| Weight Loss | Anyones lost 30-40 pounds??? | Nov 03 2009 12:37 (UTC) |

I've lost 49lbs and went from a UK size 16 to a UK 10 (I'm 5' 6"). I started at 175lbs late November 2008 and am now 126lbs as of this month, which is what I was in my late teens to mid 20's but when me and my partner moved in together we got really bad eating habits and I ballooned. I still count calories to make sure I don't overeat and I never have takeaways as that was part of my problem. |

I think using your BMI as an indication of healthy weight is a good way to go so to make sure you don't fall into what would be considered as underweight. I am 5'6" and am now 126.5 lbs which is a good weight for me, I was aiming for 126lb straight which I will probably reach in the next few days. I don't want to be any slimmer because it won't suit me and I will look too thin especially now I am older. I imagine it is quite easy to get obsessed about losing weight, especially if you have found a system that really works for you. |

It sounds like a really odd combination. Now I don't like dark chocolate or bacon so don't think I would like it but I'm sure you can have a little bit as a treat, perhaps just ration it a bit :) My partner buys me those Lindor Truffle balls which I love, but I have to hold myself back as I would gorge myself silly with them. |

I wouldn't worry about it too much, as someone already said calories are an estimate to a degree. |

If it doesn't start to go down within 7-10 days then certainly see a dermatologist about it. A lot of people have that stuff injected to get rid of nasty spots so I see no harm in trying. I used to get the odd really painful lump on my chin, with no head but found they went away on their own but took a long time. If I tried to poke at it, it got ten times worse and looked really ugly. I find Tea Tree oil very effective but use sparingly else you will burn your skin, failing that TCP, but again use very sparingly. |

I took that a few years ago and I gained about 2-3 stone. I stopped taking it and the weight didn't fall off, I had to make an effort to lose it which I have now done :) |

| Maintaining | Throwing away the old clothes? | Sep 10 2009 17:30 (UTC) |

I binned the size 16 clothes the minute they started dropping off me. I have kept my size 14 clothing even though I am now a 12 as I have some nice things which I can get away with wearing using a belt or whatever. As far as I'm concerned I have no intention of ever gaining all that weight again so I don't need my old 16s. |

| Maintaining | "You're losing too much!" and Other Charming Comments | Sep 10 2009 17:27 (UTC) |

To be honest I have had mainly positive comments about my weight loss (3 stone in total) but a couple of people have told me I was getting too thin including my Mother and a work colleague who deliberately made me feel uncomfortable. I'm not too thin, I'm 5ft 6" and 133lbs which yes is slim but certainly not skinny and I still have the odd "fat" day and wonder if I should aim for 9 stone which is what I weighed in my younger days but I don't think it would suit me so much now I'm older. I honestly think those people just got used to seeing me chubby and found it a shock to see me much slimmer. I had always been naturally very slim in my teens to early 20's (From 8 stone to 9 stone max) but got a bit too plump in the last few years of my late 20's due to sitting in front of the TV with my partner and eating too many takeaways so it gradually crept on. Well I don't touch takeaways now and watch the calories and I feel like a totally different person as I am far more confident in my own skin :) |

| Maintaining | Do you still count calories while maintaining? | Sep 10 2009 17:11 (UTC) |

I have only just started "maintaining" although I reached my CC goal about a month ago, I decided I wanted to lose another 7 lbs which I have now done. However I will always still count calories as I don't trust myself not to over eat and because I gradually gained about 3 stone over 2 years and became overweight, now having lost it all I am scared stiff of gaining it again and as I like food but don't want to slip into bad habits calorie counting and doing a food diary works a treat for me :) |

| Weight Loss | 1200 calories is the bare minimum, not the norm. | Sep 04 2009 08:12 (UTC) |

I think a lot of people forget to amend the date bit when using CC to work out how much they need to eat per day calorie wise, hence the 1200 coming up a lot. I personally would say not to go lower than 1300 during your diet else you find you get really hungry and it's bad for you. |

I did go through a period of about 3 weeks only losing a pound, instead of the 0.5-1lb per week I was losing before, when I was very near my original goal, but it quickly passed. I actually started eating a little bit more and then I started losing again :)
I have since reached my goal but decided I would like to lose a few more pounds so set a new goal and am only a pound away :) I'm sure you will reach your goal in no time :) |

I suggest making your own. I quit eating the shop bought ones and eat only the ones my partner makes. That way you can weigh all your ingredients and you know exactly what's in it. I didn't gain any weight from eating them, just kept losing so never ban all "nice" foods from your diet :) |

| Weight Loss | So I've reached my goal...... | Jul 29 2009 07:49 (UTC) |

Thank you Valor :) Oh I wouldn't say I was knowledgeable about weight loss at all. The following of a strict amount of calories per day thing really seemed to work for me, so I was lucky. I actually quite enjoy totting up my foods via a online list so have made it a permanent habit so I always know what I'm eating calorie wise :) I do have little treats here and there, but takeaways have been permanently removed from my diet as they contributed heavily to my weight gain previously. |

| Foods | Sugar sandwich - I'm prepared to be judged for this | Jul 28 2009 07:34 (UTC) |

I've never tried a sugar sandwich but I expect they are very near the same calories as a doughnut, unless it was a crispy creme doughnut as they are very high in calories. One of my work colleagues eats at least 2 doughnuts every morning for breakfast! yuk. |

Thank you! :) I started eating to a reduced calorie plan in December 2008 as I was fed up of feeling tubby, but joined on here February 2009 as keeping a hand written food diary was hassle compared to just keying it in online. I started on 1600 calories per day then dropped to 1300 after I had lost a stone (14 pounds). I have currently adjusted that to 1350 calories per day as I do want to lose a little bit more in a sensible time frame, but not anything more than another 7lbs else my clothes won't fit! I feel a lot happier about the way I look now and have dropped 2 dress sizes which is nice, but I would like to be a little bit slimmer. My work colleagues have said I look great as I am now and shouldn't expect to be the size I was when I was younger now at my age. However I would feel better a little bit thinner :) I must confess the only exercise I get is at work, which is very little, so I haven't been doing an weights or anything like that. It really is surprising how differently people treat you when you slim down a lot, especially the opposite sex. It's nice to receive lots of compliments of course and people keep asking me how I did it so I give them this website address as I honestly don't think anything else would have worked for me :) |

| Motivation | Buying clothes that are too small for you | Jul 21 2009 19:49 (UTC) |

I would buy the 14 and also the 12. That's what I've had to do with my work suits when I have been between sizes and it has cost me a small fortune but it's been really nice stuffing the old "fat" size to the back of the wardrobe and then fitting into the smaller size after losing my weight. I threw all my frumpy size 16 suits away :) |

I would suppose that if you are eating a low amount of calories then you are unlikely to be eating a high amount of fat. Personally I don't have time to add up calories as well as fat content etc, when just watching my calories works and I am according to my digital scales within a healthy percentage of body fat. |

| Weight Loss | Size 8-10.... not normal? :( | Jul 17 2009 16:08 (UTC) |

Original Post by darkylinky: Sorry but you're talking rubbish. A size 8-10 is still slim on pretty much all heights. And honestly who cares if Jennifer Love Hewitt has put on a few pounds, she's still slim and under the UK average dress size which is a size 16, all those people calling her fat are stupid and totally ignorant. |

| The Lounge | Average bra size? | Jun 28 2009 12:58 (UTC) |

Well they also say a lot of us ladies are wearing the wrong size, me included so it's probably not accurate.
Does anyone know of a good site to work out bra size? I'm really confused 'cos I always thought I was a 34B, I have quite a small upper body but all the online calculators tell me to wear a 36A, but I'm only a UK size 12 on the top and bottom so surely that can't be right as my under bust meaurement is only about 31"? |

| Health & Support | Worried? | Jun 25 2009 17:53 (UTC) |

Don't panic if you gain a pound or two at first. It will take your body a little while to adjust to the new daily calorie intake. Then you will start to notice weight loss. I too have been sticking to the 1300 calorie daily intake recommended by CC with great results and I'm an inch shorter than you and older! (I started at 175 pounds) :)
I'm fairly sure that the minimum recommended daily calorie intake for women who are trying to lose weigh is about 1225, so 1300 is not unhealthy for a person who is trying to lose weight, but then as you are still very young perhaps you should try at least 1400 to start with. |

Personally I use my digital scales which measure both weight and fat. I think fat is very tricky is measure 100% accurately but as long as my fat percentage is within the healthy range I don't worry about it :) |

| Weight Loss | Diet MEans No Sugar,chocolates,cakes ... or what?? HELP!!! | Jun 25 2009 17:44 (UTC) |

Never ban yourself from eating the foods you like, simply just cut down on the chocolate, cakes etc. I have the odd small chocolate bar here and there and I stick to the crisps with less calories in like Quavers and Wotsits and I have still lost over 2 stone in 6 months with no real exercise :) You can have nice stuff, just not huge amounts of it in one go :) I don't agree with those silly diets that ban bread or sugar or whatever. They encourage people not to eat properly. I don't think it's the end of the world if you go a little over your daily calorie allowance, but not constantly or by a huge amount. As long as you are still seeing some form of weight loss then you don't need to worry :) |

| Weight Loss | Need To Bump Up My Calorie Intake | Jun 25 2009 17:33 (UTC) |

It's terribly unhealthy to eat that little a day, not to mention your body will think you are starving it. As someone has already said you need to be eating at least 1500 a day. Try eating pasta, bread and potato based products as that has a lot of good calories in it and fills you up :) I would suggest hiding the scales and planning your daily meals in advance so you don't skip them. |

| Weight Loss | Analysis says I should only have 1200 cals per day? | Jun 14 2009 19:27 (UTC) |

Personally I would say have at least 1300 if you don't do any exercise like me. I weighed about 175 when I started near Xmas and it recommended 1600 but when I checked again after losing a good amount of weight it advised 1300 which my body has now gotten used to with careful planning of meals and I tend to lose about 1 pound a week. I only have 4 pounds left to lose now :) |

I too have used them in the past and found that when I stopped I was a little constipated for a while. It just takes a little while for your body to get back to normal, which will happen. I don't think that they actually slow down your metabolism but not eating enough can do that. |

I think you probably need to eat a lot more calories per day considering your young age and low weight. If you choose the right foods then you won't gain lots of fat. I don't think you need to do much more exercise than you have already listed. Perhaps join a gym and ask for advice on the best light type of exercise for your frame.
