I don't think there is an answer - everyone is different and what works for one person won't necessarily work for another.

Weight Gain Getting used to the weight gain Jul 15 2009

Thanks for the replies. I suppose it will just take some getting used to.

For so long I have felt that my emaciated body was actually normal, and now I am getting bigger it feels 'wrong' somehow. I feel almost like I am doing something bad. I can't explain it, logically it's not wrong but I still have a crawling anxiety underneath about it all. Moments of panic.

It's not even about wanting to be skinny. Personally, I think curvy is so much more attractive. I don't particularly want dry skin and hair and no bum. It's just safe.

I had to buy a new bra yesterday. Part of me is like 'whoop!' and part of me is feeling so so scared and repulsed. But this is all part of recovery - facing these fears and feelings and just having faith that they'll diminish.

Weight Gain So confused - please help! Jun 19 2009

Your eating disorder will grab at anything to use as amunition against you and your recovery. I'm sure the nurse meant well and was trying to reassure you as you find calorie increases stressful but, just as when someone says we look 'well' and we translate that as 'fat', well intentioned comments tend to get distorted in our minds. You know rationally your weight is too low so try and trust your judgement.

Good luck x

Maintaining Ridiculous ED Memories Jun 17 2009

I definitely could not think properly when I was at my worst point. Someone would tell me something and minutes later I would have forgotten it completely. My mum said it was like being with someone with dementia as she was constantly having to repeat herself!

I also completely lost the ability to read. I couldn't focus or concentrate enough to read a newspaper or magazine article let alone a book. I hated this as I love to read.

Looking back, I did some pretty ridiculous things. In hospital I hid coins in my bra to fake weight gain. Which was fine until I got put on 24 hour watch and so I was stuck wearing this bra full of coins, even in bed,  for fear of being discovered when I took it off! I confessed eventually and the bra was removed Embarassed. I also had a phase of hiding food in my socks to dispose of later. Messy.

Thanks again!

My thyroid is fine. My Dr. expected my hormone levels to be low as I'm underweight (bmi 15.9).

Thanks!

I used one of those big machines where you place your hands on two handles and it gives a reading.

I haven't had a period in many years. I had my hormones tested recently and they were very low, due to the low body fat I guess.

Thanks, I am well versed on BMI though. It is body fat % which I was struggling difficult to find a consistent recommended range for.

I think I will see how it goes, keep things very casual and make it clear I'm not ready to jump into anything serious.

In many ways I am a lot older than my 26 years  but when it comes to relationships, I'm not confident or comfortable. He has a hell of a lot more experience than I do.

Anyway, I shall remain open minded but cautious. Thanks for all the comments btw :)

Foods Food Phases...anyone else? Mar 23 2009

Absolutely, I've been having food phases since childhood! Mine last a lot longer than a few weeks though, aften years!

My current obsessions include porridge, broccoli (especially cooked in the microwave until slightly charred), Solero ice lollies, vanilla yogurt, carrot & corriander soup, and raw green beans.

Past phases have included dry bran flakes, the sweet Ryvita with the currants in (had to kick that one as I was having severe digestive problems as I was eating so many!), Galaxy Minstrels...I could go on and on.

When I like something I can eat it a million times and never get bored.
