Just a few thoughts/suggestions about what to put on popcorn. I sometimes just melt a very small amount of butter just about 1 tablespoon just for flavor, then you are not getting too much, just to slightly flavor the popcorn. A tiny bit of honey can be drizzled when popcorn is hot, and some chopped unsalted nuts of almost any type that you like, almonds, pecans or walnuts. You can kindof make your own popcorn concoction. I also think what might go well into this mixture is some plain roasted quaker oats, roasted until they smell real nutty. Then use the butter and honey to help them to stick to the popcorn. If you use a small amount of both butter and honey it will be healthier and you could eat more of it. Note: I have not tried this EXACT concoction, but have been thinking about it! |

Also remember that McDonald's ice cream cones are low-fat, around 150 calories, so that is a nice low fat option as a treat :) I try to keep extra fruit around the house for sweet tooth moments. Graham crackers aren't very caloric either! Good luck everyone! |

You could be retaining water, if you have had too much salt lately. The word is to drink alot of water that helps the body release the water that it is holding on to. If you don't get enough water the body holds onto it. Should only take a few days to correct if it is just water. There again depends on how quickly your body releases it. Lots of water everyday is the best thing. 8 full glasses sipping on it all day long, not really guzzling it, but more like sipping it. I hope that helps you. |

I really think that alot of things go into whether you can cheat on the weekends or not. When I was in my 30's I could do that and it never knocked my diet off stride. But now, well into my 50's I cannot do that, and it takes me just about all of the next week to get back on track. So, I don't think this answer is going to be so clear cut for everyone. There are several different things to factor in like metabolism, age, time of the month, activity levels, disabilities, & water retention due to salt overloads, etc. |

I would like to make a suggestion and that is to get into counseling to help yourself get the tools you will need to leave him and to help you through this experience. Counseling can really be of help for you. I am speaking from experience. Counseling helped me take the necessary steps to leave like, getting the mindset, getting the job to be independant, beginning to think more about myself than pleasing or not pleasing him. I cannot say enough about counseling. Make sure that you like your counselor because that is important to. Just remember it sounds like you are in a "toxic" relationship. This man is not going to magically change. We are raised to believe in fairytales, but thats all those are, its not real life. Right now, the way this man is - is the way he is, there is no magic change coming. Sorry to say. I had to accept this too. If you are with a guy and you are compatible, have chemistry and get along really great, than you know its right, if there is too much doubt and feelings that you are not in a good relationship, follow your instincts. Don't deny yourself the good life that you so rightly deserve. Work on you and try to leave him. You have seen the "real him" and it sounds like it is not what you are looking for. Do not deny what is right in front of your face. Sorry to be so blunt but its true. I wish you much luck. Always remember that you matter and you deserve to be happy and to be treated nicely and with respect. There is a man out there that is just right for you and you will know that when the time comes. All I can say is been there done that and the day that I moved on was one of the happiest days of my whole life! Good luck hon! You can do this! |

I could have sworn that someone replied to the number of steps in miles??? But it doesn't seem to be here. All I know is that it takes me anywhere from 10 to 14 minutes to walk a mile and I am sort of a slow walker because of back issues, sorry I cannot help you more. You could google your question. Sorry! |

I am thinking the same thing, that you aren't eating enough. For you to exercise more than 2 hours everyday, you need to have food in your system for fuel. How you figure out how much to eat and still lose...take your current weight which is 240 x 16 (for active) equals = 3840 (calories per day to maintain), then minus 500 = 3340, and that is the amount of calories that you should be consuming to have a weight loss of about about a lb per week. I know it sounds like alot but this is how it is calculated. Then as you lose your weight you re-figure it out periodically and you will find that your amount of calories that your body needs will be going down as you lose weight, as you don't need as many calories to power a lighter body. Make sense? Its not healthy to eat like a bird and work out so intensely. I hope this has helped you! Good luck with your weight loss! |

Does anyone have any experiences with extra virgin organic coconut oil? I love the stuff myself. I put 1-1/2 tablespoons into my yogurt every morning. It really keeps my energy up and my skin feels so soft. It works behind the scenes and I feel it is very nourishing. I even use it on my skin in place of moisturizer. I wouldn't be without it. The brands that I prefer are Emerald Labs (GNC) & NSI (Vitacost.com), tropical traditions is probably excellent but pricey. Great stuff! |

Wow, that is so KEY! Finding what works for YOU and finding what satisfies YOUR appetite. It takes some experimenting and some playing with different foods and ideas, but one can get really creative when doing this. Everyone is so very different in what tastes good to them and what works for them, with weight loss. What works for one may very well not work for the next. So, I agree, try not to stress because something WILL work for you, sooner or later. I love to read all of the creative ideas though because you just might find one that works great for YOU! I might move the Friday pizza night to a "going out to dinner night". I tend to behave better when I go out, because right away when my food comes I ask for a box and put half of the dinner right in there and don't touch that half. That is a plus because I create 2 meals for the price of one. Use the other half for next day's lunch or dinner. But I am not talking about a sloppy cheeseburger with fries either, a sensible dinner! |

I am loving this thread. Let me tell you why! I believe in cheat days. Now, in my 50's that is NOT working! We have a Friday night pizza night and I thought I could do it, WRONG! I cheat all weekend after that. So, I am in a dilemna too, I think I should do away with pizza night until I reach my goal. It has set me back too much. I really need to figure this out. My weight loss is at 26 Lbs and the calorie restrictions are more now. I have NO wiggle room, or very little if any. I'm having a hard time and thinking of doing away with pizza night. I might find a way to cheat 1 time with one of those low cal (150 calorie) soft ice cream cones from Mcdonalds once a week. I have to be strict because the scale is going up now, not down :( That little graph under weight, well the line runs up not down, oh brother! |

Also for those without health insurance, you might try to go through your county mental health services, because they may have programs for counseling & medications that you qualify for. |

I cannot see why anyone with such bad anxiety would choose not to see a doctor. Many years ago I suffered very debilitating anxiety and panic attacks. I had alot of trouble holding down a job. I didn't want the same old valium pills because they made me so forgetful, that I couldn't remember what I had for dinner the night before. Valium doesn't do the job good enough if you ask me. What worked for me was Lorazepam (Ativan) It took my anxiety completely away! One pill lasted like 12 hours or all day, I didn't even have to worry about it they were gone. Also I could concentrate and focus on tasks like never before because the anxiety was gone. And I didn't feel all drugged up either. Therefore I stayed on that med for many years and am still on it. I have lowered my dose with the help of my doctor to a very small dose everyday and plan to go off of them after probably 20 years of being on them. I have no major damage from being on them for so long and they relieved all of my anxiety symptoms. So, please get the help you need, there is no reason to suffer like you are doing. Medication is not always a bad idea, you have to think of your quality of life. Also consider how you are eating and how much sugar is in your diet, because sugar is not a good thing for people with anxiety issues. Good luck to you! |

Thanks for the info kajikit! Yeah, soups are heavy with salt. I try not to eat soup much because of that, but I do love it! I really appreciate all of the information on dieting because I add it to the knowledge that I already have and it makes dieting a bit easier, the more you know. Thanks everyone! |

Sounds great auralay, thank you so much. Yep, sodium is a bit high just like you said. I'll take a look at some next time I go to Albertsons. We don't have a Safeway here. I'll see if I can find one or some that are lower in the sodium. But yeah they certainly are low in calories! Thanks a bunch and good luck to you! |

I never buy those lean cuisines, but might start to keep my cals a bit lower. Do you mind giving me the calorie count and sodium count on that linguine? Also how much does a typical lean quisine meal cost ? |

Hi..let me first start by saying that each person is different. We will all have different experiences and what works for one might not be exactly what works for another. For example when I was in my 30's I did a "change of lifestyle" eating diet to drop some weight. I didn't count calories but did other things like eat alot healthier (salads) and dropped 20 to 30 lbs. Doing that now in my 50's might not work quite as well, as my metabolism has slowed some. I am struggling some right now, myself. I am counting calories and finding it a bit restrictive and I am not fullfilled. So I am changing up what I am doing to a "healthier change" and going to include walking everyday just as soon as I can push myself out the door to do my first walk in a while. I guess the advice that I can give you is if what you are doing is not working for you, change it up some. Make some adjustments so that you can see some progress. Also be sure to measure yourself because you might be losing inches and not lbs., especially if you are doing alot of exercise. Weight yourself every morning and keep a log. Also if you are keeping a food log, I find that very helpful to see everything that I am eating and having a general idea of calorie intake for the day. Good luck to you and I hope you get to your goal. I hope that it gets easier for you. |

| Foods | Too much yogurt? | Mar 12 2009 20:06 (UTC) |

I agree with gi-jane that you need a good balance. But in defense of yogurt which I only have for breakfast, this subject is right up my alley! I used to get lowfat plain yogurt but now to cut calories I get nonfat, can't really even taste the difference. I get the big 32 oz tubs, so that I can have it everyday for breakfast. I doctor my yogurt up with frozen or fresh fruit like blueberries 1/4 c, blackberries 1/4c, banana if you have, almost any type of fruit that you like will work, even oranges taste good. Then I add organic honey or actually any type of honey that you personally like. That is my breakfast every morning and I love it! It can taste however you want it to taste because you are mixing it yourself. But at least you will have more control over ingredients and sweeteners. You might want to google stevia, it is another relatively new sweetener that is getting pretty good reviews. But otherwise honey and fruit is GREAT in plain, lowfat or nonfat yogurt. |

Yeah I would be on the safe side about it too. I know you are probably bored and want to work out, but its much better to wait until you are feeling much better. Or maybee you could do some stretching and low impact stuff while you aren't feeling that great, until you feel better. That way at least you will feel like you are doing something, but remember keep it a slower & lighter workout since you are not 100 percent yet. |

| Weight Loss | When should I weigh in? | Mar 10 2009 22:48 (UTC) |
|
Yep I am in total agreement, 1st thing in the morning to weigh yourself. I have a digital scale and it goes screwy sometimes, meaning I can weigh myself first thing in the morning and then again in 1/2 hour and I am 1 or 2 lbs heavier. I always think its the scale doing that, its very odd. But yeah, so what I do is weigh 1st thing in the am and also weigh about 2 to 3 times, take the most consistent reading and use that. Also I put on weight during the day too, about 4 lbs. heavier than in the morning, so I think that is pretty much a normal thing. I use my morning weight as my true weight, and that isn't cheating at all if you consistently use the morning weight number. |
