Yes and we'll call it 'Tact or Fiction: What to say when people comment on your weight loss and they clearly want you to say something other than what you are going to say, but you can't be bothered explaining the truth to them anyway and you just want to be left alone with your cottage cheese'.
Might have to be a BIG book. |

Move back to Paris! do the thing you enjoy! You only live once! You cant take money with you into the afterlife! Work to live dont live to work! blah blah blah Serioulsy though, why choose to be miserable when you know what makes you happy? Especially of the miserable option makes you unhealthy! What woul dyou rather have? Cash /Weight / eating problems / misery Happiness / health/ less cash Easy choice it seems to me. But surely there are creative roles in the States? If you hate a job, leave it. Its just a job, its not you its not your life its not what you were put on this planet for! You're here to live and experience things and enjoy life! Good luck!

and then what happened is... Holy moly, so the other day at lunch we had a staff barbecue, sausages, steak, coleslaw, the usual slop. Lovely. I'm eating my sausage in a bun, a guy comes up to me and says 'oh but you've been doing so well! You shouldn't be eating that!'*shakes his head* Funnily enough though, I didn't punch him in the face at all, I calmly said 'you know, its funny, I've lost 23kg without any nutritional advice from you, but now all of a sudden I need it! How strange!' and gave a girly laugh. Don't get me wrong I wouldnt swap my weight loss for any money in the world, but why are people so bad at dealing with it? Its a popular topic at work, except most people (who are quite a bit older than me) seem to think that starvation is the key, so when they see me eating anything at all other than an apple dipped in water they think I've fallen off the wagon. When they see somone else who's trying to lose weight eat nothing but 2 crackers with cottage cheese on them all day, they applaud it- and say 'my what will power you have!' I could bet them my knickers she goes home and gorges on the entire contents of the fridge after work.

Hey Jayz, I hear you. I am a 36E. I need to wear 2 bras to run at all, and they are so tight that it actually hurts my sides, but its the only way to run. That pain is less than the bouncing pain! Also what I have learned helps a little is - Wear tight tops Push your shoulders back Take longer strides |

| Fitness | RUNNERS--what do you think of when you're running? | Nov 23 2009 07:12 (UTC) |

I run outside - I know you're talking about on the treadmill - but what I think about is my feet, i.e where they are going and what I am stepping on, as on the track that I run on there are numerous lizards, snakes, bugs and things that sleep in the middle of the track. I also need to think about where the blazes my dogs are, as they go off chasing kangaroos and rabbits and often get lost and left behind! Also I need to think about the magpies and wattle birds that nest low down in the trees, as they will swoop your head and peck your hair if you dont pay attention. I also need to think about the flying bugs and flies that follow me and sometimes get inhaled as I puff away. Hmmmm Maybe I should just go the hell inside! |

| Calorie Count | Burn Meter vs. Eat Meter? | Oct 27 2009 00:42 (UTC) |
1 |
If you are trying to lose wieght, then the burn meter should be showing a number higher than the eat meter. This difference in eat / burn is what is called a deficit. It is how you can keep track of your energy usage and consumption. It is the entire basis of Calorie Count. Your deficit for weight loss should ideally be no higher than 1000 per day, but the minimum depends on how much weight you have to lose, the strategy you are using etc, most on here would say 200-500. Keep track of your deficits. Ideally CC should have a deficit tracker as well, lets hope they're working on it. I log mine on a spreadsheet, and it can help show you patterns in your habits, such as when you eat too much (saturdays fro me) It also shows the combined deficit for the week, so you can see (in theory) how much weight you will have burnt off (3500 cals = 1 lb)

How do asians eat mostly wheat? From what I've gathered, a traditional 'asian' diet features largely vegetables, lean meats /seafood and ofcourse, rice. Not trying to say wheat is evil dont eat it. Just saying, bread is always fobbed off as a health food, whereas that s not entirely true.

Original Post by trikki: Says the scientific community who study 'Lectins' - a highly toxic natural substance found in wheat. Lectins are found in ALL foods, certain foods more than others, and the same food may contain varying amounts of lectins depending on processing, when and where the plant was grown, and species. The most common potentially 'toxic' lectin containing food groups are grains, especially wheat and wheat germ but also quinoa, rice, buckwheat, oats, rye, barley, millet and corn. legumes (all dried beans, including soy and peanuts), dairy (perhaps more so when cows are feed grains instead of grass, a speculation based on research showing transference of lectins into breast milk and dairy and potentially more harmful in pasteurized, processed milk because of the reduction of SIgA, an immunoglobulin that binds dangerous lectins , Biol Neonate 1991;59(3):121-5 Davin JC et al The high lectin-binding capacity of human secretory IgA protects nonspecifically mucosae against environmental antigens.), NOTE: Only breast milk is good for babies. nightshade (includes potato, tomato, eggplant and pepper).
Lectins are hardy proteins that do not break down easily. They are resistant to stomach acid and digestive enzymes. Lectins may bind to the gut wall and damage the gut lining, are not altered by digestive enzymes, and may alter gut permeability and pass through the gut into general circulation. Lectins can cause alterations in gut function that may be related to colitis, Crohn's Disease, Celiac-Sprue, IBS and gut permeability. Lectin damage to the gut wall may allow other non-lectin proteins to cross undigested into general circulation and cause allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis. Having gained access to general circulation various lectins may bind to surface cell membranes in arteries and vessels, organs and glands, including the thyroid, pancreas, kidney and adrenals, in susceptible animals and humans. This binding may begin antigen antibody reactions leading to autoimmune disorders and so-called degenerative diseases. Different lectins have been implicated in different diseases. Dairy lectins have been implicated in juvenile onset type I diabetes. Wheat lectins have been implicated in juvenile nephropathy. Most persons are aware that there are certain foods they seem to 'react' to. Symptoms could be obvious, such as gas, bloating, diarrhea or constipation (or both, alternating). Less obvious symptoms may include headache, fatigue, 'indigestion', skin problems including hives, psoriasis, swollen joints or water retention. While some symptoms while resolve quickly after eliminating an offending family other symptoms may take 6-12 months. Be patient. If you are genetically intolerant you will never be able to consume that group of foods safely.

I'd been doing what I thought was HIIT for ages....I was running for 1 min, walking 1 min, for about 30 mins. I was tired, puffed, and satisfied that I'd had a good workout. Which I did I think, but it wasn't HIIT! I did my first session of HIIT - before redaing that article - sprinting on the elliptical for 30 secs, then walking pace for 30 secs, repeated for 13 minutes. O. My. God. I have never been that tired! What a workout! Admittedly, according to the table I went from level 0 to level 7-8, which may explain it, but I cant wait to see the result after 8 weeks of it! Anything that awesome has gotta be good. And the saving in time is unbelievable. Theres got to be a catch! Almost too good to be true, that you can get that good a workout in 13 minutes! I plan to do that 2-3 times a week, and then 2-3 times a week do some light cardio for about 40 minutes.

Why compound already dreary Mondays with a weight loss plan? Everyone feels like crap on Mondays, so you're probably less likely to stick to any plans you make. Heres what I would do. Plan out what you are going to eat for the next 3 days. calculate your calorie needs, the deficit you would like to aim for, and plan a menu that caters for it. Go buy the ingredients, nothing else, make the food (in advance if poss) and eat it over the next 3 days. Go for a walk. See how you feel. If all is well, plan the next 3 days. If not, if you are unhappy or feeling low, re-evaluate the menu, add in some enjoyable excercise, start again. Optimism and motivation are much easier to come by when you are feeling happy. Good food and excercise makes you happy, chemically and psychologically. Take one day at a time blah blah blah. Its sooo cliched, but its a cliche because its true. Also, make sure you are doing this for the right reasons. It wont work if youi are not dedicated and serious. half arsed efforts will produce half arsed results.
Good luck

Yes there is! Dont stress about it! Thinking too much gives you wrinkles :D 1. Drink loads of water - will help hydrate your skin, so it looks fresh and clean, and will help reduce any bloating. 2. I think all you might acheive in 2 weeks of heavy weights is an injury, so probably not a good idea, unless you want to have photos of yourself on crutches and a sling? 3. Cutting down on carbs is a good idea like you said, and alcohol definately. 4. wax Good luck! |

| Weight Loss | Carboholic | Oct 13 2009 02:58 (UTC) |
|
I would actually do the opposite of that... Eating lots of carbohydrates first thing, in my experience, raises my blood sugar levels briefly, then drops sharply and I get hungry again an hour later. This leads to eating more. The best thing is, eat a high protein low carb breakfast. Protein keeps you fuller for longer, as it doesnt raise your blood sugar. Have some carbs at lunch, then at dinner have more protein and low GI carbs such as vegetables, and maybe just a small portion of rice/pasta/potatoes. Its all about controlloing your blood sugar levels, when they're all over the place they can play havoc with your appetite, metabolism and general well being. Sugar crashes leave you feeling low, lethargic and bloated. Plus, the more carbs you eat the more you crave, so try reducing them slowly, so you get used to it. You will find that over time you will be fuller on less food, and therefore will consume less calories over all. PS there are no such things as 'complex' carbohydates. Look it up, its quite interesting. |

A comedian I remember saying ages ago: to freak people out at the shops, fill your trolley with wine, vodka, chocolate, condoms, cigarettes etc, and then a pack of nappies. When you get to the check out, pretend you don't have enough money, look searchingly through your trolley and only put the nappies back.

I'm amazed at what I see in some peoples trolleys! I see these little round women, huffing along, their purchases consisting of white bread, sugary cereals, litres and litres of full fat milk, orange juice concentrate, tinned everything, instant noodles- packaged stuff accounts for about 80%, then you see like a sad little bag of oranges or something at the bottom, crying from loneliness. I like my shopping, its usually about 80% fresh meat, fruit and veg, 10% pet food and toiletries, and 10% packaged. My boyfriend is always disappointed when I come home from shopping, as I never buy all thos elittle pre-packaged snacks that he loves. |

I logged all my food up until dinner already (its only 8.30am) , and brought a yummy healthy sandwhich and a fruit salad for lunch, and had porridge with honey for breakfast. I didnt bring any money or my bank card to work, as the shop across the road sells the nicest hot foods....very tempting at 12 o clock as the smells waft over....

| The Lounge | He won't marry me... | Oct 07 2009 01:14 (UTC) |

Instead of asking him to get his own account, which you've already said he's against and angry about, why not keep depositing his money in the joint account, and you get your own account. Then when one day he gets refused, maybe that will wake him up to how much he earns, and how much he spends. Respect of other peoples money is an important life lesson, its very easy to spend other peoples money. Maybe he gets angry because he feels guilty? Sounds like he needs a kick up the backside. Dont marry this guy simply because tradition or religion demands it. You'll be the one that has to live with him, not god. And if you have doubts already then getting married will only make things 100 times harder in the end. |

mine is not an ogler-at least when i'm around. When an attractive woman walks by or comes on tv, I expect him to look, and i watch for his reaction, but he hardly ever looks. Its weird -and no, he doesnt know i'm looking! im talking minute eye movement. I think its because he's not very observant, not for disinterest! hes always in his own world, whereas i watch everyone. I love people watching.I look more than him i think! Not that I'd care, we've been together 9 years and we're pretty sure of our relationship that it wouldnt matter if he did. I find it quite interesting to see what he finds worthy of an ogle.
