To answer your question, the machines are probably loud enough as they are. I wouldn't notice an atomic bomb going off. Most people already have their iPods cranked up in their ears too lol. But on top of all that, nobody really cares. I mean, most everyone's there to work their tail off. It only shows how hard you are willing to push yourself. Be proud of your heavy breathing! :) |

Thanks for that link, poutyface - just the thing I was looking for! To the others - I didn't feel like taking the time to estimate 2 oz. and cook it. Not worth it LOL. I was thinking someone on CC might know it off the top of their head. It would save some pasta. And no I don't have a food scale and I am serious about my calories. |

YES please do! It seems like your body went into a kind of starvation mode at 1500 and slowed your metabolism down to compensate for the huge deficit. You should probably shoot for a little more than 1700 actually. |

Oh I see! Well, it depends on how much you want to gain/why you want to gain/etc. If you ask me, I'd say put on the weight gradually. |

Ok well I just got a new personal trainer who will help me accomplish whatever my goals are - I kept a food/exercise diary for a little less than a week, and she told me to stop eating after 6 or 7 pm. I'll let you know when and how the changes happen. :) |

Seriously, your body thinks its being starved - therefore it's holding onto fat. Eat at least 1,500 for a week and see how it is. Trust me - I used to eat like you're eating now, and the scale wouldn't budge. I only lost weight when I bumped up the calories. :) |

mutoko- Well, I guess its different for everyone. I've read of some people who it them a couple of weeks before the pounds came off. Some people also gained a little bit at first, but then it started falling right off. I think it's probably just some water weight. Give it a little more time. |

I think there are two things combining to make your weight loss minimal right now - 1. You quit smoking. It's pretty much common knowledge that your metabolism tends to (temporarily) slow down after quitting. I don't exactly know how much or for how long, but it's probably a major reason for the lack of weight loss. High-five for quitting, though! =) 2. You're simply not eating enough for someone with your stats! When you have a deficit of say more than one thousand calories, your body thinks it is being starved and hangs onto fat for protection. Increasing it gradually (say maybe to 2000-2200) could give your body the go ahead to lose. Good luck!! |

yeah, most of us are all too familiar with feeling uncomfortable about our calorie intakes...it's SO hard to quit after you've taken a few bites of something sinfully delicious...pretty soon a few bites turns into a few more, and before it registers, you've already eaten too much! sometimes, though, I use "cheat days" to try and give my metabolism a little shock. don't fret about it though...yeah, think of it as a metabolism shock! :) just don't let it become a habit. whatever07 - congrats! we'll stick with ya through those pesky "last 10"... ;) right now, i'm focusing on high intensity interval training for cardio, along with walking on an incline. i don't particularly love weight training, but i force myself to do it anyway. i spend about 20 mins on weights 3-4 days a week. i also aim for 50 squats and 3-4 mins walking lunges every night.

hey mutoko- gaining weight made me terrified as well. but i read enough on CC to give me the courage to do it, and didnt gain a single pound. in fact, i was sick at the time and quite sedentary. i still lost 2 lbs! just dont up them all in one shot...i upped them by 200-300 the 1st several days, and then i upped them about 100 every few days after that till i got to like 1600 or 1700. i've heard of some people gaining maybe a pound or 2 at first, but then they lose those 2 and more right after. i think this will normally only happen if they up them all at once though... anyway it's sooooo worth it =P good luck! =) p.s.- keep us posted on how the cycling goes...ive been contemplating that. |

| Weight Loss | Why am I not losing any more weight? | May 31 2009 13:29 (UTC) |

I'm kind of in the same boat. I'm trying to lose "the last few" right now and I'm not. I used to be 115 until I lost 5 lbs from Thanksgiving to New Years and I didn't know why. I was getting pretty frustrated with no further loss so I asked for advice on CC and they told me to up my calories. At the time, I wasn't eating above 1,200 a day. Many days were more like 700! In the first few days of eating more I lost 2 lbs, and then another lb. I kept eating between 1400-1800 for the next couple of months until I got sick for only a few days and lost 2 more. A few weeks went by and nothing else was lost, but then I ate 1800 for a straight week and lost a lb. Ate it for another week and lost nothing. So then I tried 2 days 1300 and one day 1700 for a week, and lost maybe 1/2 a lb or even 1 lb. Now it's been about 3 weeks since and I'm not sure what to do anymore. By the way, I'm 5'0", so this is completely healthy for me (I checked). One thing I would suggest for you to do is increase your intake to 1500, and then maybe add 100 every week until you get to maybe 1700. Find out how much you burn in a typical day - it will give you a good idea of where you are at. But definitely up your calories. |

hey mutoko78 - Wow we're very similar! I actually lost 10 lbs since Thanksgiving b/c of upping my calories. I'm trying to lose about 3-4 "vanity lbs" too. And I'm a 5 foot gym rat lol! :P My weight loss kinda halted about a month ago (it was always on and off though...until something happened like i got sick or upped my cals). I've been eating anywhere from 1300 to 1800 a day...trial and error like...and its been so hard...I hear ya. :P Now I just don't know how many to eat! And it's not like I have time before summer hits....I'm praying though. :) |

violetorchids - Congrats on quitting smoking! =) It's great that you're now doing yoga/strength training. I have a feeling that only 15 mins on the bike, however, is hardly enough cardio to make any difference. Try increasing your speed or ride over hills and definitely add time! At least 30 minutes 4-5x a week is what I would begin with. |

Thanks guys! I've been eating 1500-1700 cals a day for the past few months (after upping them from 1000-1200...lost weight from the upping) and now the scale wont budge! I'm aiming to lose about 4 lbs by August...hoping to lose 2 of them by June 20. :) CC says I burn 2000-2100 a day as well. Still haven't lost! :( Thanks for the tips...maybe I will eat maintenance for a bit...and then zig-zag. It stinks though that I don't have much time to experiment. If there's anything more anyone would want to add - please do!!! :) |

I bet though that starting to exercise regularly will make a big difference. It hated the gym at first, but then I really thought about it; what's worth more - comfort or the body you want? I hear you though, it's tough at first to get the motivation, but then you start to enjoy it more when you see the results. It is really worth the work. =) |

Hey, listen - You are starving your body, therefore forcing it to hang onto fat. You need to increase your calories by quite a bit before you will lose anything. I have been guilty of this myself. When I started eating more, I finally began to lose weight after over a year of never going above 1,200 and exercising every day. Finally, the people on this site told me I needed to up my calories and also shared their own experiences with me. I swear you will not lose any weight while eating this little. Have you put your stats into CC's burn meter yet? You should do so. You might me shocked at what you see. But I'm warning you: if you do not increase your caloric intake, you are setting yourself up for failure. I'll be checking back on this to help you further. Do some research! |

I alwayshave a ready supply of sugar-free Jell-o on hand! It has 10 calories per 1/2 cup serving (I usually have more than that lol) and to my surprise, I found it to be rather filling! Also, Weight Watchers has some low-fat icecream bars that are pretty darn good. ;) |
