - just so you know, adding weights will at first decrease your 'weight' loss because you're adding muscle, but eventually it will increase your loss because muscle burns more calories than fat.  And every time you lift weights, your body increases the amount of calories it burns over the next 2-3 days!

This makes me feel better because I have had no weight loss since I started weight training again.  I hope this comes true soon, I would like some verification of my hard work shown on the scale.

Hey all, I'm late, but I will keep track of my own weight this week at 157 :) I worked out at the gym 2 nights already this week and am doing spin class tonight. I feel strong and confident.  I have been eating really well, but this weekend I have made a promise to myself to not go overboard like I have been. It has been affecting my progress.  My goal is to be at 150 by June 27th.  Good luck to you all!!!

When I'm trying to have a low cal filling lunch (I know you're looking for dinner) I usually have some filling soup with a wheat roll and I feel pretty good.

Fitness Alternatives to an olympic bar? May 29 2009

Unless you're lifting a lot of weight I doubt you will incur an injury from the Smith Machine.  The Smith Machine has many pros and cons and you will find a lot of people have different opinions about it.  I say give it a try and if you don't like it then don't use it.  melkor they would be static lunges and I think they are a great on the Smith machine, you should try it at your gym.

I use the smith machine all the time. I do lunges and squats with it.  It does feel a little different but has the same affect.  My personal trainer had me use it yesterday and my quads are feeling it today.  I wouldn't be afraid of it.  I also use dumbbells too and the bar, but I like to mix it up with all three usually. You can do squats with the fitness balls too. For the dead lifts my trainer had me stand with my feet together on a step (for aerobics) and reach down with the bar as far as I could go and back up. Does your gym have bench press bars?  You could use those also, just steal them from the bench.

I am in too. I've lost 12 lbs and have a steady 1 lb loss per week and am increasing my activity so I hope I could up it to 2 lb per week and loose 10 by June 27th, I am in a wedding also.  This is my first challange also and am very excited!!!  My goal is 145 and a new bikini!  It is amazing how great you feel knowing you just keep loosing and loosing every week, slow but steady.  Good luck everyone Cool

How much did you increase your calorie amount?  I think that is what I am having trouble with.  I just don't know how much!

I put in your stats in the calorie target tool and put you at moderately active and it said that you should have 1495 calories with your activity level.  It sounds like you need to add a couple things into your diet. This was with just putting a 30 lb more loss, I wasn't sure how much you were wanting to loose and when your goal weight was.  I would mess around with that calorie target tool.

Fitness Spinning Apr 30 2009

I take spin class all the time and the only soreness received is from the stupid seat. It is a great cardio workout, I'm addicted to it!  I only get sore from weight training and running.  Keep at it! :)

Weight Loss BURN FAT: Weights vs. Cardio Apr 14 2009

I'm not an expert so I'm not going to say cardio vs. weight lifting is better, but I think combo of both is perfect.  Have you ever done the group classes?  If you haven't I would give them a try, spin class is my favorite and is one class that will kick your butt and burn tons of calories.  What everyone else says about warming up with cardio 5-10 min, then weights, then cardio is what my personal trainer says too.

Motivation what was your accomplishment today? Apr 13 2009

Saturday I passed up drinking a whole bunch and decided to drink a whole bunch of water instead of beer, this was a big accomplishment.  I see a lot of empty calories going to alcohol and that is something I am watching now.  Not only will I loose weight this way, but I will also not feel like crap the next day anymore and have more energy for good eating and exercise. But I can still have a good time with my friends. On Sunday we had pizza for lunch and I only had one piece and a side salad instead of half the pizza.  I felt satisfied and not like a lump of crap after eating.  Today's accomplishment will be to go work out with my personal trainer and step up the excercise routine.

Oxygen magazine

it gets me to the gym, or on the treadmill everyday... once I  read a couple pages, and see the awesome bodies, and I'm totally in the zone and ready to sweat!

it's full of new moves and routines too to keep things interesting.. I'm always up for a challenge!

The articles are very motivating and uplifting too, and it's packed with tons of clean eating advice and recipes.. and the covergirls, ahhh how I aspire to be one!!

 I love this magazine!!

Things that have motivated me is finding an activity that I really enjoy or listening to some good music to lift weights to.  I had always done tons of cardio, whether it was step aerobics, spin class, or kickboxing--which I really looked forward to going to because it was fun. Also, don't be intimidated by these classes, they have different levels you can do for beginners and after one time you become a pro.

I never did lift weights though, until I got a personal trainer, who is a huge motivator.  Some other things that helped me be motivated is get a workout buddy, there would have been so many days where I would have never gone to the gym but I knew she was counting on me to be there so I would drag myself there and I was always happy that I did.

Weight Loss After dinner cravings ruin my whole day for me! Mar 24 2009

I have a huge problem with eating late night snacks and I'm not sure if it is going to work yet, but it seems to help me if I eat really small meals throughout the day. I will sip on water with some sort of fruit juice mixed in with it like lemonaide or grapefruit juice in between meals until dinner.  Then I get more calories for dinner and a snack for my late night cravings.  I used to eat larger meals during the day and then realize that I go over with dinner and an after dinner snack.  I'm always trying new things, but we will see what works for me.

I do like the hot chocolate (sugar free) idea though.
