There's nothing wrong with 5-10 reps. As you build more muscle on the sides you will be able to do more. |

I know a couple people for whom this is true, and it's actually just the shape of their body. If your stomach is hard, there is probably not much fat on it so it's wise not to focus on losing too much weight. The people I know who have this though, are very pretty and beautiful women so don't think that this is somehow bad. (: |

| Health & Support | Has Anyone recovered from Binge eating disorder and lost weight? How?? | Jul 19 2009 16:26 (UTC) |

I got over it. I ate a whole lot after losing a lot of weight, and gained it all back plus more, but what I've learned is that you really can't restrict yourself. I eat about 2000 calories a day, which is maintenance for me, but they are all healthy foods, and it has helped me lose the weight and get into great shape along with working out.
I think having a fitness routine really helped, because that way I'm more motivated to keep my nutrition right. |

Oranges, apples, pears and bananas are some fruits that do not need refrigeration. (:
I think it's okay to eat the same thing every day, as long as you make the meals well-balanced. I've eaten the same thing every day for a few months before, actually, and I've never been healthier than then! |

Thank god for someone who's happy to be at a healthy, normal weight. I'm glad you're focusing more on staying healthy and fit rather than being stick-thin. There's about a million threads here made by [mostly] teens who want to be underweight, but don't let it get to you. They just don't realize what they're in for. |

I think you should eat more fast-releasing carbs... add a piece of fruit like a banana to this breakfast. Perhaps while you're doing your workout, the oatmeal you've eaten is simply relesing the energy too slowly for you to keep up with it |

Having too much weight on the bar will strain your back, but I think you will feel okay after a few days. Putting ice on the spot is a good idea, and make sure to get plenty of rest. Elevate the spot if you can (put some pillows under and lay down to keep it elevated). Take some advil/tylenol if you can. (: Injuries when weight lifting are common, so remember to be careful when loading the weights. |

| Fitness | I am going to incorporate weight lifting, but I have questions. | Jul 11 2009 23:21 (UTC) |

Well you should definitely do weight lifting, like you said, but to level it out you should probably do a bit of moderate cardio, maybe 20-30 minutes a day so you won't just bulk up. If you eat less calories than you expend, you'll lose the weight you want, and become lean due to the weights, without becoming bigger.
Hope that helps |

I think it's important that people realize that even with cardio, you have to put in some effort against some kind of resistance... if you're doing it at the base level that the machine starts at, it probably won't do much for you. Also, lol at the post workout McDonald's celebration... |

Ah... keep doing the sit ups, crunches, try leg raises and reverse crunches. Stomach fat is generally more abundant so it will take a while for it to go away but you need to be persistent. Also, eat more calories. :/ |

| Health & Support | Do I look too thin?? | Jul 11 2009 20:42 (UTC) |

Original Post by personaltrainer87: When I said "fit" I didn't necessarily mean completely toned and muscular, especially since that's not all that comprises one's level of fitness. To be more fit is simply to be stronger and healthier. :/ And when I said that we all know which one is better, I wasn't talking about preference for more toned women, I meant we all know that it's healthier to be fit than to be thin and unfit. For someone trying to recover from an eating disorder, for example, it would be best to focus on things like health, strength, and yes, fitness in general, rather than thinking baout how they look and whether they are too fat or too thin. |

You're thin, but you don't look fit. I think we all know which one of those is better. |

Yes, eating what you want one day out of a week can boost your metabolism and keep it higher than it would be if you ate on a low calorie level constantly. By the way, your weight loss goal is really good. (: A lot of people here are like 5' 6" and want to get to like 110 lbs. Yeah, don't do that. |

Hmm I'm not sure how I can help but what helps me keep the cost down is to make a concise list of what I need to buy and then when I'm at the store, balance the cost and nutrition as much as I can... I gotta tell you though, $10 for a box of strawberries is so much. ): I sympathize with you. |

| Fitness | Is it good to take a day or two off a week from exercise routine? | Jul 08 2009 14:27 (UTC) |

You need to focus on weights and not so much on the running if you're trying to gain. Work upped body one day and then lower body the next, each for about 20-30 minutes and alternate those days to give your muscles rest. Take one day off every week completely. |

Great decision on eating less processed foods! (: You can still buy cereal (some organic ones are minimally-processed, I like Nature's Path a lot - not much sugar, just whole grains!). I tend to stay away from processed foods too much, and usually my shopping list looks something like: Fruits Milk Chicken breasts |

| Weight Loss | I'm ate 900 calories yesterday when I normally eat 400, and I gained .5 pounds....? | Jul 05 2009 16:57 (UTC) |

you can argue for eating 400-500 calories as much as you want but I think you know you won't be able to keep it up in the long run, and that it's absolutely unhealthy for you. if you want a healthy body and healthy metabolism, you're gonna have to eat at least 1200 and you know it. yes there will be temporary gain but it should level out and you will ultimately lose, and become healthier, rather than malnourished. |

needless to say, your goal weights, for either one of you, are considered underweight. having been there myself (I'm the same height), the only thing I can tell you guys is... have fun losing your period. ;] you're better off just focusing on healthy heating and doing strength training to tone up. |

Original Post by spirochete: same thing. to the OP: you don't always have to do crunches, there're plenty of other ab exercises that you can do. check out sites like women's health mag. I've found that planks don't help me much... they cramp me up and that's it, but with no result. |
