Weight Loss What triggers your I'm-so-famished-I'll-eat-ANYTHING madness? Sep 17 2009

I only get that way if I let myself go too long without eating!  Mabye try a snack late afternoon.  I usually have a snack (peanuts or cottage cheese) around 3:30pm and then I eat supper around 5:30pm.  Just a thought :)

I definitely agree with peaches & micha!  There are a lot of people here who come to browse and look for helpful answers/solutions.  I would hate for someone to read this post and think it is ok for THEM to consume only 1200 calories per day.  I learned the hard way also and tried the magic 1200 number only to sit at the same weight for months.  I am now happily losing on about 1500/day and that doesn't include any vigorous exercise regiman :)  Good luck to the people who are taking the time to do some research on this and trying to sustain a healthy lifestyle!

So if my BMR is 1309, I need to eat at LEAST that many calories even though CC says 1293 (I know it's close enough)!  I also have my activity level set at "lightly active" to get that 1293.  I still think the 1309 is low...considering that's what I would burn if I were in a coma.  I am eating about 1500 calories/day and have only been losing about 1/2lb per month :<  I am ok with that, but it would be nice to get these last 10lbs off within the next couple of months :)

I guess it will have to be trial and error for me then!  I updated to my current weight and it calculated 1293 for me to lose 5 more pounds in 4 weeks....??  I set myself at "light activity" as I don't do any set workouts...just busy cleaning, kids, etc.  It seems really low to me.  I am 5'3", 135lbs and 29yrs old.

Weight Loss 5'4, 140...anyone out there? Jul 10 2009

I have been doing this since Feb and I started out tracking EVERYTHING I ate in the food log.  This really helped me out to realize what I was eating and how much.  I don't do that anymore, I just count now.  Anyway, I started out eating 1200 a day because that is what the tool said and I wasn't losing any weight.  I then did some research and asked some questions and I learned I needed to increase the calories.  That's when I upped it to 1500/day.  I noticed the biggest weight loss then.  I then got confused and thought maybe that was too much (I didn't realize the weight loss at that point until now) so I decrease to about 1300-1400.  I am not gaining but I don't think I am losing as much as I would like to so I think I am going to try to increase to 1500-1600 again.  Sounds so weird but it really works.  You have to try to find out what works for you and your body.  My advice is to maybe increase and stay around the 1400 for sure....especially if you don't find it feasable to eat 1200 calories everyday.  I don't know what kettleball exercises are....enlighten me!

Here is what I usually eat throughout the day:

Breakfast - 2 pieces of peanut butter toast on whole grain bread (280 calories)

Lunch - either a salad or turkey sandwhich (300-450 calories)

Snack - fruit or veggies or cottage cheese/crackers (100-220 calories)

Supper - whatever I want that fits into my calorie allowance

I hope this helps you out!  It takes some mastering but once you have it figured out it seems so easy as if you aren't trying to lose weight, then you know you are doing it right :)

Well, I am 5'3" and 140lbs...close enough!  What are you doing for exercise/eating?  I am kind of struggling with how many calories to consume.  Right now I am eating around 1400-1600/day.  I consider myself light to moderately active.  I exercise when I can otherwise I stay pretty busy with housework and a 1 and 3 year old.  I started out in Feb at 146, so it's going slow.  I pretty much know that I am consuming more calories than I think, so I really want to start exercsing to increase my deficit.  I will support you if you support me :)

Good luck!

Are you exercising as well?  Just a thought, but it sounds like you aren't eating enough calories.  I am a 29 yr old female and I am eating at LEAST 1500 cal to lose weight and I am farely active.  You might want to try to up your calories.  Also, like "candessb" said, stick with it!  Hope this helps :)

Ok, how should we keep each other accountable?  I will aim for tonight, Sat & Sunday of this week  I really want to see the results after I finish this 30 days.  I can honestly say I noticed a difference after only doing it about 5 times.....I can just imagine what I will feel like when I complete it :)  If you'd like, you can message me and I can give you my email.

I am a super busy mom/wife/socialite also, so I think the 3-4 times per week is doable!  Can't wait to get started :)

By the way..you will LOVE this video!  It goes back to basics, but is really trying!  AND it's only 20 minutes...my kind of workout!

I've been looking for you!  LOL!  I have the video and have done it a handful of times, but not consistantly.  I absolutely love the video.  So, I am confused as to why I fell off the wagon.  My weight loss is still going strong, but I definitely need to do more than my occasional walks.  How often do you plan on doing this?  Daily, every other day?  I want today to be the day!  However, I am so busy and actually I am leaving for a few days to go north for some R&R.  I can try to make tonights, but won't be back until Sat!  Let me know your thoughts "buddy"!!

Oh yeah, stats:

29 - female, 5"3", SW 146, CW 138, GW....??until I feel comfortable!  I am thinking 130??  Or maybe more once I start exercising. I don't care what the scale says.  I guess I am content but just need to tone up :)

I've gotten about 5 comments in the last week asking if I lost weight and that I look great!  What an awesome feeling!  The thing is, is that I haven't weighed myself from the beginning so I have NO idea how much I've lost.  It's obvious in my clothes and when I measure myself, but I don't know the lbs.  I am guessing about 10lbs...??  I am 5'3" though, so that might be why...I'm a shorty :)  Congrats to all and keep going!

Well, I guess it's safe to assume that's not a possibility :)  I would definitely agree with everyone else by saying 1500-1700 would be a great number for you.  Good luck!

I agree with thmheh!  I have been rinsing my ground beef for sometime (don't tell my husband, lol).  I do notice quite a bit of grease that comes off when I rinse.  It doesn't hurt!

I am on a low fat cottage cheese, wheat thins and fruit kick for my snacks!  So yummy!  It's a good thing we have a fridge here at work.  If not that, then almonds or nuts.  Boy, 5 years ago I would've been pissed off if that was all I had for a snack :)

this might sound really stupid, but what IS a plank!?

The plank position is very close to a "push up" position.  You can do it on your hands or forearms.  They should be spaced even with your shoulders vs a push up they are farther spread.  That is my understanding!  Chime in, if I am incorrect :)

WOW is right!  6lbs is 6lbs!!  I second that thought about finding another website.  It's negativity like this that set people back!

Way to go nutbox!  You are well on your way to successful weightloss....don't give up :)

I definitely agree with you mperic81!!  I have the small hips, butt and nice legs, but a nasty gut that will not go away!!  I am chalking that up to having a baby (10 months ago, lol).  No, I've never had a flat tummy :(  But as I said, I agree with you about not losing your femininity.  I also thought that I wanted to be that super skinny, petite woman.  But the more I think about it, I kind of like my curves!  Apparently so does my husband.  I started really losing weight and when we were intimate one time (sorry TMI!), he said, "I got nothing to grab onto anymore".  In a way that made me feel great,  but then it didn't!  My goal is to lost/tone up, but still keep the curves :)  .....which means alot of exercise!!

Weight Loss Do activities include your BMR? Apr 23 2009

The sex thing is funny!!!  LOL.

Anyways....to answer your question, yes you would be "double dipping".  I figured out that I would normally burn about 72 calories/hour by not doing anything.  I then looked up sitting at a desk and I would burn around 84.  So if you want to get technical about the calories you are burning per day you can substitute the 84 vs the 72 for those 6 hours you are at work!

I hope that helps :)

That would make sense....I didn't use my weight in "kilos"!  I put in my info at another website and it said for light activity I should be eating 1940 to maintain.  So my 1500/day I aim for is pretty good?

I've asked this before, but I always get conflicting answers!

Thanks again :)

Weight Loss How long did it take you to notice a difference? Apr 22 2009

I agree with ily51...  You yourself probably won't notice a huge difference initially, but other people will.  I still can't tell too much of a difference when I look in the mirror, but in clothes I can tell after about 2 months.  My brother, who doesn't see me very often coudn't believe how much weight I've lost!  I haven't weighed myself since I started so I really don't know how much I've lost!

If you heard it once, you heard it a thousand times.... YOU'RE NOT EATING ENOUGH!  I put your stats in the calculator and you should be eating at LEAST 1600-1900 per day.  I made the same mistake by eating too few calories and I increased them and the weight literally melted off!!  I hope this helps :)

Thank you so much!  I kind of thought it should be around 1500 or so.  I came up with 1700 a day because I added some little misc activities that maybe I shouldn't have!  I love to eat and love to exercise so it's a great combination :)  I will make it a goal to get that extra 30 min of exercise a day in!  Again, thank you!
