I gained....a lot. I am super bummed....I know how it happened....stress at work (layoffs, pay cuts again, and even more reduced hours) led to me feeling bad for myself and allowing myself to eat and not work out. I know why I did.....Now I just need to get back on track. I debated not posting b/c it is embarrassing.....but at least now I feel like I have to prove to myself (and this challenge) that I can do it. Stay motivated everyone......

Hip: 46"
Arm: 14
Thigh: 27"

Why? because I need to start really controlling what I am doing to my body in order to make changes finally. I am sick of talking about "next week" or "when I start eating better and working out again".....now it's all about action instead. I need to lose weight to feel more confident and happy with myself. I am sick of being self-conscious of myself....I want to be confident and positive!

I used to hate:

Onions & Green Olives

Now I love dirty martini's and I use onions (raw and cooked) in practically every meal I cook.....I think my love for onions developed after I started enjoying Indian cuisine. It turns out all of their curries start with browning and entire onion....who knew? haha....

Goals for me:

- stop overeating - It turns out I am a grazer....I start and I just can't stop. A little of this...a little of that turns into 500 calories of stupid food that I didn't need to eat.

- workout 4 times a week - good workouts too.....an hour of cardio plus abs and arms or legs.

- try to go for walks at night instead of watching tv for hours.

Weight Loss PLEASE HELP! How to get back into it? Sep 01 2009

This is me in a nutshell. I did the same thing...really good for 15 lbs. off....then all of a sudden I just stopped. No more logging in, no more caring about coming to this website, eating whatever I wanted, and working out was completely out of my mind. Then I went on vacation and ate/drank whatever I wanted. I came back and realized that I had to at least try to do better. So I started logging in again, starting considering calories in my meals prior to eating them, and started planning out my meals regularly in order to stay on track. Since last Monday I am down 2.4 lbs. after gaining back everything I had lost initially.

I don't know what specifically made me start again....it was just that I was fed up with eating bad and knew I had to start again in order to hit a goal....any goal. Currently I am taking the mindset "a little bit at a time"....I'm not being super strict or being overly compulsive about calories or working out...I'm just trying to overall be more conscience about what is going into my body and it seems to be doing the trick.

Good luck with getting back on....you can do it! The hardest part is starting....you've lost weight before so you know what to do....you just need to do it!

Weight Loss how much do you spend on food? Aug 31 2009

I spend on average $50 a week on food for my husband and I....recently things have been tight due to a pay cut at my job....so I've been trying really hard to be frugal and smart about what I buy.

Some ways that I am able to do that are by making 2-3 meals a week that we can eat as leftovers (turkey meatloaf/low fat chicken enchiladas/curries) and other nights when we are sick of leftovers I'll make some chicken (from a frozen bag...it's not as bad as you would think...just have to thaw it out while at work)....it is pretty hard sticking to this budget especially since I love to cook and I love going to the grocery stores....sometimes I leave a little depressed b/c I couldn't buy anything fun! It's silly but true!

Good luck to all of you as well....it's hard to keep my mindset positive and to not give in to my cravings. It's so silly....I know exactly what I need to do....it's just I don't want to do it for some reason! I was actually debating about going to the gym tonight...but after reading these I am off right now! Thanks everyone!

My major downfall is snacking after I get home from work before dinner. If I can...I would eat a normal dinner size portion of snacks.....then I eat dinner on top of that a few hours later. I have to really control myself when I get home.....I'm just so hungry usually. I've started working out right after work so there is no option for snacking. So far so good!

It's true...the pain does go away eventually because you get used to it. They sell spandex shorts that have extra padding in that area for bikers...they also sell padded seat covers...you should be able to find either of those at any sports store. Good luck!

Weight Loss No support from my husband about weight loss. Jul 28 2009

My husband usually is supportive....but lately (like for the past 2 months!) I've been slacking and he's been making comments - I don't like it at all. It's not motivating to hear anyone say "oh ok, I'm sure you'll wake up early and do your video" - or "we'll see if you go to the gym". ugh. I mean, he's not trying to be mean I think, I guess it would be annoying to hear my saying the same things over and over......I wish it would make me want to prove it to him that I can stick with this. Oh well....what can you do I guess other than just keep trying to lose weight for yourself.

Anyways, good luck with this. I also have around as much weight to lose. Are you working out or just watching what you are eating?

I want to join in too! My husband burned it to a dvd for me a while back....I was into it for a while - then got lazy and stopped.

I want to do it a whole month and see what happens...my plan is to do it every morning before work....except I know how I am and I will try to talk myself out of it before getting out of bed. OK - so no more excuses right? 30 days straight......

Should we post stats?

Weight Loss I'm sorta intimidated to go to the gym Jul 02 2009
14:41 (UTC)

It was funny reading your post b/c it is so me as well! I will have the best of intentions at night time..."I'm going to wake up and go for an hour"...then my alarm goes off and while I am laying in bed I am the most persuasive person...I can talk myself out of anything. Then after work I plan on going...but I just feel intimidated.

The thing is though (and my mom has always told me this) that everyone is so worried about themselves that they don't even notice you. So that shouldn't be what intimidates you!

Anyways, good luck with the gym....I find that once I start going to a place I will feel more and more comfortable. I've moved recently and started going to a new gym and I am still pretty uncomfortable there...but I'm working on it.

I agree totally with you - size 0 is ok for some people, but completly irrational for others....those ladies in your profile are awesome....I know if/when I lose it I will always have a butt and boobs...and I'm happy about that...and I'm not ethnic..it's just the way the women in my family are! Thanks for writing this...it kind of cheered me up.

Games & Challenges Hi! Who wants to join me in a NEW!!! June challenge of losing 10 pounds :) May 27 2009

I'm in! I've never done a challenge on this site so this should be a nice challenge! 10 lbs...I need it!

To do this I am going to keep going to the gym and really concentrate on eating what I know I should eat! I have a big problem with getting off track and staying off track for a few days which sets me back of course! So for the month of June I am going to really focus on eating healthy and sticking around 1500 calories.

Good luck everyone!

Original Post by tribbeal:

You have absolutely no right to judge her or make her feel like it was the wrong choice. It can be a great experience if she isn't forced to feel guilty by friends and family and their stupid expectations (how girls can't ever have sex, oh no, because they are pure little flowers...but boys, well, that is a different story). Get over the  sexual hang ups, help her with any questions she has about birth control for the future, and maybe she'lll continue to trust you if she finds another love she wants to share the physical side with.

Thanks tribbeal for your input, but I think your response is completely inaccurate and wrong. I am not telling her to feel guilty or judging her. I don't know where you got that from any dialogue I have posted. I am as entitled to my opinion about sex as she is - but at the age of 16 for someone who may be physically mature but mentally immature (yes, she is...and I can say that because she's my sister and I know her) I don't think it is wrong for me to be concerned about her getting into this situation.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I appreciate the feedback and everything. It basically is enforcing what I am doing now - so that made me feel much better. We've always been close - I basically raised her since both parents worked so it was me and her all the time...I just want the best for her. Sex is so tricky...it's just such an adult thing and I can't help but think of her as a child still....I am just going to keep talking with her and make sure our line of communication is always open. Thanks again.

Oh and I meant with the casual statement that having sex is now on the same level as making out...it's kind of just what they do now when they are alone.

that's the thing...these kids do love each other in the way 16 year olds can. You know, saying you love each other and really meaning and knowing what love really is are different things. In my sisters case and I'm sure a lot of kids cases...they say they love you to their boyfriends after a day - and then they break up a few weeks later!

It is a milestone - and I don't think there is anything wrong with waiting. I don't think 16 year olds are mature enough mentally to take on all of the things associated with sex. It's hard....It's my little sister you know. I just want everything to be easy for her and not to grow up so quickly.....

Weight Loss midnight snacking? May 22 2009
13:46 (UTC)

When I am in snack mode I like to have frozen fruit (mango and grapes are the ones I love) because it keeps my mouth occupied and they're nice and sweet.....try something like that to satisfy your cravings.

I also use the 100 calorie bags of popcorn. Once I make them I put the popcorn into a big bowl because for some reason I feel like I am eating more when I am eating them out of a big bowl!

Good luck!

Have fun on your vacation!

Fitness Rowing Machine - Am I doing it right? May 11 2009
14:28 (UTC)

Well thanks everyone for the advice...I appreciate the responses....I was worried that I was wasting my time on the machine and doing it incorrectly - so now I'll just stick to things that I know are burning calories and that I am doing correctly!

When I think about it - I played volleyball in high school and college and when I see people playing who have no idea what they are doing it drives me absolutely crazy, so I completely understand actual rowers frustration watching people plow away on the machines in the wrong way!!!

My brother had it and told me it was really good - however, I haven't had it so I can't speak first hand!

Post what you think if you end up trying it....it would be a nice easy option if it turns out to be good tasting and a healthier option (just say no to the skin!).
